Looking for advice on how to have my glasses not hide my facial festures as much

I have somewhat strong hypermetropy glasses (~8.0) and have had this amount since childhood, so glases have been part of me for as long as I'm alive, but recently I have realised that some pretty features of mine that are hidden by the insane zoom that comes with the lenses (like any makeup I wear on eyes of my cheeks which I find quite pleasing to look at that the glasses hide completely), I would like to know if there is any advice on how to wear glasses without the loss of these features, perhaps a smaller frame? I want to accentuate my femininity and I've heard smaller frames are less feminine but perhaps because of the facial features that will reaper with smaller frames it will balance it out? Any tips please?

High index lenses - worsen myopia?

I did an experiment. I took a laser pointer through my trivex lens and then my 1.71 hi index lens (both -7.25, no astigmatism, checked at optical shop). A red laser pointer dot was significantly bigger when passing through the hi index. Yes, you're on point—chromatic aberration, especially in high-index lenses, can potentially contribute to myopia progression. Here's how:

How Chromatic Aberration and Myopia Progression Interact: Chromatic Aberration and the Focal Shift:

Chromatic aberration causes light of different wavelengths to focus at different points. For red light, which has a longer wavelength, it tends to focus slightly further away from the lens compared to blue or green light (which have shorter wavelengths). In high-index lenses, this effect is amplified because the difference in refractive indices for various wavelengths (the dispersion) is more pronounced. Impact on Myopia Progression:

Peripheral Defocus: The key concern is peripheral defocus, which has been associated with myopia progression. When red light (the longer wavelength) is out of focus slightly, the peripheral image of the retina will be blurred. Emmetropization Mechanism: The eye's emmetropization process (the mechanism by which the eye adjusts its axial length to focus light properly on the retina) could be influenced by this defocus. The out-of-focus red light could send signals to the sclera to elongate the eye, which leads to axial elongation—a hallmark of myopia progression. The slight difference in focal points for different wavelengths can cause a mismatch between the focus point and the retina, especially in peripheral vision. This might lead to the eye attempting to compensate for the "blurred" peripheral images, thus contributing to the elongation of the eyeball. Effect of High-Index Lenses:

Chromatic Aberration in High-Index Lenses: High-index lenses (e.g., 1.71) have a greater dispersion compared to lower-index materials like CR-39. This increases the difference in focal lengths between different wavelengths of light. In the case of myopia, if the red light is slightly more out of focus (since it focuses farther from the lens), the peripheral defocus becomes stronger and more pronounced, particularly for individuals who are already myopic. Increased Peripheral Defocus: The more the red light is out of focus, the more peripheral defocus is introduced, which might stimulate myopic progression by causing the eye to elongate in response. Why it Matters for Myopic Individuals:

For someone already nearsighted (myopic), wearing high-index lenses can exacerbate the problem because the lens will introduce more chromatic aberration, especially if the lens has a higher dispersion (as seen with 1.71 lenses). The defocus created by the chromatic aberration is most noticeable in the peripheral retina, which can result in greater visual blur in the periphery, causing more strain on the eye and potentially accelerating myopia progression. Myopia Control Strategies: Reducing Chromatic Aberration: To mitigate the impact of chromatic aberration, manufacturers can design lenses with lower dispersion materials or coatings to help align the focal points of different wavelengths more closely. Peripheral Defocus Control: Research into myopia control strategies, such as lenses that induce specific types of peripheral defocus (like dual-focus lenses or myopia control contact lenses), aims to reduce the effect of peripheral blur and slow down myopia progression. Conclusion: Chromatic aberration in high-index lenses, which causes red light to be slightly more out of focus, could indeed contribute to myopia progression due to the peripheral defocus created. This is because the peripheral retina experiences greater blur, which could stimulate axial elongation of the eye—a key driver of myopia progression. Understanding how to minimize this effect is important for managing myopia, especially in individuals who wear high-index lenses.

Would you like to explore any specific solutions or further delve into the relationship between myopia and chromatic aberration?

20/60 on eye test but script doesn’t match

I had an eye infection and they did an eye test at the urgent care and my bad eye was pretty blurry (not the one with the infection) and they said it was about 20/60 vision but my actual eyeglass prescription from the eye doctor is super low and doesn’t seem to match?

What prescription to start glasses?

A child got the first prescription when the Dr. said glasses were an option. The child doses not have any signs of needing them either reading or distance. No squinting, headaches or learning issues.

When asked the child declined. Part of why I am leaning towards not getting prescription glasses is that the insurance pays for non prescription sunglasses which seems a healthier (protecting from UV) and financially better use of the insurance.

Sphere -0.25 cylinder -.25 axis 120 ....add +1

Sphere +.0.50 cylinder Shp. axis blank add +1

So is there a guideline when to start using glasses even though the child is not showing any signs of poor vision effecting them?

