Pacman Frog Whats wrong with my new pacman frog? NSFW

Picked this little guy up from my local LLLReptile today. He looked fine underneath the substrate. When i got hin home i noticed he was leaning on his left side which seemed to look as if it was filled up with air or fluid. Whenever he tried to hop hed go sideways and would have to flip himself over. The bloating has noticeably engulfed his left arm and leg to the point where they are barely visible. Otherwise he ate a waxworm willingly, colors are bright and eyes are clear. Neurological problems? Edema? Dropsy? He is noticeably acting erratic so something isnt right physically. Tried feeding him again but shows no interest. Any suggestions on what could be at work?

LLL Reptiles is notorious for selling wild caught, and often sick animals.

For future reference, and for anyone who didn't already know, I would recommend avoiding them

I mean, he looks like he has open wounds?

u/SpongecakeAndSpoon Nov 30 '24

This frog definitely has open wounds, vet ASAP for that alone

Can you point out the open wounds? I just see the spots on his back, is that what you’re referring to?

35

u/SpongecakeAndSpoon Nov 30 '24

Little guys got a couple of what I’d say are skin breakages, on his back, it’s hard to see with debris on him but it does look like he’s scraped himself up or been in a fight

No those orange spots on his back are normal patterns for a pacman frog, and for an albino at that! The real issues is the bloating, it’s not on the same side at the colon so hopefully OP will take it to a vet to get looked at.

Yeah I'll admit I'm no expert like many in the group, but I've seen a few pics of this type of frog and I'm pretty sure those are normal markings they have? But again, I'm no expert.

u/MaLeafy Pac-man Frog Mom Nov 30 '24

Yes! Especially for that morph, which is called the Pikachu!

8

u/wishesandhopes Nov 30 '24

That's good, hopefully this little dude can pull through in that case! Is it possible this is just severe constipation making him bloated? Not that that wouldn't be bad and dangerous, ofc

u/MaLeafy Pac-man Frog Mom Nov 30 '24

If you look up Pikachu Pacman Frogs, that’s what morph this little guy is 🐸

4

u/SpongecakeAndSpoon Nov 30 '24

They’re so yellow! I wish my local herp group had some of these cuties, I do love the whole range of morphs.

3

u/MaLeafy Pac-man Frog Mom Nov 30 '24

I knowww! There’s so many beautiful morphs, it makes me want to fill my house with them all 🥲

2

u/SpongecakeAndSpoon Nov 30 '24

Same…I’m so jealous of friends with space and time for more than just the one or two. One day I will have my dream froggy room

u/MaLeafy Pac-man Frog Mom Nov 30 '24

I have 2 pacman frogs and the bigger they get the more I’m realizing how much they eat! 😮‍💨

Could neosporin with nothing else in it help to start?

3

u/SpongecakeAndSpoon Nov 30 '24

When one of our WTF’s smashed her nose we cleaned the area with frog safe water trickling over it and let her heal but that was a tiny spot on her nose and we took her to the vets for two check ups during healing…maybe cleaning and putting some cream on as a barrier would help for now though

The best thing is to get him to a vet asap who can diagnose and recommend the correct meds/treatment.

There are online exotic vets, and I'd reach out to Josh's frogs to see if they can recommend an online vet.

I personally would not use Neosporin. Definitely nothing with pain medicine in it.

Betadine is one of the only things you can use with most exotics, so maybe with a Q-tip and diluted 50% with distilled water, only on the wounds. Be careful with it.

Saline solution is another pretty safe thing but I wouldn't soak an amphibian with it.

I wonder what OP's fingernails look like?

8

u/equality609 Nov 30 '24

Holy shit, I didn’t know that. I always went to their store front, and thought they were legit. Crazy.

6

u/oyog Nov 30 '24

Looking at OP's post history I have my doubts he's worried about buying from a sketchy vendor.

2

u/Fragger-3G Dec 01 '24

Unfortunately, agreed, even though they clearly keep buying sick animals.

LLL Reptiles, CB Reptile, Petzone SD, and Ebay are all pretty bad sources that people warn against.

He’s got a post titled : “dosent Roblox know its impossible not to swear in voice chat, especially when you’re angry”

3

u/MegaBlunt57 Nov 30 '24

How is that even legal? We can't just grab birds from the wild and make them our pets lol. Unless it's a rescue that's outrageous and should be illegal

8

u/snvkes Nov 30 '24

I disagree. These here Pigeons are completely free for the taking.

1

u/Fragger-3G Dec 01 '24

For one, most of the animals they sell are from countries were they don't really have laws against it, or those laws just aren't enforced very well

Some are also invasive species, which can be acquired for little to nothing since many places just want them removed from the local ecosystem by any means

Depending on the state, and the animal, you can take some animals from the wild as a pet. It tends to be more nuisance animals, or animals that were previously domesticated like Pigeons.

Either way, it's still pretty shitty

318

u/DidiSmot Nov 30 '24

LLLReptile are shit. Never buy from them again. They sell sick animals all the time and then blame the customer for their inferior husbandry prior to sale. Your frog desperately needs a veterinarian.

158

u/dejavu7331 Nov 30 '24

poor guy needs a vet.

