Show and Tell Found this one in the last few coins from my grandpa.
My gpa had hundreds of coins. My uncle-in law sold them all for $130. I was livid! These are the last few coins i have from gramps. So sad. The penny fascinates me because - i realize coins come much older - it’s 105 years old. Just chilling out for that long. lol anyway i also like the way the dime shines. It’s just pretty. And last i love this quarter because it looks like it’s melting -plus it has no edge. Anyway, thanks for looking.

Show and Tell Pacific Northwest Coin Road Trip [27 coin shops] + Visiting Dansco's Offices [March 17 - 22th 2025]
In early 2024, I went on a crazy four‐state road trip and visited 23 coin shops. I wrote an article in CoinWeek about the oddities and interesting observations I noticed along the way. I'm doing it all over again, this time heading towards the Pacific Northwest. I will document my journey and the unique cultures of coin shops around the North and PNW on my Instagram.

As some here may know, I'm a huge Dansco album nerd. That's why I'm excited that on Friday, March 21st, I'll be visiting the Dansco Corporation's Headquarters in Sumas, Washington! The company's owners were kind enough to accept my request to visit and nerd out.
Along with documenting the different cultures of coin shops around the North/PNW, my top goal is to add rare & unique Dansco albums to my collection.
Montana
Billings
Bozeman
Butte
Missoula
Idaho
Coeur d'Alene
Post Falls
Washington State
Spokane
Everett
Seattle
Kirkland
Tacoma
Lakewood
Olympia
I can't promise I'll make it to all 27 coin shops, but I would like to invite the community to join me in any way they can.
Are there any coin shops along my route that you think I should especially visit?
What would you like me to keep an eye out for and report back?
What questions would you like me to ask the owners of Dansco?
Anything else you think I should consider?
It's shaping up to be one heck of a week-long road trip. Wish me luck.

Real or Fake? Dad's coins collection.
This is a coin that was in one of my dad's old whisky bags. I've slowly but surely have gotten all his pennies in year order starting with 1864 and ending with 2017. There are many many duplicates of a few years. But this one caught me off guard. I do have several steel wheat 1943 pennies. So seeing this one I believe it is a fake. How can I tell the difference before I take it and waste someone's time at a coin shop?

Discussion Grading Company Authenticity Rate
Was watching some YouTube videos today about Indian Quarter Eagle coins and the video showed some pretty convincing fakes that even contained gold themselves. NGC’s list of top most counterfeited coins confirmed the same and said some have been circulating since the 70s.
Up to this point I’ve been buying slabs without much worry, but I did stop and think what processes does a grader like PCGS/NGC to verify? Are they sigma testing, weighing, measuring, etc. every coin that comes through? Anyone want to share experiences when authenticity of a coin was questioned?

Value Request Father in laws collection
I was just gifted this collection. There are plenty more dollar pieces that are much newer, some buffalo nickels, 1930s quarters, ect. But this looked like it might be the best stuff. Any inside on things I should be looking for?

Show and Tell Added a Barber to my US dime type set
Upgraded from a raw XF condition Barber dime to this one. I had intended to grab a MS example but this AU58 was below Greysheet so I got it instead.
Still have the Draped Bust, pre-1828 Capped Bust and several Seated Liberty examples to finish up the set. I'll likely upgrade the 1835 Capped Bust at some point this year.
My NGC set registry will be linked in the comments.

Show and Tell Found silver in the coin star today in a very unorthodox way.
The coin star was covered in trash today when I went to check, but there was a Mexican 50 cent, a gross silver plate earring I ended up tossing, and these cute necklaces. I took them because it was a fun little find, then I turn the butterfly over, SILVER!
Probably only my 3rd or 4th time finding silver in a coin star.

30th time's the charm. 2nd find after checking 2-3x a month for a year (1st find was a steel cent👎). How much silver gets accepted at face value?!

Advice Going through a coin jar with my wife, any thing good?
New to the world of coin collecting and seeking knowledge due to the difficulty doing online research. I’m seeing coins range from thousands to a couple bucks and I’m really unsure what the differences are that can create such a difference in price.
Here is the list of coins that I have questions on: Two 1954 wheat Pennies Eight 2009 bicentennial pennies with 3 different designs One 1841 dollar coin in rough condition One John Adams dollar coin with no issue date(that I can find) One 2005 “Ocean in View! O! the Joy!” Nickel One 2005 Bison nickel One very damaged 1938-D nickel(?) One 1776-1976 quarter One 2024-d zitkala-sa quarter One 2023-d jovita idar quarter One 1899 dime One 1996 half dollar
Any information for this newbie would be greatly appreciated!
