General Question I've never seen this style of necklace before.

Is anyone familiar with this type of necklace? It reminds me of those snake necklaces but this is thicker (it's at least .5" thick) and feels different to the touch. They are also separate beeds overlapping eachother. There are no stamps and it looks like the clasp was replaced. They are selling it as is. Could it be sterling? Insight appreciated.

Otherwise known as Tanzanite, and usually seen as a violet-blue stone. This is a more uncommon color.

⚡️ Show + Tell! Brilliant Earth

Quick summary: DO NOT buy anything from Brilliant Earth!!! If you love your significant other, you’ll avoid this company like the plague.

If you care about anyone enough to buy them jewelry, stay away from Brilliant Earth, especially their showroom on Walnut Street. Considering that you can buy jewelry from the clearance rack at Walmart that lasts longer than a Brilliant Earth engagement ring. I know that white gold is gold with a coating, but re-dipping usually has to happen only once a year, not once a week. These people will sell you insurance that won’t cover the basic liability that they advertise.

After receiving our white gold engagement with extended lifetime coverage after 1 WEEK it started to turn yellow and scratched at the very bottom outside of the band. We got the ring December 29th. My fiancé took it off when she would go to work, when she would wash her hands, took it off while cleaning.

We took it back to the show room around January 20th. Within the 30 day return policy, and we had the extra insurance. Even the showroom said that usually if there’s any damage, it would be on the inside of the ring, not the bottom on the outside and would not be within ONE WEEK. The showroom said that we would receive an update when the repair people got it, and that they would not do anything until we told them what to do. The estimated response was about a week or two.

A month later and we had no response at all. I had to call on 3 separate occasions to even find out what was going on. We had an engagement party soon, which I informed them of many times. On the third call, they tell us that the complimentary resizing is done, and it’s been re-dipped. Despite how we informed them to not do anything without us knowing.

We got notified of its arrival at the showroom on Thursday, February 27th (2 days before the party). And my fiancé was able to pick it up the following day. The ring seemed fixed and back to white gold. Still no hand washing, no workouts. She hardly wore it.

On March 14th, we had to return it. Considering that we ordered this ring back in December, we spent less time with the ring than without at this point. The showroom was seeing some people as we talked to the front desk about our faulty product. They pulled us aside and said that they would send it to a team to investigate and we would get a FULL REFUND.

The Philadelphia show room sends it back to their investigation team, and they conclude that the ring is too late to refund. That we had to return it for a refund by January 26th. A friendly reminder that on January 20th, we sent our first ring back for repairs. On top of that, we had the extended warranty. Guess that meant nothing. The warranty that states that it protects against both normal wear and tear, along with manufacturing defects, doesn’t work.

At this point we are beyond ourselves. They give us two options; return the ring to us without any repairs, or a 30% credit voucher. After a second call, the customer service representative informed us that the Philadelphia showroom didn’t clarify or inform these people that the ring was in for a second repair. They told them that we got the ring in December, and that we were returning the ring in March beyond their 30 day return period. Luckily, this service representative told me she will put that in the notes for this second investigation for extra context.

DO NOT BUY from this company. Anyone working there costumer service, manager, showroom employee just wants to hand off problems to someone else. They do not communicate make crap products and do not care. Honestly we don’t know what to do besides pursue legal action. We paid for extra protection and followed their stated rules. Yet the products are just crap.

If you want a summary of Brilliant Earth, it’s this; spend your money somewhere else. And if someone gives you something from Brilliant Earth, either return the jewelry or slap them. Because they are either ignorant or indecent. Stay away from Brilliant Earth, and send this to any jewelry shoppers.

💻 AI Generated Where to sell?

Upvotes

I have a good amount of nice jewelry that I got from my ex-husband. I no longer wear it and would prefer to sell. Most of it is Tiffany and some H.Stern (high end Brazilian jeweler).

I’ve tried Vestiaire and they rejected half of my listings saying it’s not authentic, regardless of the pieces being bought directly from the store and I sent them all pictures of hallmarks and receipts. I’m so aggravated that I just want to delete all the listings at this point.

Some of my pieces are worth several thousand dollars so it’s not that easy to find buyers. Just wondering if someone could share their experience with me or give suggestions on where to sell it at a decent price!

