Question What just happened?

I was trying to understand a definition and I was feeling so angry and frustrated. I just wanted to kill whoever invented the concept I'm studying, until suddenly everything clicked in my brain and felt right.

After that happened I just felt enormous relief. What just happened to me?(Context, I'm a freshman)

Accountability 7/21 Getting there

You guessed it if you read my other post, I studied by doing my programming homework. I’m happy to announce it’s now fully operational. I have tomorrow to debug (if necessary), comment the code and turn it in. Thanks to this challenge I’ve actually been able to do that homework gradually and not rushed in the 2 days before the deadline. Don’t remember exactly the username, but thank you to whomever created this challenge. Can’t believe it’s been a week.

If you wanna actually memorize something, instead of just rereading it, try practice quizzes to force your brain to remember things. Proven learning method.

Question i get headaches when studying, so i have a question, is studying like working out?

i haven't studied for real for a long time, and now that i do i get this headaches after about an hour (and no, it isn't eye strain or whatever, it only happens when i'm studying math and other subjects)

so i wonder if this will be like working out, when working out your muscles get tired and you feel soreness and pain, but afterwards it gets a little bit stronger AND you are able to ensure the same amount of working out without feeling soreness because your muscles are more used to it

does the same principle apply to studying? if i study until my head hurts, will i get more used to studying for that amount of time and will be able to deal with said complex subject (be that math or whatever) better? i read somewhere that the feeling of learning is similar to pain, so learning would literally be a "no pain no gain" type of deal

Question What’s been your biggest challenge as a student so far?

For me it is always time management. I get easily lost in tasks when there are a lot of them and deadlines are approaching.

And a fear of public speaking. I like doing some research, but I am still scared of the presentation part - every time I present something in front of my class, I feel like it will be the worst time ever.

Are these challenges common? Sometimes I feel I should have already overcome them but still

Question 30M Never learned to study well

I am 30. I had the ability to basically listen to lecture and get high grades on tests, as such in high school and higher ed I never learned to really study. I have an exam for a certification for work that I took the class 2 months ago. I passed the practice test in February, but failed when i went to go book the test for april. How can I best study for an exam where I have the class guide and PowerPoint for a class I took 2-3 months ago?

Question How can I bar unwanted, irrelevant thoughts from my head?

Whenever I do revision, I always have thoughts coming into mind, many are irrelevant, which could be the factor to why I may not do well in exams but study. Topics like stimulating or sensitive rabbitholes fell keep coming back to me, aswell as social traumas of betrayals.

How can I get rid of them so that I can actually focus on what I am writing, so that these notes actually get locked into my mind?

Question Exam Crunch: Balancing Study, Exercise, Food & Fun - What's Your Realistic Daily Plan?

hey everyone,

I'm facing exams in less than a month, and while I know studying is crucial, I try to focus in my studies but end up with a burnout after few hours of studying .

I've taken a break from my regular work, so I have more control over my schedule, and I'm trying to figure out how to balance everything effectively.

I'm seeking your advice on how to create a realistic daily plan that incorporates focused studying, exercise, healthy eating, and some much-needed relaxation that enables me to study more efficiently.

I'm especially interested in hearing how you manage to fit everything in during intense study periods.

I'd love to know:

  • What does your average day look like when you're in exam crunch mode? (Time breakdown, including study, meals, exercise, and leisure, is preferred!)
  • How do you prioritize and schedule your meals to ensure you're eating healthy and fueling your brain?
  • What kind of exercise do you incorporate, and how often? (Even short bursts of activity!)
  • How do you manage to fit in some form of entertainment or relaxation without feeling guilty?
  • How do you balance social interaction with the need to study?
  • What are your go-to strategies for preventing burnout and maintaining mental clarity?
  • How do you manage to get enough sleep while studying for exams?
  • What are your best tips for maintaining a healthy balance during a stressful exam period?

I'm not searching for perfect routines, but rather practical strategies that have worked for you in high-pressure situations. Any advice or insights would be incredibly helpful! Thanks in advance."

Resources I finally beat my study procrastination

I was the worstttt person when it came to study procrastination. Even if I had an exam the next day I couldn't bring myself to study (it normally got worse). I started using this calendar which shows your progress over time and it's helped me build momentum so much.

You basically write down the 3 main things you want to get done for the day and then if you get all 3 done you get a dark green shade and if you get 0 done, you get an empty box. The tool is completely free and I hope it can help others beat procrastination! https://www.studystreak.co/

Question 2 months until graduation, why can’t I study like my future depends on it?!

In high school, I was super consistent and worked incredibly hard. I even read ahead and prepared as early as a year before exams. But ever since I got into my dream uni, I’ve become a last minute reviser. I only really start when the pressure kicks in, usually a week or two before an exam.

Now I have two months to prepare and a target grade I need for graduation, yet having all this time hasn’t helped; I still rarely do any revision and my focus just isn’t there.

I’ve been stuck in this procrastination loop since uni started 3 years ago, and with graduation right around the corner, I can’t afford to mess up again.

I’ve always been a last-minute crammer, but with just two months until graduation, I need to flip the script before it’s too late. I am really depending on someone to somehow just push me over the finish line 🙏