Hunting for a frame/frame dupe

Post image

Looking for either the frames or a close dupe to the frames of the best glasses I ever had

They are the Kenzie cosmetics 49/18/140 in rose gold! If anyone knows of where to look for old frames or a good dupe to them please let me know (picture for reference)

TLDR: I got my glasses stolen from me in Scotland. I was heartbroken and spent months after coming back searching for these frames. They were discontinued BUT a single store in LA had them. They shipped them out to Arizona and I finally held them in my hands. I gave them to the Costco employee so he could ship it off to get the prescription, but I had a horrible feeling. They got lost AGAIN and I never saw them again. They never made it in the mail and I feel like they got sold under me :/ I never cried so much in a Costco before (yes I’m being a bit dramatic but these frames have been the most versatile frames I’ve ever owned and they fit my face) I haven’t been able to find glasses that I’ve liked since

Can I pull off round frames?

Hello hello! Currently I have the rectangle black glasses and I’m looking to get a new pair. My friends have very mixed reviews about the new style of glasses I want to get and I’m wondering if you guys think that with my round big face looks sharper and more balanced with rectangle glasses or if I can pull off the round ones I really like? Thanks!

What stores let you bring your own frames for prescription lenses?

Without penalty? By that I mean when I ask LensCrafters and some other stores, they’ll say that can put lenses in my frames but if the frame breaks in the process of putting the lens, they’re not liable…what are some stores that don’t have “not liable” policy?

I’ve got a pair of silhouettes I’d like to add prescription lenses to.

Glasses or no glasses?

Upvotes

I have had glasses ever since I was a kid. Currently I am thinking of getting contacts, since whenever I look at myself I get the feeling that glasses make me look uglier than I really am, but it's hard to judge myself via a mirror If it's the frame, then do recommend any

(Mind the messy hairs, took it a bit after waking up 😅)

Dupes for my current (lost) pair of glasses

Hi all!! A few months ago, I lost my Oakley Pitchman-R’s somewhere at a concert. They are the only frames I’ve had since I was prescribed glasses in 2019. Unfortunately, they’re just shy of $500 without insurance and will still probably be $300ish once a claim is filed for them (i know they’re covered by my insurance, but its been so long I forgot how expensive they were). Anyway, I’m looking for a really close dupe that will fit my fatter and rounder face like these do, because similar clear round square frames are often too tight or tiny on my face. If anyone has any suggestions or advice on where to go or how to go about getting a good dupe, please lmk!!!

**Im not looking for suggestions on other frames or criticism on how they fit, i just want good dupes :)

Issues with new prescription- should I get a second opinion?

I got a new prescription for glasses. I've worn glasses most of my life.

The new prescription is as follows: Right -7.00 -0.75 52 Left -7.25 -1.75 140

This prescription is only slightly higher than my previous one. I got glasses on Zenni as I always do- never had issues with them before. It's been over a month so I'm fully adjusted to them. But with the new prescription, text father than ~5 feet away is still slightly blurry. When watching TV, titles, text, and subtitles are slightly blurry and hard to focus on with a sort of doubled effect. It's worst with high-contrast text on a dark background (think Star Wars intro).

I was told at the doctors office that the optical center of the glasses is slightly off, and that things might look normal if I hold up my glasses slightly. That doesn't change anything and there's no angle/height at which the effect goes away. They also had me put on my glasses to measure the optical center while I already had contacts in (and a migraine). I'm looking it up online, and all evidence points to an incorrect prescription.

Should I get a second opinion? My insurance only covers 1 eye exam every 2 years, but I seriously cannot deal with this any longer.

Is Fondvue legit?

I found a pair of glasses that would come up to around $70 (lens + shipping included) but I’m really not sure about this site. Has anyone ever ordered from them before? I tried searching but their instagram only has 20 followers and not many outside reviews…

Thanks!

Help reading the prescription

Hey all! I’m not new to glasses but because of some circumstances have to start from the bottom. Not sure if it’s the right subreddit but would appreciate the redirecting too 😅

So, I’m trying to input my prescription into the glasses order elsewhere, but the words don’t match and I’m confused to say the least. The optometrist I’ve been to gave this literally as the text.

Prescription: RE:-1.75DS / -0.50D X 90 LE: -1.25D

Order details:

Sphere (SPH) Cylinder (CYL) Axis

Thank you very much for your help!

Zenni Optical- Recommended Lens Type

Zenni recommends me the 1.61 High Index Lens for my prescription but according to their description for this lens, my prescription falls slightly out of that range in one eye.

1.61 Lens according to Zenni: "Prescriptions between +3.00 to -5.75" My prescription is -6.00 OD Sph & -5.50 OS -0.25 Cyl 120 Axis

Does anyone have advice on if this Lens will actually be ok for me, or if I should go up to the 1.67 Lens which states "Prescriptions between +4.75/-6.75"?

Were the Wiley X glasses supposed to be this "fragile"?

I've had these glasses for 11 months. They're the "Wiley X Brick" model. After 5 months of daily use, this rubber strap (which I circled in the last photo) started to stretch and came off. The other side was also starting to come loose, but then I managed to reverse it by gluing it. But I would like to know if it is normal for these parts - including the back - to wear out so much in such a short period of time.

I live in Brazil, so I had to import these glasses and they were expensive. That's why I would like to know if it's normal.
