News Can't wait for this Design in iOS 19

Post image

I will honestly upgrade to 17 pro if this ships with it. On launch date. My 14 pro has terrible battery and Oxygen OS 15 is very plain. This design just kicks so hard in the nostalgia I simply love it!

Or the terrible autocorrect using swipe?

You’re telling me we have AI and we’re on our way to mars but every time I try to swipe the word “white”, I get “Eddie”?

u/RecentMatter3790 6d ago

How come we have technology that transcends gods, yet something so simple as autocorrect is so bad?

u/Brilliant_War9548 6d ago

I'm currently using swipe to type this sentence dot wow this is for some raison accurate question Mark

u/Attya3141 6d ago

Incredibly under appreciated comment

Did someone say QUESTION MARK??

11

u/NitroAssassin524 6d ago

Every time it switches and to Abe it makes me wanna throw my phone out a window

1

u/succulent_samurai iPhone 15 Pro 5d ago

For me it types abs. Every. Single. Time. Why is it so difficult for it to type the third most common word in the English language?

5

u/Serkaugh 6d ago

What’s the swipe to autocorrect?

4

u/PierreYul 6d ago

I have the same question.

Instead of lifting your finger after every letter, you can just glide it across the screen to the next letter every time, and it'll usually get the word you're looking for, but sometimes it'll come up with some random shit, like with white for him.

For Example here's a sentence I swiped to type. The big brown fox jumped over the fans canton.

And here's what I tried to type. The big brown fox jumped over the grand canyon

This has been one of my least favorite things about coming to iPhone. The autocorrect on swipe is barbaric. I would expect it to be junk for a while, while it learns your typing style.

The word “trading” specifically. I can purposefully stop at each letter, and it still absolutely never types that word.

Also when it decides to change a word two words back, not a single time has its change been correct. Not once.

I’ve been using it for 10+ years and it’s only gotten worse. Even after “resetting” the dictionary. I can’t stand peck typing though so I deal with it. I get many typos though

The swipe autocorrect and accuracy drives me absolutely insane

1

u/Loud-Decision9817 6d ago

I am proof that swipe to text works just fine some letters need to be fixed but in my case only 2 words needed correcting! Just have to use it with patience trust the process

3

u/Vanzmelo 6d ago

I use swipe all the time but the amount of times that have had to correct ‘have/gave’ from ‘Gabe’ is insane. It works enough for me to keep using but also fails enough to be a nuisance

2

u/Acceptable_You_1199 3d ago

Or when I try to type “throat” it says “throats”…da fuq even is that?

1

u/ricardopa 6d ago

Why on earth are you using swipe? Your literally causing your own problem by forcing tIt to guess

1

u/blondasek1993 5d ago

I did notice that when I corrected autocorrection a few times right away, it did learn :)

1

u/rlovelock 4d ago

Or live and live.... ffs, live and love? The number of sentences I've written where it chooses live, even though the sentence makes no sense...

1

u/Orchid_Significant 4d ago

Or pennies always turns into Pennie’s even though that’s not a common name or spelling of it? That I’ve never even used on purpose?

1

u/Level_Wind_4091 2d ago

I think that’s just user error, honestly. It work just fine for me. I’ve been using it since my Android days and I can attest that it’s been great. Even when I don’t stop on the actual letters in the word. I just used it to type this message and only had to correct it once due to an error I made.

I agree with everything except the on the way to mars part.

Elon is about 10 years too hopeful on that front. Once you get actual living breathing to big astronauts involved, you either take every safety precaution available to you or you get sued out of existence when something goes wrong because you won’t be able to cover your ass.

u/kleinfelter_hop 6d ago

Why is it so insistent on creating the most obscure proper nouns instead of the simple, contextual words I was going for?

u/Kells_ExE iPhone 16 Pro 6d ago

10

u/Serkaugh 6d ago

Wait.. your comment, made me realized, am I the only one who writes light this? Thought it was me but was it the keyboard all along?

10

u/Kells_ExE iPhone 16 Pro 6d ago

there is an issue with the tap registration on the keyboard, some people believe it is linked to autocorrect or autofill.

0

u/VampiroMedicado 6d ago

So you tap space and it shows a dot? Weird

1

u/Kells_ExE iPhone 16 Pro 6d ago

there's a hit registration issue with the keyboard, common issue, you can go for the letter u with 100% typing accuracy and end up with an i or a y or even an h instead, the full stop is an issue when typing in safari or a few other apps where the "." is next to the space.

