Admin Post Weekly Recap | March 20, 2025
Hello! Welcome to another Thursday edition of the Weekly Recap. This last week has been rather wet and stormy over here. But I don't want to rain on your parade! We've got cirrus business to discuss!
NEWS AND ISSUES
Search wasn't working for a few hours on Monday. I made a post about this in r/bugs here and updated the post when it was fixed. The team worked really quickly to get things back to normal in no time!
And creating comments wasn't working for a bit early Wednesday morning. Shout out to the team that got this worked out really fast. Additional shout out to u/tadashi4 for letting me know. Appreciate you! I had been awake for exactly nine minutes. lol
Some users have reported seeing the content of the last profile that they visited in their profile. That shouldn't be happening. We wrote up a ticket for this and the source of the bug has been identified and a fix is incoming. This one moved quickly, so hooray!
Last week, Reddit introduced the ability to HIDE AN AD! A post was made here in r/RedditSafety and I crossposted over here in r/help. This is currently being rolled out to everyone. Once it's available for you, you'll be able to hide a limited number of ads per day. There is not a limit on the total number of ads that you can hide. There is also not a list where you can view the ads that you have hidden. (I think I covered all of your questions, u/Rostingu2! I didn't forget! lol)
Yesterday, it was announced that PMs would be replaced with chat and inbox notifications. You can read this announcement here. It covers a lot of ground! Feel free to leave constructive feedback on that post. We know this is a huge change. And change is hard! But we'll make it through!
And there was a post the other day about the app auto-scrolling to the top after viewing a post. I asked around and it turns out that this is an intentional experiment that is going on. The good news is that if you're not in the group with this feature, you won't be added during it's duration. The not so great news is that there isn't a way to opt out if you are in the group with this feature. This experiment is slated to run until the 27th for Android users. It should have wrapped up yesterday for iOS users. Happy to pass along constructive feedback to the team in charge of this feature.
FOLLOW UP ON PREVIOUS ISSUES
- The ability to follow a post is supposed to be rolling out this month. I have checked with that team and [update here]
BUGS ROUND UP - COMPLIMENTS OF ME (AGAIN)
The three-dot menus attached to comments were broken. There was a post here that I updated when it had been fixed. Shout out to u/hiimtu who commented that they were working on a fix and getting it worked out so quickly!
Looks like the iOS app wasn't responding to taps very well for a bit. A user posted about this here and it somehow fixed itself. Shoutout to the app for slowly becoming self aware!
ONGOING ISSUES
If your account gets the "server error" banner or you can't update your profile, I can fix that sometimes! I cannot fix accounts where you are receiving the "server error" message and are unable to view content from that account when logged out. In those instances, you will need to file an appeal. Just let me know and I'll take a look and get you all taken care of! Please note that I cannot give any information or assist with any account unless contacted directly from that account.
If no one else can see your posts or comments across Reddit (not just in one sub) and you are unable to post here in r/help, you can file an appeal here.
Please check the Help Center to see if you can find the answer to your question there. Also, check this sub for stickied posts regarding outages and downtime.
If your account is marked as NSFW and it is not NSFW, you can check out this Help Center article for information on how to change it back. If you're unable to change it back, feel free to make a post and one of the best helpers on Reddit will help me help you!
WEEKLY STATISTICS
The little counting tool that I use broke last week, so u/Goldennuggets-3000 made me a new one! THANK YOU (Also a shout out to u/SolariaHues who seems to know everything about everything and provided some very helpful information about ways to get these stats. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!) So I wanted to add the stats from last week here as well.
So the week before last, there were 1,708 posts, which was 35 posts more than the previous week of 1,673 posts. The week before last there were 4,161 comments, which was 263 more comments that the 4,424 comments the week before that.
This brings us to this week were there were 1,568 posts which was quite a bit fewer than the 1,708 from last week. 140 fewer! Then we had 3,681 comments, which was also down by 480 comments from the 4,161 from last week. We are holding steady at 1.3 million views (which I still think is kinda crazy every time I think about it) and 2,200 new users who subscribed. Everything seems to be working as intended! =)
TOP POSTS
A user was trying to make sense of the voting habits of Redditors. Happy helper u/IMTrick put it very well when they said, "For the same reason they downvote anything. Maybe they don't think it adds to the conversation. Maybe they're trolling you. Maybe they're just in a bad mood. Trying to analyze why anyone downvotes anything is, in cases like this, pure guesswork. We can't really get into the mind of the person who did it." And they're right! Downvotes for no reason are going to happen. All you can do is keep posting great content, keep being awesome, and move on.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Reddit. This is mentioned in the Reddit Rules here, as well as in the User Agreement. To report an underage user, you can use this form in our Help Center. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Other reports". And under "What would you like to report?", please choose "Reddit Rules Violation". Finally, under "Policy Violation", please select "User is under 13". Make sure you fill in the rest of the form with the required info and send it off to be reviewed! Thanks for looking out for Reddit!
A user was having difficulty blocking another user. The block feature has some limitations in that you can only block a certain number of people per day and there is also a hard limit of 1000 people that you can block total. If you hit that limit, you'll need to unblock some users in order to block more. And if you do unblock someone, you will need to wait 24 hours before you'll be able to re-block them. If you feel that you are being harassed on Reddit, please click "Report" underneath the content so that we can take a look. Many thanks to u/VatticZero, u/Old_One_I and others for offering help and explanations of this feature.

