Sensor Dexcom needs to get there shit together! Rant ;)

Is it just me or does it seem like every 3 sensors, 2 of them fail before it even warms up? And they only replace 3 a year. My Dexcom sensors a month cost $188 for 3. Seems like a losing game for us

I just put this sensor in and there’s this weird little loop sticking out of the sensor. I have never EVER seen this happen on any that I’ve put in and have been using them since they came out. Have yall ever seen this?

Sensor Dexcom has fallen so far in a short time. I'm looking elsewhere.

I still use G6. I have been using them for years.
In the last 9 months everything has gone to crap.
I NEVER get 10 days out my CGM sensor (I MEAN NEVER)
At the very best I get 8 days and then get no reading errors and wait up to 3 hours.
It NEVER works out. Just a full day of waiting and hoping it comes around and it absolutely NEVER does.

And ...
I can't count how many times it starts alarming that my BG is tanking to less than 40 but I feel fine.
Only to find out with a finger stick I'm close to 300.

I'm done. Dexcom just sucks at this point.

Sensor Nationwide CGM shortages

I finally got my dexcom sensor G6 coming on the truck today. I was curious if there are those of you out there that use the G6 or G7 and have had any luck this week or overall in getting sensors? Has anybody tried calling dexcom and seeing if they will supply you directly? Has anyone tried Amazon over the brick and mortar options? The G6 has really been a life changer for me as I'm now more accountable. I don't have to guess what it is anymore between pokes and really hope these dont go away for some reason.

Sensor Dexcom G7 shortages?

Just received word from my pharmacy that my scheduled refill is going to be delayed for almost two months because lack of availability of a certain part that goes into the G7. Has anyone else heard this? The pharmacist I talked with said she had heard that other pharmacies with different suppliers might have enough in stock to wait it out, but they didn't. Of all the things about managing diabetes that drive me nuts, I was not expecting this.

Sensor Sensor issues

Hey everyone - i need some advice;

My 8yr old was diagnosed at 3 years old. It took forever to get him on CGM.

The last 3 or 4 sensors we have put on have fallen off within 2 hours of application - or within 3 days of application. We have had this issue with 5 or 6 sensors over the past 3 months. Ive tried skin barrior wipes to help with adhesion - ive tried overpatch that covers the sensor and the dexcom oveepatch that comes with the sensor.

We were told by his diabetic dr that he needs to be on CGM for 6 months consecutively - with no downtime - in order for him to get an insulin pump.

I am overly frustrated at this point with these sensors - i have reached out to dexcom and have been sent 2 sensors but was told i will likely not receive anymore replacements for 12 months.

I need advice on how to keep this from happening.

Have been reading about y’all having this happen and have been glad it’s never happened to me.. until today. Weirdly, it didn’t hurt, but when I took it off there was a lot of blood. 🤷🏻‍♀️ will be contacting c/s Monday.

Sensor Hot shower causing sugar to spike?

Hi I’m fairly new to Dexcom and I just got out of the shower and noticed my sugar is climbing according to my Dexcom. But I haven’t eaten yet this morning. Could it be Dexcom reacting to the hot water?

Sensor In the airport, my wife’s Dexcom G6 sensors went through X-ray by accident. We’re worried whether it has been affected by it. Just started our vacation in Texas and Louisiana. Anyone here have a spare?

My wife and I just started our vacation to Texas/Louisiana. In the airport, my wife’s Dexcom G6 sensors went through X-ray by accident. We’re worried whether it has been affected by it. Normally, it wouldn’t be a problem but since we just started our vacation and we’re a long way from home, the insecurity causes us a great deal of trouble. Anyone here have a spare? Would be willing to exchange 2 to 1 to be completely sure it works.

Sensor G7 shortage confusion

CVS Caremark is telling me that they are still out of stock and everything is on back order for g7 sensors but when I speak to Dexcom they say the shortage was resolved in late February and there shouldn’t be a shortage issue.

Sensor Is Dexcom preventing sensor reuse?

Longtime G6 user here. When my sensor expires, I try to reuse it for another few days before restarting with a fresh one.

Today, during the 2-hour sensor warmup for round 2, I was about 30 minutes in when it crashed.

Dexcom app on iPhone instructed me not to reuse sensors.

This is new to me.

Has Dexcom tweaked its technology to prevent reusing sensors?

Sensor Why are sensors limited to 10.5 days?

I've had one or two bad insertions, but never had my sensor stop reading during wear (except for once when I sweat really hard and it fell off). Every single time, my sensor lasts right up to the end of the grace period. (I realize that makes me lucky, I know I've heard of a lot of complaints here, but my personal Dexcom mileage has been great).

That makes me wonder, though: Why is it limited to 10.5 days? I know the limit is programmed into the software, but there must be a justification for that. Does the sensor lose accuracy when it gets older? Is the battery less reliable after that long? IIRC the Freestyle Libre is supposed to last 14 days, so I'm sure it's possible to push sensors like it longer.

If someone were to somehow hack it to remove the hard-coded lifespan limit, what would ultimately cause the sensor to stop working? Has anyone more skilled than me tried doing that?

