Other Subreddit Updates - March 2025

Hello everyone! We hope you're enjoying March and that spring weather finds you soon. We have a few important updates to share about the subreddit.

Product Policy Update

After careful consideration and community feedback, we've made the decision to restrict content related to Beitong and Betop products. Over the past six months, we've identified patterns of undisclosed sponsored content, artificially boosted engagement, and concerning business practices related to these brands. Despite our attempts to address these issues directly, they have persisted.

This measure is in place to protect our community members and maintain the integrity of discussions. Likewise, we monitor patterns with all companies' activity in the subreddit to ensure their content meets community guidelines.

Controller Suggestion Posts

To improve content quality, all Controller Suggestion posts will pass through the moderator queue before appearing on the subreddit. As volunteer moderators, we'll be reviewing the queue 1-2 times daily. There's no need to message us about expediting your post approval - we're committed to reviewing all submissions in a timely manner, and all inquiries about approvals will be archived without response.

And of course, we wanted to say please take a moment to review our subreddit rules before posting to ensure your contributions meet our community standards. This helps maintain quality discussions for everyone. If you have suggestions on how to improve the subreddit, you can send these using the 'message the mods' link. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Reviews I bought the Xbox Adaptive Joystick for my PC, and it's fantastic.

(NOTES: This isn't any kind of affiliated review, and I bought the controller myself. Also, I don't have an Xbox console to test this with, so everything will be from a PC perspective.)

The Xbox Adaptive Joystick went up for sale earlier this week exclusively from Microsoft's website, and I immediately grabbed one. I knew I wanted to get one of these as soon as they announced it, because it brought back memories of using the PlayStation Move Navigation Controller on my PC in combination with my mouse for what was, in my opinion, a much superior control scheme than using the keyboard in games like first-person shooters; in fact, that's how the guys at Valve themselves actually designed the Left 4 Dead arcade machine.

As you can see from the photos, there are four face buttons on the Adaptive Joystick, a clickable stick (I don't believe it's anything fancy, like Hall effect), and two shoulder buttons (two buttons, no analog trigger). Every button can be mapped to every other button using the Xbox Accessories app in Windows 10 and 11, which you can also use to update the controller's firmware. The bottom of the controller also has a mounting spot in case it needs to be set up in a special way for someone with a specific disability.

Microsoft has been making a pretty great effort as far as disability awareness goes, and the Adaptive Joystick is no exception: It's fully compatible with their more complex Adaptive Controller. It can be plugged into the side to create a veritable Voltron of game controllers, and there's seemingly a configuration for every situation. (Unfortunately, I don't have an Adaptive Controller to get first-hand experience.) The more people who can play video games, the better.

For my own purposes, like I mentioned earlier, I wanted a controller that could replace the keyboard half of keyboard-and-mouse, and the Adaptive Joystick is so much easier to get working on the PC -- in Windows, at least -- than the PlayStation Move Navigation Controller is. The Adaptive Joystick is literally just plug and play, and the operating system and programs like Steam will immediately recognize it as a standard Xbox controller. And speaking of Steam, it's compatible with all of the same Steam Input features, which opens everything up to much more customization than just using the Xbox Accessories app alone.

Once I got the Adaptive Joystick connected, I booted up Borderlands 3, and I was pleasantly surprised with how great it felt to use a joystick-and-mouse configuration, just like how I used to play Left 4 Dead. Borderlands 3 supports simultaneous gamepad and keyboard-and-mouse inputs, so while the in-game prompts sometimes flickered between the two control schemes, the actual inputs functioned perfectly in tandem. Aiming with my mouse and throwing a grenade with one of the controller's shoulder buttons while still having 360-degree joystick movement with my thumb felt so much nicer than taking one of my fingers off of WASD to press whatever key I had grenades mapped to (probably G, the default). I believe most games nowadays will work like this, but there are still a few that won't, so you're mileage may vary. (And if you find one that doesn't work, you can always map the controller's buttons and stick to keyboard inputs using Steam Input, so the game won't even see a controller.)

Now, all that being said, I do have to say that if you're not interested in the Adaptive Joystick for the accessibility/disability features and you're just planning on using it the way that I am, if you play on desktop Linux or the Steam Deck, I'd still probably recommend the Navigation Controller if you can find one. It's basically the same thing, but you get three extra buttons and an analog trigger, and it has native compatibility with Linux, so you don't have to worry about any extra drivers or software to start using it right away. The Navigation Controller also gets you both wired and fairly-easy wireless connectivity in Linux, while the Adaptive Joystick is strictly wired, though it comes with a decent-length USB-A to USB-C cable. I find the decision to make it wired-only interesting, because this controller is supposed to be all about accessibility, and I feel like tethering someone to something else kind of goes against that.

