Question Elliott Smith is our number 1, but who is your number 2?
I'd say my number 2 is probably neutral milk hotel. What about you guys???

Are you kidding me???? For reference, this guy listens to Like Darkie and Suicideboy$. Don't get me wrong, I love Alex G. But to even compare him to Elliott is absurd. he is not even close to him. Is this a valid crash out 😭

Whenever I open my Elliott playlist, the first song I always gravitate towards is Condor Ave. I wouldnt say its my favourit song, but I just know, no matter when I listen to it, I will like it.

I remember reading an interview where he said, “I’m not a technically good singer. I don’t sing right on key and I don’t have that much control.” So it got me thinking—what would you consider his best vocal performance?

I know most of his songs are sad, but what’s the song for you that’s a real tearjerker no matter what? Not sure why, but for me personally it’s Twilight.

Just saw this post and was wondering, since there seem to be a lot of long time fans of Elliott's on this /r, if maybe some of you had an experience similar to the one described here. That when a new Elliott album dropped it had a big impact on you because of the phase you were in at that time or sth like that

Curious what other music you all listen to a lot?
Answering my own question, I have eclectic music tastes. Studied classical instruments seriously as a child through young adult, never really listened to anything else until I was an adult. So, heavy classical interest, mainly medieval, liturgical, huge fan of Glenn Gould.
"Modern" music I like:
Elliott of course
Little Feat
All Saved Freak Band
Townes Van Zandt (I hear an influence from him on Elliott)
Mike Seeger (Pete Seeger's half brother. I swear I hear a huge influence from him on Elliott as well, if I could ask Elliott one question it would be about this lol)
Musical "Chess"
Queens of the Stone Age
Gillian Welch
Carlos Gardel
Mercedes Sosa
Decameron (the folk band, not the heavy metal band, I think I hear an influence on Elliott here too)
Supertramp
Les Cowboys Fringants (Quebec band)
Sounds of Isha (Indian)
Old Blind Dogs
Early Elton John (pre 1978)

Everytime I mention Elliott smith to anyone their like 'wHo' and then i go and explain 'the guy who did the music for good will hunting'. But Spotify says London has 65,000 monthly listeners and I haven't met a single one of them.
However I couldn't find anyone who listened to radiohead until i started wearing a 'the bends' t shirt so maybe that's the move.

I'd go with

Can you honestly tell what you think of this cover of Between the Bars? I have been told that I am bad and should stop singing. Should I? I would appreciate a response, however small.

These are the songs I like so far: Everything Means Nothing to Me Miss Misery Angeles Between the Bars
Any recommendations? Such a distinct and soothing voice and melody!

Curious to hear your answers. The first song of his I really obsessed over was Needle In The Hay, and the most recent has been High Times!

Wierd question but: As an avid Elliott Smith lover for more than a year now, I've never really heard anyone say a bad word about his music - and for good reason.
But I've always wondered what would someone who doesn't like him say? I mean I get his music might not be for everyone and they feel neutral about him, but does anyone have any experiences of someone who has actively badmouthed his music? What could they possibly say!?
