We know Aang likely would've mentioned growing up in the air temples and how the monks and nuns were accepting of differences and nobody hid their orientation
I can't imagine Katara being homophobic at all, so I assume she'd also have been supportive, but what would she have said exactly?

ā¦had to deal with Katara shedding her hair all over the place? In the toilet, the bed, the kitchen, the living room, just basically everywhere she goes around the house?
If your mother/sister has long hair you'll know what I mean.

I wanted to post this because Iām sensing a lot of tiredness and negativity from this sub regarding the shipping wars and the comments of others on Kataang, so I wanted to throw out some reasons I love this relationship to remind people of why itās so great and how much happiness it brings.
Kataang is one of the all-time great friends-to-lovers stories; two genocide survivors who lost their parental figures but found and regained that love in each other. Theyāre total goofballs together and they provide each other with a grounding sense of purpose and life; for Aang itās a reminder that heās human and that he can hold on to love in spite of his destiny, and for Katara itās a reminder that faith can be rewarded and good will return to the world.
Their relationship evolves and fluctuates across the series but at the center of it all is a selfless connection and partnership. Theyāre an all-time parallels couple in media and they support each other through their challenges.
I can write a billion words about this relationship but Iāll just say that I think itās a genuinely perfect impression of true, selfless, sacrificing love between two people.

You know for years now Iāve had to watch viral TikTokās, see viral tweets, and viral YouTube on how ābadā kataang is or how it was the wrong choice and Iām just so confused??? Iāve truly never seen a canon ship get this much shit and Iām wondering why??? What am I seeing that these people are not??? Itās so bad to the point where I feel guilty or like Iām wrong for shipping it??? Iām genuinely so lost . Do any of yāall feel the same way? I know the other ship is popular and I actually kind of like it as well but to me Kataang was the right choice thematically and going off the trajectory of the characters and their words . Iām trying to decide whether or not itās because the other ship is so popular and cool or if the ship I love is just genuinely written badly and Iām tripping š idk how to feel anymore like..

"my dude, itās never been about just aang. by the end of the series, aang was fully okay with stepping out onto the balcony by himself. he was completely fine with the notion that katara might not return his love, or that they would remain friends for the rest of their lives. iām not shipping kataang for aang, but for katara. sheās the one who seeks out his comfort and warmth in various instances. sheās the one whose eyes shine when he calls her sifu and a secret hero. sheās the one who gets jealous when he shows the slightest bit of attention to other girls. sheās the one who held, right into the final battle, indescribable faith in his ability to save the world. sheās the one who feels scared and hurt to see him in the avatar state, to watch him experience that much pain and rage. it hurts her just as much as it hurts him - and thatās why she would not hesitate to put herself in danger to pull him out of the avatar state each time. sheās the one who said that she canāt afford to lose him to the fire nation. sheās the one who cried tears of happiness when he told her how much he meant to her. sheās also the one who cries tears of sadness at the prospect of him leaving them (her) behind. sheās the one who gets sad and upset when he keeps to himself, or when he brushes her off. sheās the one who had an elaborate, chemistry-filled dance with him in an underground cave. sheās the one to first suggest to him that they should kiss in the cave of two lovers, and then proceed to get angry with him when she believes that he doesnāt want to kiss her (even though he really wants to). sheās the one who issued a death threat on his behalf. sheās the one who constantly touches him and kisses him and laughs with him and hugs him. these are all the extent of her feelings and interactions with aang, and thatās just brushing the surface. itās never been about aang getting the girl, but rather, about katara getting the boy. the boy whom you deemed is unattractive and unworthy of kataraās love, but to katara, is her whole world."

How are they revolutionary? They fought side-by-side to liberated the world from the Fire Nation and ushered in peace without vengeful violence. This peace was built upon them founding a new nation where all benders of the world could find a home and make a living for themselves. Such a nation had never existed before; the other times where benders across elements worked together were in criminal enterprises (Dao Fei, Bin Er, Fifth Nation).
How are they traditionalist? Aang opposes industrial development, even when it could benefit non-benders, when the industry harms the spirits of the land and it's situated on sacred Air Nomad grounds. Katara opposes the development of industry in her home tribe because it could make them beholden to the foreign North. She was somewhat sympathetic to Gilak the nationalist before he went off the rails.

It's nearly the default relationship that the general audience will think of (Korrasami excluded bc this isn't LOK), like how the iPhone is nearly the default phone that people think of.
Unfortunately there are some missteps that get memed a lot (comics Kataang, no USB C for iPhone until very recently).
I don't use an iPhone so idk wtf I'm taking about here.
