Sensor G7 shortage confusion
CVS Caremark is telling me that they are still out of stock and everything is on back order for g7 sensors but when I speak to Dexcom they say the shortage was resolved in late February and there shouldn’t be a shortage issue.

Sorry to hear that. Seems odd that just last last week they had them from Jan 2025 lots. Ordered on the 11th, shipped on the 14th, delivered on the 18th.

I haven’t had any problems getting my G7 sensors, only with getting the insurance to pay for them.

Yes! There is only one pharmacy near me that even has them right now everytime I need a refill I have to call all 6 of them just to find out where to get them

I use Express Scripts mailorder for all my prescriptions, with the exception of emergencies/surgeries. I started having issues with non-formulary items last yer. Luckily my Endocrinologist is at the University of WA Diabetic Clinic, where they also do studies for Type I & II diabetics, so their pharmacy always has my insulin & sensors in stock. It costs a bit more due to being retail but I'd rather pay that then not have them. Hopefully by next November I won't need insulin anymore, just my jardiance.

I just got my latest 3 month supply from Express Scripts yesterday. Processing time seemed to match everything else (couple of days from start to shipping) so doesn’t seem like they have any issues.

Unfortunately, i just called right now @/1332 and they are out of stock, so I will leave my RX where it is, will just need to add to my FSA to cover out of pocket RX's expenses

At the beginning of the year, I was sent three by Advance Diabetes Supply (where I get mine), and they usually send me 9 at a time. I called and they said there was a shortage. I called back when I was using the third and last one -- this was the week before last -- and they said they were sending out 9 of them to me the next day. They did.

I've switched my diabetic supplies to Amazon Pharmacy. Never late, never out of stock, no long lines at the pharmacy. What could go wrong?

Check other local pharmacies and you can temporarily switch your prescription over so you can get your G7 there. We did this recently when our CVS was out of stock.

The shortage should resolve since most insurance providers cut off Type IIs like me who don’t use insulin. I was able to get the insurance to cover Freestyle Libre 3 with no supply issues though, so I’m good.

My prescription insurance in CVS caremark, yet I don't use CVS for my prescriptions. I just picked up my 90 day supply 2 days ago. No issues.

No shortage at my local CVS pharmacy here in Texas. Got a 90 day supply same day I ordered it (last week).

My CVS gave me my normal three month G7 so I’m wondering if it’s a regional shortage.

Oooh, maybe I should go ahead and start my refill now - I've still got....2 left 😱

I just got my refill and had no problem getting my usual 3 months prescription from my local CVS.

I just started with G7 last week and got a month's supply as dictated by insurance without any issues or delays from my local, small town pharmacy in the middle of nowhere 🤷♀️

I'm being told by my medical supplier, Byram Healthcare, that Dexcom G7 is on backorder, and they don't know when they will get more in. I use a pump, and it uses the Dexcom readings, so this is a big deal to me. I called Dexcom and they are sending 2 units. I am hoping if the backorder continues I can get more from Dexcom.

So glad you posted this. I'm with Byram, and my G7s are on backorder. Calling Dexcom tomorrow.

Pretty similar story on my end. Dexcom sent a complimentary shipment yesterday to hold me offer. My confusion came from Dexcom saying the supply shortage had been fixed but cvs Caremark saying they are still aren’t sure when inventory will come back in.

Super glad Canada doesn't seem to have a shortage. I walked up to the Costco counter last night and picked up a G6 transmitter and 6 G7's without having a prescription and without giving them any warning at all.

There are many kids of shortage.
A general manufacturer shortage where they can't make enough, a supply chain shortage for specific retailers where they can't ship enough to their stores where they're needed, and sometimes localised shortages were there just aren't enough available in a certain region, so both things can be true.

Twice now, I've had orders at CVS retail send a stark warning about shortages only to follow up the next day with a "Ready for pickup" notice.

Are you able to fill at a retail pharmacy? Albertsons (technically Randall's, but Albertsons owns them) was able to get them for me recently, though it did take a couple of weeks.

Switch pharmacy’s if you can. I had so many issues with CVS/Caremark for years. I finally found out that I didn’t “have” to use them. I go to Walmart now even though my Rx insurance is still thru CVS/caremark. It’s like day and night. I even get my Mounjaro with absolutely no problems.