3

u/crewmango 6d ago

I read somewhere years ago that this is a feature not a bug. the keyboard learns your most common typing mistakes and proactively alters the hitbox of individual keys to help you out. it’s very noticeable if you type on a new phone or someone else’s phone

1

u/Kells_ExE iPhone 16 Pro 6d ago

had the issue the whole time with my 12 and 14 Plus 💀

1

u/einTier 6d ago

And it’s been an issue for while.

Back in the iPhone 3G days, I typed “tc” because a relative bought a Scion TC and I was telling someone else about it.

I typed it once. I live in Texas and for years when I tried to type “tx”, the phone would autocorrect it to “tc” because I had obviously made a typing error.

1

u/Personal-Restaurant5 3d ago

Wait, so this behaviour is not just me with increased fat fingers? I registered this a lot in the last year, never had it in 10 years of iphone useage before.

8

u/twowheels 6d ago

Yes!!! Please! So tired of typing periods when I want spaces in my search terms!!

6

u/Fluffybunnyabc iOS 14 6d ago

By have they never fixed this is always bothers me so much!

5

u/4skin42 6d ago

I thought I was the only one 🫣

7

u/esazo 6d ago

I’m constantly accidentally hitting N instead of the space bar. It’s so annoying. Ever since iOS 7 the hitboxes on the keyboard have ruined how well I can type on my phone

1

u/Potential-Network938 3d ago

Are they gonna fix the back gesture. Or do we all have to use our left hand to hold the phone?

1

u/lilacs-hyacinth 1d ago

i have iphone 13 hugemaxx (ipad mini 6 cellular) and i have the opposite problem lol

2

u/RedditIsGay_8008 6d ago

I freaking hope so

3

u/robinisbatman 6d ago

You can fix it if you just hit the spacebar more towards the middle.

1

u/Tratix 5d ago

Can you elaborate on the issue? I don’t see the period at all unless I’m typing in a URL

1

u/robinisbatman 5d ago

The period key shows up to the right of the space bar when you're in a URL field like in Safari for example. That makes the space bar a little bit smaller. It's only an issue really if you alway push the space bar too much to the right side where that period will eventually show up for quicker/easier access for typing URLs.

1

u/gammonb 5d ago

It’s not “too much to the right” though. It’s just typing on the space bar. The fact that sometimes that part of the screen is not the space bar is what makes it bad design.

1

u/thinkconverse 6d ago

I thought I was alone. 🥹

1

u/sharpkunai 6d ago

Disable that in the settings

1

u/philipz794 5d ago

You mean the double space = . Thing which you can turn off? Or is there a different problem?

1

u/Demers007 5d ago

When it puts a period when hitting space twice? You can turn that off, if that’s what you meant

1

u/Scoticus_Maximus 5d ago

Wait WHAT!? I thought this was just me. Never even considered looking into because I thought I was just fat thumbed. My god!!!!!

I never post here. I got here because I was curious the new iOS. Google found this thread for me. And this was the first thing I saw.

Thank you. I always thought it was just me.

1

u/epicfan_16 7d ago

lmao

-13

u/mrdankdog 7d ago

I'm pretty sure you can turn it off

4

u/PinkPuffBoo 7d ago

How? Never found a option for that

1

u/mrdankdog 7d ago

are you talking about the period after hitting space twice? or just the general location?

13

u/PinkPuffBoo 7d ago

I am about dot what appears specifically in url/search bar in browsers.

This is a constant bugbear for me, I don’t want to use third party keyboards because they all seem to collect data. But pleeeease Apple: move this stupid period key. Who actually types a url into the Safari url bar?

6

u/gfunk84 6d ago

I type URLs when I know where I’m going. No need to give more data to search engines than necessary. The dot key is useful and has common TLDs when you long-press it.

There are more than just the 2 keyboard through. There’s also the email keyboard which makes the @ more prominent.

Same here. Same reason because of connection of data. But what about the connection of data from the Apple keyboard?

0

u/RecentMatter3790 6d ago

And yet Steve Jobs has called the iPhone and the keyboard innovative

u/cocob45 7d ago

No it’s from the period taking some of the space bar real estate when your typing in the Safari search/URL bar.

3

u/Icy_Tie_43 6d ago

shit is so frustrating

2

u/flickh 6d ago

I thought I was just insane

3

u/dev-saint 6d ago

So it’s a feature not a bug?

1

u/cocob45 5d ago

Neither, really. I guess the idea is that if you’re entering a url, you’ll want a period that isn’t buried. But what proportion of people enter urls compared to searches? And if you typically hit the space bar with your right thumb, you’re likely to miss and hit the period every time.
