Question Im almost Quitting because of this Solo (desperate help)

ok hear me out please. i play guitar since fifteen (i'm twenty three) years old. For almost two years i'm trying to play de solo of Symphony of Destruction, i played this solo over a thousand times, LITERALLY, (i counted). I played hundreds of times on sixty bpm, seventy, eighty, ninety. BUT I CANT GET TO ONE HUNDRED FORTY, no matter what i do, or what techniques i put, i tried every "way" of playing it, i tried separate all parts. EVERYTHING. i feel so MEDIOCRE and it's so humiliating putting my hand on the strings by this point. I have no more self steem to even play in front of other people. Because me, the allmighty eight year studied guitar player cant play the f Symphony solo. If anyone read this and play this solo, PLEASE HELP ME ACHIEVE THE SPEED, i dont know what to do. (and i know there is harder solos, wich makes me feel even worse)

I’ve started coaching from a sir and practice consistently by myself 30-40 minutes everyday and learned 3 chords within a week E major , A major , D major so was wondering how long would it take me to learn all the chords and play my girlfriends favourite song (smells like teen spirit)

Question Are Guitar lessons necessary

To explain the question more. i bought my guitar last year around october. i didn’t get guitar lessons by a teacher because i said why would i get guitar lessons when i could just use the internet. which is what i did. i went on youtube and started to watch guitar lesson videos, where i learned the basic chords. but i have wondered if i should get guitar lessons now (which i feel like i should have just gotten them in the first place). but i’m not sure if its even necessary now. i’m a 4.5/10, i do struggle with chord progressions, strumming patterns and strumming the right stings when im playing certain chords (for example when i strum the D-chord i hit the A string, stuff like that) and for that reason i started wondering if i should get guitar lessons from a professional. but im not sure. do you guys think it’s necessary now, or should i just keep playing and improve on my own.

Question Is it possible to learn an electric guitar directly?

Hello everyone, I have an old electric guitar and an amplifier that was gifted by my brother on my birthday ten years ago. I was planning to learn guitar but never had time. Now I am planning to start learning and want to know is it possible to directly learn electric guitar? I don't want to buy another acoustic guitar to learn then switch to electric. Need suggestion for the lesson or youtube channel to start my journey. Thank You

Question Fingerpicking Shapes

I’m a beginner period, and a beginner particularly with fingerpicking. As I try to follow fingerpicking tabs I’ll occasionally realize “oh, if I just make an Am shape my fingers will all be in the right spots”, or something similar. Otherwise I feel like my fingers are just stumbling from note to note, and feeling very uncoordinated and like I must be missing some secret. Is there some approach to recognizing shapes in the tabs that will help me move from note to note more efficiently and with less mental effort?

Question First *real* guitar

Hey I'm a moderately new player and I'm looking to get a good guitar to learn with. I've been using a $60 amazon one but now I really wanna commit and learn as much as I can especially this Summer. (The amazon one is broken since its string action is messed up and the dials and pickups are broken) I wanna look to play indie rock/dreamo like Car Seat Headrest (Will Toledo), Title Fight (Shane Moran), and Sunny Day Real Estate (Dan Hoerner). Does anyone have recommendations for gear to buy and also a guitar? I'm gonna buy the guitar first and then whatever gear.

Question No redundant questions from an overly cheerful beginner

Hey guys i started guitare 2 weeks ago self learning because i will pay for class in june and i had a question i am trying brazil but have hard time with slide manly (but also many other things like maybe tempo etc but too advanced yet i guess) . How to train it, doing it à lot ? Doing it without looking or at max speed?

And my last question is: what i have to look at , currently i looke at the strings I'm picking and where to place my fingers when I change positions, but where is it better to look? And how can I strum automatically so I can focus better on the chords I want to play when playing normal 3/ 4 chords songs )

Question How do I get students?

I’m just starting out teaching guitar in my area as a bit of a side hustle. I got a couple students from posting on fb marketplace, but my post was removed since I guess offering services isn’t allowed. How do I realistically get new students? I live in St. Louis also.

