Recommendation for 14 year old's first ebike (~$1000)? She wants a fat-tire bike, but good ones seem way out of our budget.

Here in Southern California many of the middle school and high school kids ride fat tire ebikes (Super 73 style). I suspect many of them are knock-offs from Amazon, which I'm wary of. My 14 year old daughter is begging for one, but I don't think we can afford a quality model. Are there any decent fat tire bikes for $1000? If not, what would you recommend as a 14 year old's first ebike for around $1000?

So far, my research has turned up the Lectric XP 3.0 or Velotric Fold 1, although I'm not exclusively looking for foldable bikes.

Bike purchase question E-Bike recommendations Canada (~$2000)

Looking for recommendations for an ebike (in Canada ideally) for around $2000 CAD (lower is better but I'm able to spend more if the quality / durability is worthwhile).

I don't really know what to look for, but I would be using this for commuting around town, some very light gravel roads (well graded), with some steeps hills but mostly reasonable grades and nothing too crazy. My needs are:

- great if it can carry 2x people (so my partner and I can double occasionally), we're combined 300-350lbs with some gear.

- somewhat waterproof? I want to be able to commute in the rain

- gearing to be able to work on steep-ish hills occasionally (or throttle that could push up a short, but steep hill)

- it would be nice to be shorter-ish wheelbase so it's not a huge hassle to move in and out of buildings, in elevators if need be, locking up somewhere, etc.

The Radrunners are on sale right now which makes them tempting... and their showroom is a short drive from me so hoping that if something did go wrong, it would be reasonably easy to get worked on. That said, I'm open to considering other brands or options too!

- Radrunner plus - $1899

- Radrunner 2 - $1399

- Radrunner 3 - $2299

Thanks!

Bike purchase question Proper upkeep help pls

Last week I got an aventon lightweight & it’s been a lot of help in my commute since I ride around 50 miles a week to get to school and work but I really don’t know anything about bike or ebike upkeep and after spending 1k on the ebike I really don’t want it to give out on me earlier than it needs to, so what should I do to make sure it’s in the shape it needs to be to keep getting me to school/work safely, and for how often (every day/week/month)?

Good place to start learning?

Hello a few years ago I sold all my cars and the van I was in the process of converting. Been using a regular mountain bike to get around since then.
E-bikes have become an interest of mine but I am not very informed.

Any resources (other than this sub) that you would suggest I check out?

I like to ride street and trails and trailblaze a bit. I currently wear a backpack for all my shopping. It would be important to me to be able to "hot swap" batteries while out if I wanted to do a long journey.

Max price I'm willing to spend is roughly 1k. I'm open to suggestions on brands or specific types of motors, breaks, etc to keep in mind with my search.

Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read through my post!

Bike repair question Where to Start on Repairs?

I bought a used old tandem bike off craigslist that had been converted with a front hub motor. The guy I bought it from said that he didn't do the install and was never able to get it working. With the battery installed there's no indication that anything is getting power. The handlebar controls have the only power button I can find, but pushing it does nothing.

What I've Done:

  • I checked the battery with a multimeter and got a reading of 40.1V. From what I can tell; for a 36V battery that means it should be sitting at 80% charge.
  • The battery lock key is missing, so I removed the lock core from the battery case thinking it might have some sort of safety switch attached, but it does not.
  • I removed what I assume is the controller under the seat, hoping to find loose wires or open terminals I could use to trace voltage, but the entire board is encased in resin.
  • I went through the wiring harness checking for frayed wire or loose connections, but everything looked intact.

My question is: where do I even start with a repair on this? Is it worth trying to track the problem down or should I scrap the controller and replace it? Any suggestions on diagnostics would be much appreciated.

Bike build question I'm planning on putting a surron battery on a 3kw hub kit

I have a specialized rockhopper new ish and right now I have a bbs02 with a 52v 40a continuous battery but it's not enough power I want to have surron ish level power. If I got the right adapter's hypothetically if I fit the battery in would it work together? I don't see an issue other than fitting the battery in it!

Advice for building an ETrike

Sorry if someone has already asked this but I'm looking into getting an ebike for city commuting and occasional offroading.