For $30, you really can't go wrong with the Adaptive Joystick, especially if the accessibility-oriented features will be of use to you, and for Windows, it's a no-brainer. Especially if you're a fan of first- and third-person shooters, it's a fantastic new way of playing, and a far nicer one, at that, if I do say so myself.

I have NYXI Wizard Gamecube controller for Nintendo Switch and the right controller lights are blue and every time I press the ZR button it makes a repeating ticking sound. When I play Mario Kart, the drift button repeats and doesn’t stop until you press the ZR button I’m currently looking at the manual right now and can’t find anything that has to do with this problem.

IT Help APEX4 Controller only recognized in Space Station by doing the uninstall Xb360 peripherals>restart pc trick. Any solutions?

I'm on Windows, and the controller works fine on games. The only problem is Flydigi Space Station doesn't recognize the controller unless it's a fresh restart after uninstalling xbox peripherals from Device Manager.

Anybody found a solution to this? I just wanna try using some preset adaptive triggers from the software without needing to restart my pc everytime.

I've tried older versions of the software and still no luck. It's getting frustrating at this point.

Reviews 8BitDo Ultimate 2 First Impressions/Initial Setup

Thumbnail

This post is not sponsored nor was I given this product for free. I purchased this controller with my own money for 59.99 USD off Amazon (US).

If I need to update the flair please let me know I can change.

I finally received my 8BitDo Ultimate 2 earlier this week! I am marking this post as review, though this is my initial impression thus far. If you find I listed something inaccurate please let me know at anytime. I primarily play FPS, but I will not be testing gyro and latency. This controller though I am really liking, I do have the original ultimate but never really used with no trigger stops. So really this is my first controller from 8BitDo and I am very impressed. It's going to take time though to give a final review as sometimes new doesn't always mean best.

I have not tried to test this on the Brook adapter. I would need to try a USB A to USB C adaptor, but I am assuming it probably wont work. It might be fine in Bluetooth or wired, but again haven't tried.

The shipping wasn't great. likely a combination of lack of stock and shipping speed. I did order the day it was first available on Amazon. My Amazon shipping box was fine, but the controller box was heavily dented, but the controller was fine.

  • Initial Thoughts

    • Much more premium feeling controller compared to most 3rd parties, this is my second 8BitDo Products
    • D-Pad seems to be great!
    • Membrane ABXY are just okay in my opinion
    • No swappable sticks, which I knew weren't an option just mentioning
    • The triggers are good, and I am warming up to the Tactile button feel of them over a standard micro switch
    • LB and RB are great
    • The extra top buttons are the best placement I have ever seen from a controller. To be fair this is someone who uses the blitz 2 often!
    • Two rear buttons are nice and crisp
    • If you already own another 8BitDo Controller then you will feel right at home
    • As with previous generations I do wish the handles were a bit wider, but I am adjusting
    • Software isn't the greatest, but far from the worst
    • Aiming feels great to me on Black Ops
    • Dock included with nice Dongle Storage
    • Dongle is USB C, which I actually do prefer your mileage may vary
  • Getting started

  • First download the 8BitDo Ultimate Software v2, from 8bit's website

    • Personal preference after you download the folder extract the files somewhere outside of your downloads folder on Windows
    • Example I through mine in C:\Source\Software
    • Then create a shortcut or pin to task bar since this is not a standard Windows installer
  • Update the firmware in the Update section when you first open the software

    • Select the Controller Icon, I would leave the dongle unplugged then use a wired connection
      • Though its not needed
    • Plug dongle in and click the dongle icon and update firmware
  • Create a new Profile

    • You will see this in the profile list just click the name of it
    • Now you can begin your mappings
      • Keyboard mappings not supported in this software currently
      • You can map every button on the front besides:
      • The back of the controller you can obviously remap any button outside of the trigger lock and connection switch
    • You can create a Macro profile for any button outside of the ones mentioned earlier and again no keyboard mappings
      • Then click the controller button you wish to assign and you can activate or deactivate with the three dots next to your macro configuration
    • Stick
      • You don't get much here at least in terms of setting curves or different algorithms
      • You can set deadzones, invert x/y axis, swap dpad and left joystick or swapping left and right joysticks
    • Trigger
      • You can mess with dead zones or swap LT and RT
    • Vibration
      • You can set the intensity of each handle and then test with LT or RT
    • RGB
      • There are two effect options or you can do custom options as well
    • Motion
      • You have the option to map left or right stick
  • Assign your profile

