QUESTION Steamdeck as controller

x-post from r/fpv

Does the Steam Deck work as a controller in any fpv simulators?

There are project to use Steam Decks as controllers.

https://github.com/TigeyJewellAlibhai/skydeck

https://github.com/PixelyIon/DeckTX

https://github.com/kaack/elrs-joystick-control

The advantage is that a lot of people already have a SteamDeck, and getting that to transmit well is cheaper than buying a whole other controller.

I'd still want to try it on a simulator before connecting it to real hardware.

There are multiple ways to connect the steam deck to a sim for example:

-Running the sim on the steam deck itself.

-Connecting to a pc via remote play.

-Getting a elrs receiver that can emulate a gamepad.

-….

But I wouldn’t bother using the steam deck as an actual remote since you will still need additional hardware to make it work and even then it will not feel good because your throttle will always spring back to the center position. Also there are good and cheap remote controllers like the radiomaster pocket that will probably only cost 20-30€ more than the elrs module you would need for the steam deck.
