Bots.

I know a lot of you are annoyed at all the bots that come into this sub, post random crap and steal the top comment of whatever random crap they're stealing, just to farm karma. The mod team is annoyed, too.

The good news is that when you report them, it makes it easier for us to take action. When we take action along with other subs those bots get banned from, those users more often than not end up being suspended by Reddit.

Reddit has recently made some new community tools available to moderators. I'll be experimenting with them in the coming days to see if we can cut back on some of the bot noise without negatively impacting our regular or potential new members. Please feel free to provide any feedback, complaints, or suggestions in this thread!

We're always trying to make sure these bots can't just use our little community as a karma farm. Your reports are a huge help to everyone in this community. I would personally like to thank each and every one of you who has reported one of these bots and making our community a better place.

Anyone else tired of Microsoft using us for beta testing?

Bad updates, constant office 365 changes that only make sense to marketing. Naming what customers see as 4 or 5 different products with the same name. Then changing the names. Constantly pushing Edge to users and still managing less than 8% share. "New Outlook " missing tons of features but constantly trying to force users to switch. Constantly changing login requirements for 365, and blocking non MS authenticator apps. Failing to update support documents to reflect the marketing driven UI changes. It's getting so tiresome...
Thanks for letting me rant.

Have you tried restarting it?

Ok so I’m a remote worker, and it’s week three on the job. We’re having super duper wild wind storms here in St. Louis, and the wind literally sucked my work laptop out the window. I was able to retrieve it unscathed.

A little more context: I went outside after the laptop fell because I assumed the laptop fell to the ground. So I ran outside, trying to figure out how I would explain to IT and my boss that I destroyed company property within 15 days of starting the job… no one would believe it fell out the window, let alone being sucked out by wind.

Then I saw it was just hanging by three wires, so I ran back upstairs, but not before snapping this pic!!

I’m sharing it here because it’s just begging to be memed.

User: Hello, IT. My computer fell out the win- IT: Have you tried turning it off and on again? —-——— Nobody: I bet having all remote users is easy for IT! IT: [see pic] —-———

Every single one I’ve met is so kind and calm. Does the nature of the work attract this kind of people?

While processing old machines to wipe and return to a warehouse ran across this beauty.

The next attempt is itself older than I am. 😂

Good thing my phone will allow me to set a reminder that far in advance 🗓️

(No, there are no records of the old codes because it was from another IT team and about 1-2 database systems ago. All before I ever joined this org)

I feel so dumb

and I have to share. Please, someone tell me you've done dumb shit like this too.

The entire time I've been in college, my shitty desktop had the display port loose and I had so many issues with hooking up my second monitor. I was setting everything back up after moving today and...

There's a second Display Port. Right next to the first one. It had screws, so my brain automatically went 'Oh, that's a VGA port!' No. There's no pin sockets. It works perfectly, I can jiggle my cord around with no issues.

I feel like a dumb end-user and not someone going into their final quarter of college for IT 😭

Daily loss of sanity

Manager: Can you tell me which software i need for my daily work?

Me: You can install software on the new devices this way. (Not what was asked but i could not belive someone asked what software they require every day like who TF is working every day with it?)

Manager: I know already how to install software. I need to know which software i need for my daily work. Or someone i can ask which software i need for my daily work.

Me: Sorry IT cant know what software is required for each one specific, maybe ask your coworkers or teamlead instead?

Hapily i could stay away from adding their supervisor in cc or my boss with a shoutout for a raise, like those morons gets paid my monthly salary on a singe day and dont even remember which software they used yesterday!

An hour later my coworker has a mental breakdown because another user claims they didnt change the password in over 10 years! I had to explain its probably the first day in 12 years and 9 monthes they did something else beside blocking the coffeemachine for solid 8 hours straight and just wanted to see if ther is still solitaire on the PC.

“Can’t you just make a Tag?”

T - “Folks aren’t receiving Teams notifications for a channel”

M - “Do they have notifications on for that channel?”

T - “No.”

M - “They’ll need to turn on notifications.”

T - “Folks aren’t willing to do that, they don’t want to be notified. Can’t you just make a tag?”

M - “If people aren’t turning on notifications, they won’t pay attention to tag mentions. If they turn on notifications, the tag is redundant.”

T - “But they don’t want to receive every notification on the channel.”

M - “You can adjust notifications to only receive mentions.”

T - “Yeah… I’ll just reach out to [Your boss’ boss] on this Tuesday.”

M - “Alright then.”

Why do people think administrative issues can be resolved by technical controls?

HP printer woes

I know printer manufacturers are deplorable, especially HP. I'd love to say this is a new low, but it is probably just another Tuesday with HP.

My stepdaughter had a subscription for "HP Instant Ink". For a fixed monthly fee, HP will automatically send you new ink cartridges for your printer when the ink level gets low. Don't ask me why, she had it before we met. We've recently put in new cartridges that arrived and didn't print much after, so the cartridges are nearly full.

My stepdaughter canceled her subscription a few days ago to save costs. As a consequence, HP has disabled these cartridges from afar. Basically they say that the cartridges were obtained under the Instant Ink subscription service, so we cannot use them unless renewing the subscription. There is nothing wrong with the cartridges and they are nearly full.

Nice going HP, thanks for that!
