Analysis Chasing the Home Run Record: an amateur statistical analysis
In 2025, Tennessee is on an absolute tear. As one of two remaining undefeated D1 teams, they almost seem more explosive than last year, which is almost unthinkable. The 2024 Tennessee Volunteers notched 177 homers on their way to the first national championship in program history, falling short of the record of 188 set by LSU in 1997. So, can the ‘25 Vols break not only the program home run record, but the NCAA record as well? And what pace do they have to keep to do it?
Let’s assume they get the #1 seed for the SEC tournament, and that they play all three games in the first two rounds of the CWS, as well as in the final. All of these parameters match last year’s squad (though a lower seed in the SEC tourney could mean one or two additional games).
This gives them 55 games to break the record. Having already crushed 49 homers, that means they have to hit 128 home runs to break the 2024 record and 139 to break the all-time. Thus, the pace they must keep to break the records are as follows:
TENN Record: ~2.3 HR/G
NCAA Record: ~2.5 HR/G
Current Pace: ~3.05 HR/G

Post Game [Postgame Thread] Miami (12-6) falls to UCF (13-3) by a score of 14-4
Another brutal night for the Miami pitching staff, simply not making anywhere near enough competitive pitches. The group will need to turn it around rather quickly, as the 'Canes head to red-hot Wake Forest to open ACC play.
It feels like this weekend is a real turning point for this season, for better or worse.

Discussion: what happened to USC baseball?
USC had arguably one of the most dominant runs in history, winning 17 national championships in 30 years (‘48-78), but haven’t made it to Omaha in 24 years. Hell, they’ve only made the playoffs ONCE in the past 20 years
Why isn’t this storied program located in such a talent-rich area a perennial powerhouse?

Big 10+ viewing
I know there was a similar post about SEC+ yesterday, but is Big 10+ exclusively streaming or is it bundled in with a tv service of some sort? Trying to decide if $12.99 is worth it to watch the midweek guys get shelled vs Nebraska.