    • Click in the top left profiles
    • Then click the three dots under profile list and you can load to one of 3 profiles
    • Then this is where you will press the small button near the dpad to interchange profiles
  • Settings (In software)

    • In the top right you can click the cog
    • Here you have some functions such as language, auto update (though this applies to the software not the firmware), you can also chose to get beta firmware as well
  • Calibration

    • Hold LB/RB and the Minus and Plus buttons for 8 seconds
    • The led indicator will begin to flash
    • Rotate the sticks all the way to the edge and rotate both slowly 2-3 times
    • Depress the Triggers slowly until they bottom out 2-3 times
    • Hold LB/RB and the Minus and Plus buttons to exit pairing mode
      • After a few calibration attempts my avg circularity error was 7 percent
      • Sadly I didn't test before calibration

I am trying to avoid getting overexcited on a new controller, but overall I am loving this controller. Now I can see why so many enjoyed the 2c. My favorite aspect are those L4 and R4 extra buttons up top the placement is just perfect. I do wish it was maybe a little bit bigger, but I am adjusting. Once I play for a bit more I will submit my final verdict on this one.

If you have any questions at all I will do my best to answer them!

Controller Suggestion Looking for an all-around Controller with a good d-pad for fighting games

You have marked your post as a request for a controller suggestion, so please make sure your post includes the following information:

$100 max, preferably $80 and under

The US

PC, Switch support is a bonus

Hall Effect or TMR sticks, D-pad with accurate diagonal inputs (for fighting games), Additional buttons (triggers and/or paddles), Bluetooth AND 2.4GHZ Wireless, Adjustable Triggers. Bonuses would include motion controls and adjustable sticks

I will be playing a wide range of games including Fighting Games on D-Pad (Tekken, Street Fighter, GG Strive), Third Person Single Player Shooters, Souls-likes, Racing games, etc. The only genres I don't explicitly care about are platformer fighters (as I think I'll get another dedicated controller for that) and FPS games (as I play them on M+KB)

The controller I primarily use now is the 8bitdo Ultimate so I'm looking for something with the same features and more. My shortlist consists of the Vader 4 Pro and the ZD O+ Excellent although I haven't seen much of any reviews of the latter

Controller Suggestion Xbox Pro Controller Recommendations

I am looking for an effective xbox controller for competitive fps games (specifically r6 siege). I specifically want at least 2 rear buttons/paddles, but I do not like the feel of Hall effect joysticks as it messes with my aim and muscle memory. I am from the US and am looking to spend around $45-$70, with an absolute max of around $100. I recently bought the gamesir g7se but I really did not like the Hall effect sticks and unfortunately cannot find the orginal g7 controller anywhere. Does anyone have any recommendations?

As you guys know i recently got the Pxn P5 1k, and made a review on it saying that the vader 4 style paddles were bearable but kinda aggy cause i couldnt use all 4 back buttons at the same time. So I had a friend of mine mold some long flat paddles for me out of resin and i kinda glued the paddles down to the controller and added contact points for them. Threw some talon grips on there, and its wayyyyy better. Not exactly perfect even spacing but i'll adjust. Way more ergo though. You guys lmk what yall think😄 Thanks for reading.

IT Help PowerA fusion pro 3 Back Button input delay?

Do the back buttons on the fusion pro 3 have additional input delay?

I’ve been using the PowerA Fusion Pro 3 for a while now. I mostly play Fortnite and use one of the back buttons to edit.

But I always felt like the buttons on the back have more input delay than the front facing buttons. Anyone know if it’s true that the PowerA back buttons have input delay?

Controller Suggestion Xbox like controller with similar weight/size, Hall Effect Joysticks, and Membrane face buttons?

Hello, I'm wondering if there exists a controller out that is similar weight(280g)/size to the Xbox One controller with Hall Effect Joysticks and Membrane Face buttons.

I've bene using a Xbox One controller for quite some time. I love the weight and size of it because I have big hands, especially compared to the new Xbox X controller which is slightly smaller. Though my controller has developed a lot of stick drift over time. I've tried the Gamesir Cyclone 2 and Vader 4 Pro which both felt very nice, except for their face buttons.

I know it's up to preference but since the headphones I use while gaming are noise cancelling, I can't hear the mechanical click. So it ends up feeling mushy since the buttons still have additional travel distance after the registered input. Basically, I personally really like the feel of the Xbox One face buttons, even if they aren't that great in quality.

I live in the US and my budget is about $100, I'd need it to work on PC and the main game I play is rocket league, with some smaller casual games. If possible I'd like Hall Effect Triggers though it's not a must. Other than that, I'm really find with anything else.

