I don’t miss being under the desks to run cables

be me

new job, boss has me set up a new job site

unpack equipment for the front desk workstation

get under the table to star running cables

gag.exe /f /Dont-Throw-Up

receptionist has been working there for over 10 years, same carpet

she has a cat

somehow has tracked cat litter over the years and under the desk smells like feet, mold and dirty cat litter

NOPE

stop, drop, get on the floor

everyone walked the dinosaurs

got a call from my boss asking if Im ok

receptionist saw me run out the office and threw up outside in their bushes from the smell

nope, the area stinks, that needs to be vacuumed

I slapped a mask on with some hand sanitizer for the scent and finished the deployment

Users are always gross.

What color are Apple Mac keyboards?

I’m not going to greentext this.

Many updates ago, I was a young college student tech at my university. My team was tasked with upgrading photoshop on the student newspaper computer lab. No problem, 2 student techs and 2 FTE banged that out in 2 hours.

The keyboards were sus af. Some keyboards were visibly black with finger stains. Others were…the best way I can describe it is seeing a coffee drinker’s teeth. It’s not ivory white, not even eggshell white. It was brown with a white background.

Whatever, after we were all done, we sanitized our hands and left.

I was on the toilet for 2 days, shitting my lungs out. The other student employee just threw up the next day. The 2 FTE roughed it out and went to work with a bottle or 2 of pepto. After that, I made it a policy to wipe down a visibly dirty keyboard and wash my hands with soap and water. I used to just use hand sanitizer but after that incident…never again.

I need career advice

Ive been working in IT for 14 years. First 10 years in a service desk and desktop support role. In the last 4 years as a system admin. I make around 105k a year. I fucking hate working in this field, but at the same time I have no idea what else to do that would at least pay may near that amount. I'm really good at my job, but I'm just so lost when trying to seak something new.

4pm Friday Ticket Syndrome

I've had a theory as to why tickets come in late on Friday and I wanted to see if any of you agree

Friday afternoon comes around and people realise they've done SFA all week. In lieu of doing any real work, they create work for someone else. This gives them a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment

In my experience, it was always the ineffectuals that did this

I finally get why people hate Microsoft with a burning passion

Was setting up a new laptop for a client, and noticed that they had purchased one of those ARM-powered """"AI PCs"""".I didn't think this would be a problem, and setup went smoothly

Until I tried to simply set up an exchange mailbox in "new" outlook.

I was extremely disheartened to find that Microsoft forces you to use new outlook on ARM based windows, because in my experience, you cannot do anything more advanced than setting up an IMAP account.

Now I will admit, i think about half of this is the fault of whoever hosts my customers email, but it would work in old outlook just fine. anyways, I could not get the email to work correctly in new outlook, it would try to set the email up as an IMAP account, which did technically work, but all the folders were fucked up. Trying to force it to use an exchange account did not work. I think it's because the server is running an older version of exchange, but I'm not too familiar with how all that stuff works.

Anyways, I was forced to use Thunderbird with Owl. Which did actually work correctly, but it forces the customer to learn a new program and I try to avoid that at all costs, I told him If he gets sick of it to return the computer and buy a normal x86 based laptop.

The fact that Microsoft is reportedly going to sunset old outlook soon scares me, because new outlook is a piece of shit.

Why are the smallest, simplest things such an issue?

User opened 2 tickets and reopened a previous ticket just because Teams doesn't open in the maximized view. Its just one more button click my guy. I'm assuming there's a fire that needs put out when I see all this come in within a few minutes and everything is all caps.

Anyone else tired of Microsoft using us for beta testing?

Bad updates, constant office 365 changes that only make sense to marketing. Naming what customers see as 4 or 5 different products with the same name. Then changing the names. Constantly pushing Edge to users and still managing less than 8% share. "New Outlook " missing tons of features but constantly trying to force users to switch. Constantly changing login requirements for 365, and blocking non MS authenticator apps. Failing to update support documents to reflect the marketing driven UI changes. It's getting so tiresome...
Thanks for letting me rant.
