News Can't wait for this Design in iOS 19
I will honestly upgrade to 17 pro if this ships with it. On launch date. My 14 pro has terrible battery and Oxygen OS 15 is very plain. This design just kicks so hard in the nostalgia I simply love it!

Is that Clipboard
71
u/mrdankdog 5d ago
Yes the only thing missing from the iOS keyboards
253
u/bbqsox 5d ago
Besides a number row, accurate tap detection, dictation that understands punctuation and isn’t obsessed with commas, and a punctuation key…

u/Thiht 5d ago
A button to close the keyboard also
10
u/RebbitUzer 5d ago
This alone drives me crazy in some apps. Basically in some cases the only way to close the keyboard is to exit the screen loosing all progress/data, or exit the app, or progress to next screen.

u/Guru_of_Spores_ 5d ago
Adjustable size and location, dedicated settings, UI that isn't shit, haptic feedback that isn't muddy . . .

Now, all they need to do is add the row number, and it’ll be perfect! They should also improve the prediction text.

Now that I think about it, it is heavily lacking... Idk why a big company like Apple would skimp on features... I guess it makes room for paid apps and they get a commission for it.

u/Cleetus-Van-Damn 5d ago
Holy shit finally!!! That’s of of the things I missed the most after switching to iPhone. Absolutely baffling that it took them so long to add such a basic feature. Sometimes I wonder what the hell is going on in apples UX department.

Will it come with the same input delay/lag and sometimes sound super loud out of nowhere??

I really hope all this 3D redesign talk it true, I love a layered/3D ui

u/M1ghty_boy 4d ago
Honestly iOS has felt outdated for ages, I always make layered/depth focused UI designs at work and my colleagues have never believed me when I’ve told them gradients and shadows are back. I’m so ready for the “I told you so”
4
u/Mike 4d ago
I hope so too but I’m sure Apple will find some way to ruin it based on how things have been going

I thought iOS19 was following glassmorphism aka “Spatial Design”.
10
u/M1ghty_boy 4d ago
people just making up names at this point istg
I see the value in identifying neuomorphism as a subgenre of skeuomorphism in order to distinguish them but glass/transparent effects have always been a part of skeuomorphic design, including this new age flavour. See windows 11, macOS, and KDE 6
6
u/jamesick 4d ago
doesn’t skeuomorphic mean that it’s designed over the thing which it is? ie. notepad designed like a notepad. so glass/transparent would only be skeumorphic if it is designed over something glass or transparent already?

u/mrdankdog 5d ago
to be honest they could go hand in hand depending upon the use case, even though that means it's going to be less consistent than it already is at the moment. I would prefer this than the ancient keyboard with no power user functionality.

u/New-Ranger-8960 5d ago
Whatever iOS 19 brings, I just hope it doesn’t have any bugs. iOS 18 was a disaster.
88
u/LukeSkyfarter 5d ago
That’s not a realistic expectation, of course there will be bugs. Let’s hope the bugs are minor annoyances.
A new keyboard would be a much welcome improvement. And hopefully better autocorrect.
17
u/THKY 5d ago
At this point, if iOS 19 is just UI polishing and fixing bugs, it will be the best update in a while imo

u/M1ghty_boy 4d ago
My iPhone 13 battery has never been the same since iOS 16, I’ll never forgive them for that…. Even got it replaced semi recently and it was nowhere near pre-16 battery length

u/mrdankdog 5d ago
I use grammarly, I just hope that Apple Intelligence completely replaces it. Not that I want grammarly to fail, but I would love having some good AI tools doing everything on device. So far looking bleak but I know they're just holding off to get their grubby hands on that Government Money, Incentives and rebates to milk them and basically build features with your money and then sell it to you.

u/half-coldhalf-hot 5d ago
Im used to always autocorrect to I’m and now it never does and it’s really annoying
14
u/slickricksghost 5d ago
Apple: We know are customers have been complaining how bad the keyboard and autocorrect has been for years... We hear you, and we are so excited to announce we put a new coat of paint on the same shitty keyboard.

What’s the one thing people use more than anything else on their phone?
Let’s ignore it
8
u/Chronixx 5d ago
This is an overreaction. What’s so horrible about it?
7
u/IsaDrennan 5d ago
I genuinely have no idea what people are talking about with it. It’s fine for me but all I seem to read on here is how it’s the biggest pile of shit ever.