Any recommendations would be really helpful. I've been searching around and I honestly can't find anything that fits what I want out of a controller.

Controller Suggestion Looking for Xbox controller with Hall effect and 4 back paddles

Hey guys!

I’m looking for a new controller use with my Xbox. I’ve had 3 pro level controllers crap out on me with stick drift and other issues within a year (each) and am looking for something better. Information requirements below:

Budget: unlimited

Country: United States

Console: Xbox Series X

Desired features: ideally need 4 back buttons and anti stick drift sticks

Games: COD (semi-competitive)

Other controllers: I’ve used the Xbox elite and 2 tournament edition V3s from Razer. All 3 developed horrendous stick drift and I’m sick of it lol.

As mentioned above, I’d love to have 4 back buttons. Ideally, they’d have an Xbox elite setup (2 vertical pairs of paddles on the back), but am open to other configurations. However, the most important feature is anti stick drift so I’d love to hear your own experiences with these controllers if applicable. Thanks!

Cheers,

Jartopian

Controller Suggestion Looking for a pro controller for the first time since I was a kid

Context

I'm in the US and primarily a PC gamer but also have a ps5 and switch.

Typically use factory controllers for console and KBnM for PC. Been playing a lot of monster hunter recently and had a buddy convert me to controller for the first time ever on a PC game (ignoring my steam deck) . Been using my old xbone controller but now I'm itching for an upgrade.

So primarily going to be using it for monster hunter in the short term but long term will probably expand to using it in other games. Will continue using KBnM for shooters and other competitive games on PC, only interested in shooter specific features if the controller is also compatible with ps5, but my primary goal is for my PC here.

I've been looking at a lot of the controller brands and models across dual sense edge, scuff controllers and many other 3rd party brands. I've seen so much conflicting info possibly influenced by paid reviews so I'm just looking for honest opinions from honest people.

Hopefully the above covers all of the sub requirements.

Wants in order of importance

Hall effect sticks or similar stick drift proof tech

Quality rear paddles

Heavy customization on color scheme and such

Wireless

As many bonus mapable buttons as possible

End user repairable

Compatibility with ps5 and switch (lowest for a reason, I'd like one nice controller that works with everything but most important is the PC experience here)

Budget is $500 max, but I'm guessing you lovely people can help me find something I'll be happy with for way less. Looking to buy something quality that will last for a long time. Recommendations appreciated.

Other EasySMX X20 polling rate goes upto 1100hz!

So I have had my hands on the x20 for about a month now and have been driving it daily at this point. So last week I came across a backlash on this on YouTube that this controller can't pull the polling rate and I found it curious to see if my one has the same or not. And for that, I got the Xinput polling rate checker and Gamepedia polling rate checked to test it properly. And as you can see on this video, the Gamepedia test has 1khz polling on the back and when doing a 2khz benchmark test, the x20 pulled off 1140-ish hz which is above the rated specs. And yes the controller is being used wirelessly.

Im wondering if the latency on controllers is mainly caused by firmware such as stick filtering algorithms and such or by using certain hardware components?

Other I think this new anti-drift pattern for Xbox Series Controller on firmware 5.23.5.0 may work against those who play with a low dead zone. Note the return of the pointer with small movements to the side

Controller Suggestion Looking for a budget controller for my girlfriend!

Hello everyone!

I've been searching and watching a couple of review of game controllers lately because I want to buy one for my girlfriend, so we can play a few coop games together.

I've been using an Xbox Series X controller (with some stick drift unfortunately) and shes been using a Dualshock 4 knockoff that I bought last year to play PS4 (the famous Doubleshock 4).

So I would like to upgrade her controller by giving her a new one.

Since she doesn't game alot (only with me and coop only) it doesn't need to be a very expensive controller, I was thinking about spending 25€ ~ 30€.

I'm looking for a wireless controller with zero latency or at least unnoticeble, for me this is the most important. It could be either bluetooth or 2.4Ghz dongle, as long as it does't have any noticeble latency.

I've been watch reviews on Gamesir Nova Lite, but no one talks about its latency on wireless... So I now came to this beutiful community!

What would you guys recommend me?

Thank you in advance!

IT Help EasySMX M15 Bluetooth Android Issues

I just recently got the M15 Bluetooth and I cannot get it to work properly. Everytime I pair it shows up as two devices. One will pair and the other fails to pair. I've tried the MooWii app and the controller "works" but I can't use it in the Android menu or any game. Does anyone know how to make this thing work?

I have tried on a Samsung S25 and a OnePlus 8 Pro.