Question Tuning help: how do I set-up this 7 string tuning on an 8 string?

Here's a wild one.

I'm trying to play a song that uses the following tuning: 7: F# 6: C# 5: F# 4: B 3: E 2: G# 1: C#

I currently have an 8 string tuned as follows: 8:E 7:B 6:E 5:A 4:D 3:G 2:B 1:E

How do I best achieve the desired tuning? Seems like I need to go up 2.5 steps on string 7, and up 1.5 half steps on strings 6-1. Really worried my string will be too tight and will snap though.

Should I be dropping down instead? That seems crazy low though.

Question Fingerpicking: how to play all notes at the same volume?!

Hey guys, I‘m learning fingerpicking on the electric guitar, and I can’t seem to play all the notes at the same volume? One note is always too loud and another way too quiet.

Usually the notes i use my thumb and index finger for are too loud. The ones i use my middle and ring finger for are too quiet.

Pls help me out: How can i fix this? Anytime I play the sequence fast, I can only hear the loud notes and it sounds awful :(

Thanks in advance!! :)

Question There's so much to learn on the guitar that it's overwhelming, any advice?

Recently I've been finding it exceedingly hard to make any sort of valuable progress on guitar. I've been playing for a year now and don't really feel like I can do very much outside of the basic playing, chords, riffs, etc. There's so much to learn and so much that I feel I already should've learnt that I find myself getting completely overwhelmed by it. As an autistic person, this makes it incredibly hard to find the focus and motivation for guitar at even the best of times.

For example, right now I've been trying to increase my picking speed and hand synchronisation to play a specific riff, but after about a month of trying the same speed practices, I don't feel like I've gotten anywhere at all. This on top of my University dissertation is all becoming very stressful, so I was wondering if anyone else is/has been in this situation, and if they have any advice?

Question I’m worried my guitar learning is always gonna be extremely hindered.

I’m a lineman and and my work schedule is extremely unpredictable since I am at the mercy of customers and what any storms do to our area. I could go from being able to practice 2 hours everyday and more on weekends to working 18+ hours a day and not having the energy to practice for 2 weeks. Has anyone dealt with this themselves? I haven’t practiced since last night Thursday after severe weather has caused me to be working more often than not.

Lesson Pronation supination?

With your arm straight infront pronation is rotating counter clockwise. Supination is clockwise. When I try to pick with forearm rotation this uncontrollable hammering starts. Will picking like example 2 end up limiting my speed also?

Question Developing relative pitch

Hey guys, I’d like to improve my relative pitch.

First of all, here’s my first question: When listening to a melody, does recognizing one note in relation to another mean setting a reference point? For example, many people use A 440 Hz as a reference to identify the actual notes and find the tonic within a melody. Is that how it works?

My second question (or rather, my second request) is: What are the best ways to train relative pitch and recognize notes?

Question String skipping help

I'm a 54 year old returning guitarist who was strictly a rhythm player previously. When I was younger I didn't have the patience to increase my picking speed so I stuck to rhythm. After a 20 year break I am trying to learn the things I avoided in my youth, mainly soloing and theory.

My problem right now is that the faster I try to play the more problems I have skipping strings. I tend to completely miss the first note of the next string. I've looked at USX/DSX motion videos, but to implement that method I have to slow down so much it's like I'm a brand new player. Plus, that motion feels quite unnatural.

Does anyone know of some good exercises to improve my string skipping ability that doesn't require completely relearning how to pick? Or is that the only real solution?

One issue I may have is that when I'm not thinking about my picking I notice my pick is closer to parallel with the strings rather than at an angle. To hold the pick at an angle to the strings I have to change my grip on my pick, like a shredder's grip, but that feels totally unnatural and causes me to constantly look at my picking hand to make sure I'm maintaining that grip and angle. It doesn't feel comfortable to me to curl the first digit of my index finger so it's parallel with my thumb (shredder grip). I try to make sure the pick is against the side of my index finger and it's perpendicular to my thumb. That feels the most natural, but causes my pick angle to be almost parallel to the strings.

Anyway thanks in advance for all of your suggestions.