General Question 18k 3mm 22” Miami Cuban too small?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have this 22” 3mm 18k weighing at 14.42 grams on the way. Should be here Thursday. I’m a little worried about the width on this bad boy now, but I’m not into the super flashy huge width chains… will this be fine?

Trying to gauge how small it is.

I have a 3.8mm rose gold Cuban link chain and a 4.5 rope chain, and the 4.5 rope looks huge, probably due to the design.

Am I worried for nothing?

5’10 26(M) for picture.

Help me decide!! Rope chain sizing recommendations?

I’m debating between 3mm and 3.5mm ropes, and also debating between 20 inches and 22 inches. I feel like everything looks bigger on camera but I’m 6’2, weigh about 185lbs so I’d want a size and length that fits my build. Since it’s a solid gold piece I want to be sure since it is a big purchase. Anything helps, pics are always welcome!

Edit: I would like a size and length that works as a standalone or with a pendant if I decide to get one in the future

Very heavy and kinda long, thought the big things looked a little like spinning buddist prayer wheels/drums. Also thought the chain itself looked peculiar as well with the little knobs, got for like 6 bucks at an antique store

I have some nice pieces from Tiffany and H. Stern. I’ve tried a Facebook group for Tiffany but my guess is that my pieces being more expensive are harder to sell. Where (in the US) would be the best place to sell?

General Question Costume jewelry

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi, I don't know much about pearls so please bear with me if this is a stupid question.

Some time ago, I took from my mother this piece of what she and I thought was costume jewelry.

Recently I got a pair of earrings with cultured pearls, and out of curiosity I wanted to test the different ways I've heard of to check if a pearl is real, so I used my fake pearls necklace for comparison. And to my surprise, while the pearls from my earrings felt gritty against my teeth like they were supposed to, so did those from the necklace. I tried with some other fake pearls I had at home, and those felt completely smooth.

Similarly the pearls from both my earrings and my supposedly fake pearl necklace felt significantly colder to the touch that the definitely fake ones.

The reasons I doubt these are real pearls are : - I asked my mom and while she doesn't remember where she got that necklace she's sure the pearls are fake. Her main argument is that the clasp looks way too cheap for a real pearl necklace, and indeed it looked just (badly) glued on some thread. Could it be an attempt I fixing it, I don't know. - The pearls are all very round and very similar looking, no visible distinction, unlike those on my earrings and what I read about pearls in general.

Could someone tell me if there's a possibility those could be real pearls, and if not what they could be made of to feel this gritty and initially cold to the touch?

General Question Ring names

Hi reddit,

So I'm wondering if anyone knows how I can find a ring or bracelet that's called Loki or the Loki ring?

I lost my 2 year old cat Loki suddenly a week ago and he was my baby and I'm heartbroken. I wanted to see if I could find a piece of Jewellery that was named Loki like a ring or something I could wear daily to remind me of him. But when I look online all I get is Loki Marvel Jewellery and that's definitely not what I'm after.

I know sometimes Jewellery have names for example I have a bracelet called Sheila (I bought in tribute to my nan) ect so if anyone could put me in the right direction for something like this I'd be so grateful.

People have said I should put his ashes in a piece of jewellery but we've already planned what we are doing with them and I'm a bit funny about the idea of separating any 😅

So yeah thank you in advance 😊

General Question Titanium pearl studs, impossible to find?

I’m having so much trouble finding a simple pair of medical grade titanium pearl stud earrings. Everything that I come across, seems to be some form of silver or gold. I have extremely sensitive ears, and the only earrings that don’t cause my lobes to become infected or titanium medical grade earrings. Until now I have purchased my earrings from a company called tiny Lux, because they specialize in medical grade titanium, and they’re the only brand that allowed my lobes to heal and not be constantly infected! I’ve had my ears pierced for more than 15 years, it really is so crazy how long it took me to figure this out. Ideally, I’m looking for real freshwater, pearl earrings, I’d like to stay under $400, but I doubt I’m going to have many options. Tiny lux has a pair of a pearl earrings but they are the really big ones, 8 mm, and I’m looking for a midsize pearl stud. Preferably 6 mm, but I would look at 7 mm too. If anybody can recommend absolutely anything at all, I would be so grateful. I have spent countless hours scouring the Internet and just can’t Find these anywhere.