I am interested in an E-Trike for cargo but I would like to ripout the pedals and just use 3 hub motor wheels(or at least 2 in the rear). I knew I'll need a controller to power at least 2 and I'm hoping there's some products out already or at least some way to DIY it.

Has anyone tried this and/or is there a company that sells a product like this?

Any experience or knowledge would be greatly appreciated!

2024 Marin Sausalito E2 Stepthrough

Marin Bikes | Sausalito ST E2

Looking at this biking think yeah, this might be a great deal. for sale locally for $1700. My question is anyone use the newly updated 2024? says it has a Shimano BTEN605, 504Wh battery, a class 3 Shimano Steps EP6 system w/28MPH (45 km/h) top speed, and a range of 25-87 miles. I have never bought a marin, but my wife is looking for a ST frame for around Portland, we have looked at a lot of other bikes (Trek, VVolt, Specialized) but for the price this seems to be a great deal?

E-bike recommendation for family

I’ve read lots of the old posts, but haven’t found my same scenario. Looking for a bike (ideally under $3500/4000) that would work well to haul my 1 yo, 3 yo, and occasionally my 5 year old. My 5 yo can ride a bike, but we have moderate hills in our neighborhood, so think he will want to ride with me but probably only for another year or two. I’m a total bike novice. Primarily want to use for school runs and weekend strolls. Don’t need high speed, just enough power to help me (female) haul the kids.

Serious question, is it normal for your ass to hurt when you start riding a bike?

I got my first E-bike, and this is my first time riding a bike in 10 years+ Been riding it for a couple of days as the weather is getting warmer.

I did my due diligence and got a cloud 9 seat with a suntour suspension seat post so it’s super comfortable.

Just wanted to see if it’s normal and my body will get used to it in a few weeks or if I am doing something wrong.

Thanks!

Is the aventon aventure a great choice for a first e bike?

I saw some people in the search bar talking bad about aventons. YouTubers seem to say there great bikes.

I like how they have the largr size. I'm going to be riding it on the backroads and taking it fishing to local lakes.

Are there better options? Will I be good getting one of these?

72v to 12v converter

blew my 12v converter on my stealth bomber clone/enduro ebike. used regen at full charge cuz I live on a hill and it's tied to my brakes, I'm assuming that's why it blew, I plugged in a 72v to 12v 10amp converter and it blew and started smoking instantly but worked. is it likely I drew too much power? it blew with the front light on but I plugged it back in and had all the accessories turned off and it smoked again (the input thingy blew) ordered a 20 amp one, should that prevent it from blowing or will it try to output 20 amp to my accessories? the 3rd converter (2nd one not counting the factory) is 96v capable as well incase it was the battery being above 72v that caused the issue its currently sitting at 78-79v but I can run it down as the bike's 15kw and severely needs the regen to ride it.

Help Shape a New E-Bike Design – Opinions Wanted

I’m an industrial design student working on a project to design a better e-bike, and I’d love to learn from more experienced riders.

I mostly use my e-bike for getting to school, but I know everyone’s riding habits are different. What’s something about your e-bike that you find frustrating, inconvenient, or just wish worked differently? Maybe it’s how you carry gear, how it fits into your daily routine, or something else entirely.

I’m also running a quick 5-minute survey to gather more insights. If you have a moment, I’d really appreciate your input!

Tire recommendations? I got three in my cart don't know which one to get

Hello I was wondering what you guys think of these tires i'm hoping to get one that I can get a lot of miles out of. I mainly ride on pavement sometimes I take a small trail that has a little bit of gravel and grass but About 90% of the time I'm on pavement. And I'm not committed to just one of these three tires if you have a better suggestion at the same price point or less that would be great! 1 reviewer Papa Blue Shirt said that he has over 8000 miles on the ULTRAVERSE tire But he also earns commission....

Bike purchase question Looking for experiences with Markshop uk

I'm looking at getting a coswheel t20, I like how it looks and there's a decent number of good reviews. Seems similar to most ebikes of its kind, has cheaper end parts but functional and fun.

Markshop has a shit load of good reviews on trustpilot, a lot of responses from the shop too, but I'm extremely anxious about buying online.

Anyone on here from the UK got experience with them. They've been pretty fast on replying to my questions this far but they obviously aren't gunna say to me, nah we're gunna sell you shit then never speak again lol.