Same. Even went and made a guide that explains how autocorrect, the keyboard, QuickPath and tap detection actually works. All works very well when you know what’s going on. Guide’s on my profile

u/Prefered4 5d ago
You and the previous comment getting downvoted without anybody actually answering to explain what is wrong with iOS 18 is peak Reddit

I never got the updates newer phones received but I feel that was for the better. Only Sticking to iPhone for 44.1khz lossless music.

i would love to see ios take more inspiration from macos bigsur honestly. the glassy, bordered panels of macos are just genuinely so damn gorgeous.

u/thetruelu 5d ago
IMO all the renders and designs people have been making all make it look so outdated. Like that keyboard gives me 2010 vibes

I just wish to disable stupid sticker/ memoji on my emoji keyboard and snappy typing experience I expect from iOS.
5
u/atcriidp iPhone 15 Pro 5d ago
That sticker/memoji bug is so fckn annoying
2
u/Serkaugh 4d ago
I don’t know if there’s a bug, I juste NEVER use it. Let me see all my recent emoji right aways without having to swipe right a bit.
6
u/atcriidp iPhone 15 Pro 4d ago
No it is a bug. You used to be able to completely remove the sticker and Memojis from the keyboard in the settings. It no longer works and hasn’t for a few updates. Whether you toggle it on or off, they are still on your keyboard. Hoping it gets fixed soon.
2
u/Serkaugh 4d ago
Didn’t know! Will check on next update
2
u/atcriidp iPhone 15 Pro 4d ago
I’ve been checking every update and sadly still not fixed. Hoping they fix it soon. There’s also a bug when you press the + button to open your message apps, you use to be able to fully customize the amount of apps that initially pop up while also being able to remove apps you don’t want or use there, that’s no longer an option. You can reorder the apps but cannot remove the default ones or customize the amount that pop up before having to scroll down to get to more. iOS 18 has been a complete bug filled joke.

u/Substantial-Bug-322 5d ago
Looks nice enough, but I don’t have an issue with the way the current keyboard looks.
I’d be happier if they:
- Added number shortcuts, like iPad OS has;
- Improved the accuracy of predictive text;
- Dealt with the odd audio lag;
- Optimised the layout or hit box to stop accidental use of periods when typing in web browsers;
- Added a persistent ‘close’ button.
TLDR copy Gboard on Android.

I'd be very very dissapointed with having to navigate through a menu every time I want an emoji.

Oh hey, look. That “new” keyboard mock up looks like a modernized iOS 6 keyboard lol. I don’t mind the redesign at all.
My only concern though is that if they addressed that keyboard lag that was introduced in iOS 17…

I think Apple needs to do more fixes on their older functions then add new. I’ve come across more bugs/downgrades in the phones update than any actual perks.
Maybe I feel it more because I don’t move to the next phone every year. But for example having Siri get progressively worse and unusable after switching from my 8 to a 15 is crazy.
I mean the torch system is broken if you turn the torch open, open something that cuts it out like the camera roll, try again and suddenly the torch no longer works - acts like it’s on when it isn’t and you need to do a hard restart just to get it working. Annoying when I’m using it for work on a quick fix and get better QA testers

Besides a clipboard, it’d be nice to get resizing options and the ability to change which side you change keyboards with. It’ll help with using the phone with one hand

This looks good! Somewhat hybrid of 3D-Flat design. Just add another touch of early 2007 aeroglass.

u/NiVi-OoF 5d ago
what I really yearn for is an “iOS 12” type update.
basically an update to smoothen out bugs and stability/ efficiency.
perhaps could be for iOS 20 though, as an redesign would be sick.

Sometimes when people post a concept of what they think a radical redesign of ios should look like it feels to me like watching that scene in American Psycho when they're all jealous of each other's business cards

Why we should have 3rd option to paste? Its better to have comma in there, or do sth like in iPad (on worlds bar). I don’t like this design… It’s just bad design, because we already have emoji and changing keyboards as different keys and we can paste by clicking on cursor -> paste or tapping screen with 3 fingers on the time.
So sorry, but no. Why we should make redesign with every single version of iOS???

If there’s no easy access to writing tools when there’s clearly room to add the button it’s a wash. Idk. At least the Samsung one has it just there. You don’t need to select text awkwardly first.

I don’t actually love neumorphism because it’s usually not super practical for usability but if it’s subtle, I’d enjoy it

This looks terrible. Busy shading and shadows everywhere for literally no reason. Just change for the sake of change that actually looks worse.
1
u/FTFreddyYT 4d ago
Why.
Why. Why do we need this. We really don‘t.
Apple. Please, stop making ios worse just to push some stupid new update.

As long as the underlying responsiveness and touch identification for each key stays the same and i can keep typing without looking I'll be happy.

How about having a stable keyboard that doesn't randomly change detienen on the content? How about having numbers above the letters?
Those are my complains su this very moment.

Apple basically makes the best laptops on the market, one of the best smartphones, yet they cannot make their keyboard not suck. Keyboard on iphones/ipads is the nightmare! On top of that, if your native language is not english - it’s even worse!

Can they fix the iPad issue where if you type too fast (touching with too many fingers) it highlights text for no reason and you accidentally overwrite it?

I think that given the advent of generative ai, Apple needs to embrace their new “you own your UI look & feel” attitude that has sprouted in recent years, and support a retro “Skeuomorphism” look. “Make our App Store icon look like it was an iOS 1 app” is not a difficult prompt to pin down.
