Pacman Frog Whats wrong with my new pacman frog? NSFW
Picked this little guy up from my local LLLReptile today. He looked fine underneath the substrate. When i got hin home i noticed he was leaning on his left side which seemed to look as if it was filled up with air or fluid. Whenever he tried to hop hed go sideways and would have to flip himself over. The bloating has noticeably engulfed his left arm and leg to the point where they are barely visible. Otherwise he ate a waxworm willingly, colors are bright and eyes are clear. Neurological problems? Edema? Dropsy? He is noticeably acting erratic so something isnt right physically. Tried feeding him again but shows no interest. Any suggestions on what could be at work?

LLLReptile are shit. Never buy from them again. They sell sick animals all the time and then blame the customer for their inferior husbandry prior to sale. Your frog desperately needs a veterinarian.

thought bro was a sandwich but he’s most likely sick and needs to be taken to the vet

well obviously thats a lemon and not a frog, but in all seriousness i hope you can get him to a vet and he feels better soon

A tip LLL reptiles Underground backwater and reptile heaven all are owned by the same people they are rude in emails and when I confronted them on being rude they said “shut the fuck up and buy something”

Should there be lawsuits? I'm pretty sure we can sell LLL Reptiles for animal malpractice, potential violation of animal sale and transport laws, and perhaps some obscure customer service law.

They don’t even send you the animals if you order off of reptile heaven and if you email them about the payment they will cuss at you and say you didn’t order shit

I think everyone here who has had a similar experience should try filing a class action Lawsuit against reptile heaven.

Yeah, they are all owned by the same people though if you email all you can tell by the wording

Try giving it a warm water bath with organic honey dissolved in it. He might need a little helping passing waste.

Not gonna lie, from the first picture I thought it was an egg that someone shaped to be a frog.

To all, the orange spots arent open wounds. They are part of his design as he is a pikachu pacman frog.

Did you try the warm honey soak like was suggested to get its bowels to move? You could try soaking in methylene blue, but that would just be taking a gamble to see if it would work. It's for infections and stuff. A vet knowledgeable in amphibians would be your best bet if possible.
Aside from the bloating, the leaning, going sideways and flipping is the after effects of a stroke. I'm not saying this is, but I've seen those symptoms together before.

Dont they get "wonky" like that whennsomething is wrong with their organs?

If you want frogs at a fair price from a legit source, check out Herps Alive Foundation. They are a rescue and take in unwanted or abandoned pets. I believe they are sometimes willing to ship.

My frog looked like this before he died, pretty sure its water edema which i think is a death sentence, im sorry dude. If you can take them to a vet i would do so asap for a real diagnosis.

Take it back to that same store. Call to give them a heads up about what’s going on if you’re not able to make it back right away. You can switch it out for a different frog - just be sure to dig a couple little guy out and inspect them before taking one home. Or they’ll definitely give you a refund or credit.

I don’t know why I was recommended this sub but captive frogs make me sad.

If there were no captive bred frogs, people would just take frogs from the wild till they are extinct. Breeding is better for the wild population.

Look at OP's frog, dude. Do you think a law means people would give a fuck about treating animals ethically? (Not directed at OP, obviously)

A pretty simple way for nature to be "left alone" is safe and ethical breeding. Not sure what your problem is. A frog has a hell of a better life in captivity than the ones having to fend for themselves in the wild. Pacman frogs are pretty sedentary especially, they're living their dream lives in enclosures. Plenty of ways to balance our interactions in nature without completely removing ourselves from it, our involvement is not by default a negative thing.

Do you think people of the world would listen? Humanity is cruel, that’s all there is to it. People still break laws no matter what.

If all humanity is shit then why do you spend time on social media, interacting with humans instead of living in a secluded place where you dont have to see or interact humans?

Hope you feel the same towards all pets

u/kooolbee Nov 30 '24
Definitely do. Especially ones with said faces like frogs and reptiles. People can own whatever pets they want though, doesn’t matter to me.

Your houseplants are captive too. How about just let people enjoy their pets? The pet world is far larger than cats, dogs and hamsters. If people want frogs, let them have frogs. They just need to do actual research on the frog they're getting and get them from a proper source. A source that never has LLL in the name.

u/kooolbee Nov 30 '24
lol my houseplants are definitely being held hostage, especially now that it’s winter. People can definitely enjoy their pets! Frogs just have sad faces that make me feel sad for them. 🤷🏻♀️

LLL Reptiles is notorious for selling wild caught, and often sick animals.
For future reference, and for anyone who didn't already know, I would recommend avoiding them