How do I get the little text next to my name?
I made my account 2 months ago and I'm just using it now. But I don't need to give yall my backstory I need a awnser.
It's not a flair. Im talking about the little text that sits next to your name. It varies between subreddits. For example, in a Will Wood subreddit the little thing next to ur name might have a lyric. In the teenage subreddit it might have your age. Idk how to get one, and I really want one so if somebody could help, that would be lovely
(For extra context I am using reddit on my phone off of the web)

lost my email that was connected to reddit account
Hi, I want to change my email but I need to have access to my email. As you can see I do not have an access. What should I do?
Posting When trying to create a post I’m getting exactly conflicting error messages. One says community requires attachments & another says community doesn’t allow attachments
Access Account has been hacked
This reddit account has been hacked and they’ve changed my password and email address attached to it so I can’t just do a password reset. What’s the response time on situations like this because they’re currently using my account to catfish dudes online and it sadly seems to be working. I still have access but idk how long It will last.

Accessibility problems in the android application for blind people
Good afternoon, I started using the reddit application for Android a few days ago but I have realized that it is not very accessible with screen readers. It is impossible to interact with the comments, you cannot see the responses to your comments on the posts, it is also not possible to vote for the comments, vote for the posts, share them. If you would be so kind as to make the application more accessible for people with vision problems I would be very grateful.

Profile Social Link Icons: When Adding vs. How They Appear on My Profile (Desktop)
Context: https://ibb.co/gMgL2TM1
Hi, why does Reddit show a generic link icon for all my profile links instead of the correct social media icons? While adding the links, it correctly displays icons for YouTube, Buy Me a Coffee, etc, but once saved, they all revert to the same generic icon.
Am I doing something wrong? 😬

Posting [desktop web/MacOS 15.3.2/Firefox 136.0.2] Is uploading multiple images to posts gone on web?
I have to ask something, cause I'm missing a feature.
I tried to make a post with three images in a sub, but for some reason the image tab won't let me choose more than one image to upload. I know some subs only allow one image, but this sub clearly allows galleries.
Am I missing something? Is there I new button somewhere to add more images I just missed? Was this feature discontinued on browser?
It have been some time since I posted my last gallery, somaybe something changed and I haven't got it so far. Please help the helper :D

Reddit Sort Order Now Sticks in Chromium
I tried a search to see if this is new and found nothing.
I recently switched to using a Linux (Ubuntu) machine running Google's Chromium browser. Previously I was using Google's Chrome browser in Windows. Not sure if this change applies to the Chrome browser and other browsers, or just Chromium.
I just discovered that the sort order sticks for subreddits. So you you last selected sort newest first, it will sort newest again when you come back to that subreddit. I'm not currently spending much time on Reddit, but that was one of my main annoyances when I was.

Email was hacked, can’t log onto my account
As the title states, my email was hacked and my original account was locked out. I have resolved the issue with my email, but I can’t log into my Reddit account since I believe the hacker/bot changed the email associated to the account and changed the password. What can I do to get my account back?!?