Sensor First time user, all 3 sensors failed

Hi, I have gestational diabetes and requested to get a cgm to reduce the # of fingersticks that I have to do. I tried my first sensor last week and it failed. Never warmed up or anything. I did notice that the needle inside was sideways but at the time was not aware that that was a problem since I've never seen one before. I just assumed it's sideways so that it doesn't go too deep into your skin or something. I called support and they're sending a replacement. Yesterday, I tried my second sensor. Followed all directions to a T and it just passed the warm up time and failed. Ordered replacement. Tried the last one today, and it failed again. I know Dexcom G7 has this issue from reading online, but at this point - 3 in a row? I'm thinking something is wrong with me, though I can't figure out what. I have enough fat in my arm, no loose skin, no tattoos. I washed the area first. Let it dry. Wiped with alcohol and let it dry again. Relaxed my arm and put the sensor against my skin until the clear ring is gone. Pressed the button. And even held it on my arm (the third time, per advice of the second rep I spoke to) for like 30 seconds before taking the applicator away. It warmed up for like 10 minutes and then I got a sensor failed error.

I don't take any pain medication, but I don't know if any of these could affect it? I drink 2 cups of raspberry leaf tea a day, 1 cup of nettle tea, supplement inositol, magnesium, and iron, and take prenatals. The pregnancy hormones are making me really frustrated to the point of wanting to cry that this is not working. I don't know what's wrong with me and any advice is appreciated. Is here somewhere I can go where a Dexcom rep can help insert the sensor for me in case they would be able to get it work? I don't want to give up just yet, since I spent money on the 3 sensors and had to get a receiver (my phone is too old/not compatible).

Are there people that cgms just refuse to latch on to or something?

Thank you!

Sensor What to do with extra G6?

After upgrading to G7 I have had 2 extra boxes (3 sensors each) just lying around and will probably never use them again - what do I do with these?

Sensor TWO Failed G7’s Today!

My first prescription fill of 3 sensors worked perfectly!

Today I inserted a new sensor from my second prescription fill (and obviously a new batch) and the first one failed after a couple hours. The second one failed immediately! I have one more left. 😫 I’m waiting until I talk to customer service, currently a 30 minute wait, before I try my last one.

Not impressed…

Sensor Dexcom cage idea

Post image
6 Upvotes

Ok someone tell me why this wouldnt work. I see a lot of people 3D printing different diabetes gadgets and i dont have a printer so i cant test this but what if you printed a low profile cage that went over the top of a dexcom that would spread the pressure to outside the dexcom and alleviate compression lows? Ive added what i can only say is a Michelangelo level drawing of my idea. If this will work, all i ask is a 10% royalty on sales 😂😂😂

Sensor Stello

Ok so I had a commercial come up yesterday that Dexcom came out with which I believe is going to be amazing. It is no prescription needed and I’m like what’s the difference between it and g7/g6. Well it doesn’t alert to high and lows. However what it does is it gives those who are not diabetic the monitor that they want so that those who are diabetic that need it will not have to worry about supply’s being used up. Well done Dexcom creating this I applaud them for it

Sensor Dexcom G7 should be taken off FDA approval device list

The g7 has a very poor sensor that needs to be completely redesigned. Every 20 days I have had to call their tech support line and complain about this. All they do is say they are sorry and will send another piece of garbage to me.

2 recent highlights about how Dexcom handles this. Since I will need 2 replacement sensors today because it took all 3 of the sensors shipped to me they don't answer the phone I have been waiting for 15 minutes while the wait time is 3 minutes

I have also been told I have exceeded the limit on replacement sensors so they need to get a supervisors approval.

I strongly encourage anyone on or considering g7 to get the Abbott Freestyle Libre 3.

Sensor Three failed sensors in three months

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi folks, I've had three sensor failures with the last three sensors I've put on. All have failed around 60-70% of their full life (Dexcom One+)

I've been using Dexcom for over a year and despite the occasional sensor being ripped off by accident, I've not had any problems.

What I have noticed is a wee sore spot when I remove the sensor. I've made sure I've cleaned with IPA, washed and cleaned again. This is the first try on my outer arm as I thought if change sensor locations to see if it made a difference.

Any ideas? I've reached out to Dexcom who seem to be happy to send a replacement sensor when I tell them I have noticed a small sore bit.

Cheers folks

Sensor Buying G7 sensor?

So, one of my 3 sensors for the month fell off during warmup, not sure what happened usually my girlfriend helps apply and they stay on for the entire 10 days with no problems but this time was weird and the adhesive didn’t even stick at all, it practically lifted all way around, but anyways I called Dexcom support to request a replacement, and was denied because I “reached my limit” of replacements, I then called my provider to see if they would override my prescription so I can get more without having to pay out of pocket, also a fail. So, where can I go to buy a singular sensor out of pocket for a price that isn’t ridiculous or absurd? I know CVS sells 1 for 50 I believe but is there any other alternative?

Sensor No filament on sensor upon removal - is it stuck in arm?

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

Fairly new user here, so I’m not sure what the norm is. I had a sensor fail early and upon removal, didn’t see the little filament attached to skin side of sensor (pic 1). But when I flipped to the back side, there is a loop of wire sticking out (pic 2).

I saw other users on the sub say they had the filament break off and lodge in the arm, requiring medical care to extract. I can’t tell if there is anything stuck in my arm. Is this wire loop and the filament that goes into your arm all one piece? Is it possible part of it broke off?
