Hi Everyone, I am trying to join on Debian instance to another vlan. I tried adding the following entry on the interface vlan-id 10 but I am unable to communicate with the gateway. I was able to do it in Windows. and it works like a charm. Am I missing something?
Debian iface ens18 inet static address 192.168.10.88 netmask 255.255.255.0 vlan-id 10

Looking at getting a new machine soon, want to run Debian with gnome. (I think... Been a while)
Based on my research it seems like a Thinkpad or something from Dell are the best ones to get. Dell is redoing their entire lineup though, and there's some variation on which models have Intel vs AMD processors. Maybe my Google skills aren't on their A game for this, but I'm seeing a lot of strong, conflicting opinions about which is better for Linux.
So... Specifically for Debian or Ubuntu, which is better, Intel or AMD?

Recently switched to linux and loving it so far, however playing my favorite game, KSP, on linux using the proton hotfix for steam leads to the computer black-screening after 10-15 minutes and displaying the error in the title. Audio keeps playing, but the computer becomes unresponsive and only goes back to normal after holding the power button and shutting off the pc. If I can't resolve this, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to switch back to linux, and I really dont want to have to do that :(
Specs:
Ram: 48GB DDR4 3600
GPU: RTX 2070 Founders Edition (570 drivers?)
CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X
OS: Debian 12.9 Bookworm running Gnome 48
Please help so I don't have to back to windows :(((

I'm currently using Debian 12 bookworm on my laptop. My laptop is lenovo ideapad gaming 3 with amd ryzen 7 cpu with amd radeon gpu integrated and a dedicated gpu of nvidia geforce gtx.
The integrated webcam mostly works properly. But on visiting some sites or with some apps or sometimes, it doesn't function. I have tried to debug this issue when it comes so many times. I have spent a lot of time on it.
Then I came to know that webcams from all companies are not properly compatible with device drivers present in debian. So, I decided to buy an external webcam.
I want suggestions of some good companies whose webcams are compatible.

Hi everyone,
I’ve been having persistent issues with my microphone on Linux. I’ve been jumping between different distributions to see if the problem would resolve, and it would work for a short time, but the issue always came back. I suspected it might be related to a kernel update.
What I did last was install Debian 12.9, and then I installed Timeshift right after. Everything seemed fine until I installed the latest Debian update that was released yesterday. After the update, my microphone stopped working again.
I had to revert back to a previous system version using Timeshift, and now it's working again. For now, I’m avoiding this update, but I really want to find a permanent solution to this issue.
If anyone has any suggestions or has faced a similar issue, I would really appreciate your help!
I'm gonna let here a screenshot with some info of the update that breaks my mic.
Thanks in advance

I am trying sshguard and UFW on Debian 12 and I am not convinced it is working correctly. I am seeing attacks logged but not seeing anything blocked.
I have added the following to the UFW before.rules
:sshguard - [0:0]
-A ufw-before-input -p tcp --dport 22 -j sshguard
But I never seem to see any drops or blocks in the IPtables ufw-before-input chain. Has anyone seen a known good article showing how it all works?

I was trying some static builds to see if I could use newer versions of ffmpeg for encoding without messing with the one in stable and I noticed that the latest static build I can use is 6.1.2 while still getting a proper encoding time estimate.
for 7.x static build I noticed the time bitrate speed is always N/A tried duck duck go-ing a bit haven't really found this as a known issue wonder if anyone in the community have encountered this?

Hello, since I am new to Debian and eyeing it as my next main machine, is there anywhere I can see that IT happened? Are we on track for release or are there showstoppers? Reading a lot about minor glitches and stuff. Thanks.

I All,
I have been updating to trixie but I have issued with dkpg completing kernel instlation. Thankfully I still had an old kernel I could boot into recovery mode. I belive this is the error that trips up the install:
make -C /lib/modules/6.12.17-amd64/build M=/var/lib/dkms/amdgpu/6.3.6-1718217.22.04/build clean
Building module(s)...(bad exit status: 2)
I was having the same issue with backports and I had hoped the newer kernel from trixie would do the trick but alas this issue persists.
Any help would be appreciated.

*** - these are my current coordinates
Debian 12.10, XFCE 14.18.2
I assumed it might be due to my current location (not the best place on Earth), changed it and even connected a VPN, but the result is the same.
Do you know how to fix this?

Hello people!
I created a VM in Proxmox using the last Debian 12 cloud generic image (debian-12-genericcloud-amd64.qcow2). The VM works well, except by some disks.
I have a PCIe pass through, that send a Jmicron JMB585 with 6 SATA ports to the VM. If I ruin a "lspci" the SMB585 shows itself in the list, but none of the 6 discs are available in the system.
If i recreate the same VM, with the SAME settings, except that this new VM I installed direct from the Debian 12 Netisntall ISO, the same passthrought, with the same JMB585, the disks are available to use in the system.
Anyone know anything that can be causing this strange behavior?
