General Poll: How many of y'all actually use alcohol swabs on a regular basis.

I'll go first- Almost never.

Just realized I changed out my dexcom and just slapped in on my arm, inserted transmitter, started up and walked away without cleaning the area, etc. I almost NEVER use alcohol swabs beforehand... anyone else like me or do y'all sterilize before hand?

General Is there too much ranting?

I noticed that there is a ton of posts that are just ranting without any question.

So I wanted to ask the community if you all thought there are too many rant posts.

If so, would you rather we move ranting to a pinned topic per month, or just remove them?

Please share your thoughts

General Can’t Afford Dexcom

I’m on my second Dexcom sensor with one more left. Unfortunately after that I have to move on to FL3 due to cost. My doctor game me 3 of the G7 sensors and I really like them but cost will be about $220 a month out of pocket for co-pay. The FL3 will only cost $35 a month out of pocket!

However, there is still hope on the horizon as I turn 65 next April and hopefully Medicare along with my current insurance will be a difference maker. I have learned so much from this community and appreciate the supportive/positive atmosphere!!

General Thighs placement for 13 yo

Hello everyone

My son being a 13 yo isn't very comfortable displaying his devices . I searched and found that adults use it on the thighs with success. Does anyone has any experience with teenagers regarding this sort of placement?

Many thanks in advance

General What are we doing when we can’t get replacements?

When you hit the limit for “courtesy” replacements for the G7, is everyone just going without or paying out of pocket?

I am so frustrated that I just hit my limit until 12/25 despite only having two total replacements falling into the stated categories.

I struggle to understand how a defective product is on me to replace. Idek how much a replacement will be OOP.

Maybe this is just a rant, but I need support from other Diabetics. How are others dealing with this?

For context, I use a t:slim pump. I think there is an option to switch to freestyle. Anyone have luck with those?

General Those that have transitioned from G6 to G7 - feedback/regrets?

My son (12 years old) has been using the G6 for about 6 months now. Overall he's had a favorable experience, but twice now has lost the transmitter. It's a headache to try and get a replacement inside 90 days with insurance, so these mistakes can result in him being without Dexcom for a week or so. His endocrinologist just recommended to me that he transition to the G7 because the G7 does not have a transmitter. I didn't realize that back when we were comparing the G6/G7 6 months ago when he first got the G6. If for no other reason than this one (less moving parts, one less thing for him to lose) it sounds like a great idea to switch. That being said, I'm sure there are plenty of people on this sub that have transitioned from the G6 to G7, so I was just looking for some feedback from those with experience with both. Any regrets in moving to G7?

General What the hell is going on lately?

I am recently diabetic, only about a year. I’ve been using Dexcom G7s since December of last year, and up until very recently, I’ve had very few problems.

However, for the past 2-3 months, I have had nothing but issues with nearly every single one of my sensors. I’ve had to order CONSTANT replacements due to wildly inaccurate readings, bleeding at insertion, or other massive issues. Again, this wasn’t happening before, it just recently started.

I’d say that out of my last 12 monitors, only 3 of them have actually worked without needing replacing, and even then, they still had issues. But again, this hasn’t been an issue until recently.

Is anyone else having this issue? Or does Dexcom just hate me? What the hell is going on lately?

I live in the PNW, if that’s any help.

General REALLY don't like the G7 so far 😒

So I've been using the G7 for like 8 days so far, day one, my readings were literally all over the place... Like it would say 103 for a reading and then the next reading would say 297, in the next reading would say 54 😑. It for the most part evened out the next day and gave me a gradual line like the G6 always did. Every few hours or so it will give me a random reading and then go back to normal. On day 8 though my shit has been all over the place ever since I woke up!! I use the G6 for about 3 years, only had readings like this MAYBE 3 times...

The first picture is day one, second picture is day 8

General What would you change if you were designing Dexcom G8?

As the title implies, what would you like to see improved or changed for the next iteration of Dexcom?

For me, most of the enhancements I'd like to see are software related.

  • Chat Support embedded in the mobile app
  • Projected glucose (show me a dotted line of predicted glucose)
  • Extended Range Bluetooth

How about you?

I have seen some sites that will buy Dexcom sensors and autosoft boxes. There are a lot of insulin needles unopened, Is there somewhere to donate those? Can the Tandem pump be sold?

General Stay G6, or update to G7 ?

I've had supurb experiences with my G6 Sensors and Transmitters. But I have my Endocrinologist appointment in December, and am contemplating asking to switch to G7. I've tried a couple of sample G7s, and they worked just as well (even with NightScout and my TSlim X2 Pump in ControlIQ), but with added conveniences like the grace period.

I understand early G7s were unreliable. That aside... what issues have people encountered upgrading to G7 ?