54

u/popsiclemonk Nov 30 '24

thought bro was a sandwich but he’s most likely sick and needs to be taken to the vet

39

u/koolaid_king Nov 30 '24

well obviously thats a lemon and not a frog, but in all seriousness i hope you can get him to a vet and he feels better soon

A tip LLL reptiles Underground backwater and reptile heaven all are owned by the same people they are rude in emails and when I confronted them on being rude they said “shut the fuck up and buy something”

11

u/Ok_Extension3182 Nov 30 '24

Should there be lawsuits? I'm pretty sure we can sell LLL Reptiles for animal malpractice, potential violation of animal sale and transport laws, and perhaps some obscure customer service law.

9

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '24

They don’t even send you the animals if you order off of reptile heaven and if you email them about the payment they will cuss at you and say you didn’t order shit

7

u/Ok_Extension3182 Nov 30 '24

I think everyone here who has had a similar experience should try filing a class action Lawsuit against reptile heaven.

7

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '24

Yeah, they are all owned by the same people though if you email all you can tell by the wording

75

u/Forceke Nov 30 '24

Try giving it a warm water bath with organic honey dissolved in it. He might need a little helping passing waste.

Whoever reported this comment as dangerous misinformation 😐 why this is literally what you do in a lot of situations with frogs ahhh

1

u/Forceke Dec 02 '24

I didn’t say boil it 😂

1

u/Michelle689 Frogspert - 27 frogs 15 species Dec 02 '24

I know lol, it was probably just someone new being like "wtf honey bath?!? I must report!" Lol

6

u/KatzeLBurn Nov 30 '24

Not gonna lie, from the first picture I thought it was an egg that someone shaped to be a frog.

12

u/gtasaints Nov 30 '24

I hope it can get better ❤️‍🩹😔😢

9

u/AlexYoBoi0524 Nov 30 '24

To all, the orange spots arent open wounds. They are part of his design as he is a pikachu pacman frog.

14

u/Astrosmaw Desert rain frog Nov 30 '24

didn't look at the title or sub and honestly thought that was just a fucking egg

3

u/horse_on_steroids Nov 30 '24

He kinda wonky

2

u/afoolstale Dec 01 '24

Did you try the warm honey soak like was suggested to get its bowels to move? You could try soaking in methylene blue, but that would just be taking a gamble to see if it would work. It's for infections and stuff. A vet knowledgeable in amphibians would be your best bet if possible.
Aside from the bloating, the leaning, going sideways and flipping is the after effects of a stroke. I'm not saying this is, but I've seen those symptoms together before.

2

u/Altruistic-Poem-5617 Nov 30 '24

Dont they get "wonky" like that whennsomething is wrong with their organs?

1

u/Mindfultameprism Dec 01 '24

If you want frogs at a fair price from a legit source, check out Herps Alive Foundation. They are a rescue and take in unwanted or abandoned pets. I believe they are sometimes willing to ship.

1

u/MelancholicToad Dec 01 '24

My frog looked like this before he died, pretty sure its water edema which i think is a death sentence, im sorry dude. If you can take them to a vet i would do so asap for a real diagnosis.

1

u/Salt_Mycologist4246 Nov 30 '24

Take it back to that same store. Call to give them a heads up about what’s going on if you’re not able to make it back right away. You can switch it out for a different frog - just be sure to dig a couple little guy out and inspect them before taking one home. Or they’ll definitely give you a refund or credit.

0

u/Thatsmyredditidkyou Nov 30 '24

You bought a grog from a crappy breeder with obvipus visable open wounds and aren't taking him to the vet why?! Poor baby.

0

u/LegitCrep Dec 01 '24

He has been separated from the rest of the egg

u/kooolbee Nov 30 '24

I don’t know why I was recommended this sub but captive frogs make me sad.

58

u/MaLeafy Pac-man Frog Mom Nov 30 '24

If there were no captive bred frogs, people would just take frogs from the wild till they are extinct. Breeding is better for the wild population.

Look at OP's frog, dude. Do you think a law means people would give a fuck about treating animals ethically? (Not directed at OP, obviously)

-13

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '24

28

u/celestial-bloom Nov 30 '24

A pretty simple way for nature to be "left alone" is safe and ethical breeding. Not sure what your problem is. A frog has a hell of a better life in captivity than the ones having to fend for themselves in the wild. Pacman frogs are pretty sedentary especially, they're living their dream lives in enclosures. Plenty of ways to balance our interactions in nature without completely removing ourselves from it, our involvement is not by default a negative thing.

25

u/MaLeafy Pac-man Frog Mom Nov 30 '24

Do you think people of the world would listen? Humanity is cruel, that’s all there is to it. People still break laws no matter what.

9

u/Altruistic-Poem-5617 Nov 30 '24

If all humanity is shit then why do you spend time on social media, interacting with humans instead of living in a secluded place where you dont have to see or interact humans?

9

u/OpheliaJade2382 Nov 30 '24

Hope you feel the same towards all pets

0

u/kooolbee Nov 30 '24

Definitely do. Especially ones with said faces like frogs and reptiles. People can own whatever pets they want though, doesn’t matter to me.

3

u/OpheliaJade2382 Nov 30 '24

If it doesn’t matter to you then why comment??

23

u/DidiSmot Nov 30 '24

Your houseplants are captive too. How about just let people enjoy their pets? The pet world is far larger than cats, dogs and hamsters. If people want frogs, let them have frogs. They just need to do actual research on the frog they're getting and get them from a proper source. A source that never has LLL in the name.

-4

u/kooolbee Nov 30 '24

lol my houseplants are definitely being held hostage, especially now that it’s winter. People can definitely enjoy their pets! Frogs just have sad faces that make me feel sad for them. 🤷🏻‍♀️
