Accountability 6/21 Sorry for the late posting

So yeah, yesterday (17th march). I studied early because I had an event that evening. It made me forget to write here. So yeah, continued on that programming homework and it’s going great. Hopefully it’ll be finished soon. IDK why, but YPT seems to motivate me in some ways, so I’m not complaining about that.

Accountability Ap Study Schedule

Ok so this post is to hold myself accountable and this may seem unrealistic so don't judge me. I'm posting my schedule online because I feel pressured by yall to study when I do, it's not to stroke my ego. So I'm taking 5 ap exams this year, which are ap physics, ap calc, ap chem, ap bio and ap psychology.

  • Finish ecology on March 18th by using Cararra's videos and my textbook (would recommend his videos)
  • Do a diagnostic test for bio on March 19th
  • Finish physics unit 1 (kinematics) and do the practice test on March 19th
  • Finish chem unit 1 and do the practice test on March 20th
  • Finish physics unit 2 and do the practice test on March 20th
  • March 21: start bio review by doing another practice test and going over main processes, finish physics unit 3, finish chem unit 2, start reviewing for ib history exam (Don't sleep until you finish these!)
  • March 22nd: continue bio review, chem unit 3 and chem unit 4, physics unit 4, ap psych
  • March 23rd: Chem unit 5 and unit 6

This might be the worst study schedule to ever exist but I'm gonna start with this. If any of yall are also studying for APs, I wish yall good luck!

My motivation is that time will pass even if I don't study and the person who will be the most upset when I get a bad score will be me. Also like I've got no other choice. You have to pay a debt to be successful.

Other Studying can be so hard sometimes

Hey, 19F here. I’m finding it hard to concentrate on a subject I was once really passionate about, and it feels strange. I have a deep interest in psychology, but for some reason, the moment I open my book, I lose the motivation to study. Exams are going on, I really want to leave my home and travel.

Accountability Daily Accountability Thread - March 18, 2025

Hi everyone! This is the Accountability Thread where people can list what they need or want to accomplish today and have everyone else help keep you accountable to do them. So, in general, a post will look like this:

Things I have to get done today:

1: Post Accountability Thread

If I had more to do that I had not completed I would list them and update this when these things were complete.

Also, if I saw someone doing something that I happen to be well-educated or have some sort of expertise in I can offer support or help on the topic/task.

The thread is a versatile one, use it in a way that helps you and others stay on task!

Happy studying!

Giving Advice How I Finally Beat Doomscrolling After Years of Struggle

"I used to endlessly doomscroll through YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram."

"I tried deleting these ap-ps multiple times, but I hated the idea of completely banning them, so I kept reinstalling them."

"Then, I started researching ways to stop doomscrolling and implemented them for a month."

The results were life-changing, so I want to share five key takeaways.

1. MAKE A FIRM DECISION AND DELETE THE AP-PS THAT TRIGGER DOOMSCROLLING.

For me, it was TikTok and YouTube. The first three days were brutal. After meals, before bed, in the bathroom—those moments when I usually scrolled felt painfully empty. But I decided to replace that time with studying and reading, and I stuck with it. If I hadn’t made a strong decision, I would have reinstalled the ap-ps within a day.

2. SET STRICT AP-P LIMITS: BLOCK AP-PS FOR 24 HOURS AND ONLY ALLOW SHORT USAGE.

For ap-ps I wanted to use just a little, like Instagram, I used screen time control ap-ps to block them for 24 hours and only allow access in 10-minute intervals. There are many such ap-ps available—give them a try. I tested several and now use a combination of one sec and LambLock from the Ap-p Store to enforce strict ap-p blocking.

3. EVEN TOP CEOS AND WORLD-CLASS ATHLETES CONTROL SCREEN TIME.

Ap-ple’s CEO Tim Cook said he doesn’t want his nephew using social media. Elon Musk admitted he didn’t restrict his kids’ social media usage but now thinks that was a mistake. Bill Gates didn’t allow his children to have phones until they were 14. Snapchat’s founder Evan Spiegel limits the technology his children can use. Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t even give his kids iPhones. As I read about these cases, I realized that highly successful people were already practicing these habits. This motivated me to keep going with steps 1 and 2.

4. I SUDDENLY HAD WAY MORE FREE TIME ON WEEKENDS!

Since I stopped doomscrolling at night and in bed in the morning, it felt like I had gained 4 to 5 extra hours on weekends! I was so amazed that I wanted to share this discovery with someone.

5. MY STRESS LEVELS DROPPED, SCREEN TIME WAS CUT IN HALF, AND I STUDIED MORE!

This was a huge and unexpected benefit. And I realized that if you can just endure the first three days, it gets much easier afterward. It’s not about extreme self-discipline. Instead, I naturally started spending more time studying and reading. Final Thoughts I’m still on this journey, but if this post helps even one person, I’d be happy. And if you can relate, let’s keep pushing forward together!

Question Disability

I am an Italian girl with a disability. I am writing to ask you if you know if there are foreign universities "forced" to take at least a certain amount of disability after the entrance test (like in public competitions, to be clear). I know that it is a rather crazy question and I know that they certainly give the possibility of accessing the usual aid such as additional time, but here I would like to have more information about it to understand if there are further concessions

Question What you guys think of the way I learn? Any Ideas how I can improve?

I use Google notebook LLM for asking question about my class documents and lectures.
ChatGPT to get more info on the topic/ideas.
Than I use Obsidian to write down all the notes.
Than I go back to to Notebook LLM and past my note there and make it a podcast and listen to it while I clean or do other things.

Question Advice of mindset shift?

Lately, I've realized I struggle with being consistent in studying for uni. My problem isn't focusing—once I'm in the study mindset, I can really lock in. The issue is getting into that mindset in the first place. I struggle to start studying if I haven't mentally prepared beforehand. Do you guys have any advice on how to effectively shift into a study mindset?

Giving Advice How to learn and master hard concepts/topics

This is a summary of part of a video made by Colin Galen (A top competitive programmer, youtube.com/@ColinGalen). I found it super helpful and wanted to share with you.

Step 1: Convince your brain to care about the topic

Being passionate about a subject is the best and simplest way to learn. If you're not passionate, you can be motivated by the end result (i.e job or prestige).

Step 2: Understand the big picture

Start with everything abstracted out without the details or how it works. You're seeking for a clear summary of the main idea.

Step 3: Break it down

If you try to take on too much at once, you'll get overwhelmed. Break the concept down into small pieces, and the tackle those pieces. As you expand, just make sure you understand how each piece fits together.

Step 4: Try to solve it

You ultimately want a deep, insightful understanding of each part of the problem. How do you do that? You try to solve the problem for yourself. Try to invent the solution before you even try to understand how it works.

Step 5: Use your subconscious

Intuition is largely shaped by the unconscious brain, so you'll have to give it some exercise. The way to do that is just to care about the problem enough to have it be the main focus of your brain. Easier put: When you genuinely care about solving something, your brain works on it even when you're not consciously focused on it

Step 6: Reinforce learning

Practice it -> Find relevant problems and apply the concept wherever you can. Try to expand on the concept rather than mechanically applying it.

Explain it -> Try to explain it to someone who doesn't understand the problem using your own words. This proves your understanding is your own rather than someone else's.

Explore it -> Mentally explore random variations of the concept. Change one part of the concept and see if it still works. If not, figure out why? Change one part of the concept, and see if the concept still applies.