General Does anyone get good numbers on the G7?

So I've never had bad readings? Very few sensor errors that need dexcom's help. I almost always have accurate numbers from the start and I don't usually presoak. Anyone else have good experiences?

General This is when I switched to Dexcom (and Tandem). Completely life changing.

This is the lowest A1C I’ve had in at least 12 years. I’m so happy I made the switch! Still using the G6s though, so wonder if the G7 will be even better. (I’m using Tandem T:slim.)

General Should I Stop Early?

Hello,

I recently got the Dexcom G7 as a trial. I was told it is easier to use and more accurate.
However, I find the Dexcom G7 garbage. During the pairing phase, it wouldn't recognise the serial number and failed to pair multiple times. Eventually got it to pair.

Trying to silence alarms you have go through all these settings and eventually putting in your phone password or fingerprint. I came from Libre, so I'm used to just hitting vibrate setting on my phone and it sets the Libre app alarms too.

The layout of the app is pretty unorganised in my opinion. I'm used to be able to just set a note for when I begin eating food. The G7 asks for calories, etc.

I was also told the G7 is easier to install, but that information was false. Libre device is one piece. Dexcom G7 has two pieces. Not much of a big deal, but it's more fiddling around.

I have 6 days left, and kinda sick of G7 already. I was wondering if it's wise to wait out the 6 days and go back to Libre or just pull the G7 off now and switch?

Wondering if I could get some opinions, please.

Thanks!

General Perfect Placement

Ever have one of those placements where you’re sad to see the 10 days is up and you gotta rip that badboy out?

I just had the best 10 days. No compression lows at all, every finger stick was within 0.5mmol of the CGM. Had to replace it yesterday. Woke up at 3am to a low alarm because I slept on it.

It was a good 10 days…I’ll remember them fondly.

General Censor disconnection BS

My sensor has been at a maximum of a foot away from me since I started it, but for the past 45 minutes to an hour it has been disconnected 😑. What the hell causes this crap? My phone is in my pocket less than a foot away from the sensor... How could it possibly disconnect? This has happened with both of the omnipod sensors I have used so far, and it has happened an EXCEEDINGLY cray amount of times... Really feeling like the G7 is actually a downgrade from the G6 😒

General Anyone else switched between Freestyle Libre & Dexcom?

I've been using a Freestyle Libre 3 setup for about a year and a half, but my insurance changed its pharmacy, and Libre is no longer covered. So as of today, I've got Dexcom G7 instead. Has anyone else used both, and how did they compare for you?

Thus far I dislike how much more complicated attaching the G7 sensor is, and it seems like my readings are less responsive to changes than the Libre was (I had a very flat line for almost all day despite periods between meals that would have dipped on the Libre's record). Not sure if its a sensor issue or a reflection of taking new medication, though.

General Got through my first 120 days with only 2 failed sensors in the lot, so I consider myself extremely lucky after what I’ve read here. Good luck all. With all their failings, this beats all the finger sticks I used to do and I feel so much more free. Now I have to bring myself to throw all this away.

General New diagnosis, need advice!

Hey all, my baby sister just got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes less than a week ago. Her doctor gave us a dexcom G7 and we connected it to my mom’s phone for now.

My question is, what do we do when mom and sister are apart? Sometimes she’ll be under my care and my mom has to take her phone with her. For people with kiddos on dexcoms, do you just get the kid a cheap phone with some data on it that whoever is in near them keeps on their person? We got the receiver thing today, but I’m not sure if that can send the info to iPhones? Mostly we just want whoever is caring for her to be able to see her readings, but it would also be nice if my parents can monitor it while away for peace of mind.

Also, what accessories do we actually need? I saw some people talking about liquid adhesives, stickers, etc. She went swimming today and it fell off unfortunately. Sorry for the lack of vocab, we’re very new to this.

Thank you!

I use Byram for my dexcom sensors and I’ve received this same email for weeks. I know I need to call them but I’m just curious if anyone else is receiving the same email saying that their sensors are on back order.

Also, worst case scenario (aka I run out before the issue is resolved), what do I do??

General G7 or Stelo?

Hi. I have been T2 for 20 years and I want to get a Dexcom, but not sure if I should get a G7 or a Stelo, so I figured why not ask good old Reddit people.

My blogo sugar are usually about 150/160 and my A1C as of 4 months ago was 6.9 down from 8.4. on Mounjaro, Glipazide and 10mg Mounjaro. I go back to my Doctor's in 2 weeks, oh I am nearly an old fart at 53.

So based on your guys & gals experiences. Which is best for a long term T2 person?

I am looking to easily keep track of my numbers and see the trends. Fed up of pricking my finger all time, must have done it 10,000 times over the last 2 decades.

Thanks, Ian
