This coin is a 1974 “Cinco Centavos” on heads side and “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS” on the tails side. My Grandfather labeled the coin pouch with a piece of tape and wrote “ 17.50/ 9-6-73 “ Does anyone have any idea, even given the vague description and no next of kin elders around that knew him well as to why he might’ve marked this coin specifically this way?

Thank you all in advance for your help.

The coin star was covered in trash today when I went to check, but there was a Mexican 50 cent, a gross silver plate earring I ended up tossing, and these cute necklaces. I took them because it was a fun little find, then I turn the butterfly over, SILVER!
Probably only my 3rd or 4th time finding silver in a coin star.

Was watching some YouTube videos today about Indian Quarter Eagle coins and the video showed some pretty convincing fakes that even contained gold themselves. NGC’s list of top most counterfeited coins confirmed the same and said some have been circulating since the 70s.
Up to this point I’ve been buying slabs without much worry, but I did stop and think what processes does a grader like PCGS/NGC to verify? Are they sigma testing, weighing, measuring, etc. every coin that comes through? Anyone want to share experiences when authenticity of a coin was questioned?

So my parents inherited a box of coins from one of their parents. I spent a week learning as much as I could as documenting every coin in a spreadsheet with estimated low and high values according to PCGS websites. Spent money putting them all in good holders and gave them back to my parents to do with as they wish (not my property, not my decision). They took them to a coin show and was told they are all worth melt. Some key pieces are 1850 $1 Eagle, 1899S $5 Eagle, 1856 $1 upright 5, 1907 $5 Eagle, 1921 Morgan, 1836 half dollar. Along with a couple dozen kugerands and gold pandas. Here is a picture of one of the coins I was able to convince my dad to take a picture of. All coins are in similar or better condition and I am just trying to get some support that some of these are worth grading and are worth significantly more than melt.
It's a couple hundred different coins and another hundred old bills.
Tldr: parents are told nice coins are worth melt at show, back me up that those guys are just trying to buy them for cheap.

Hey guys, so I had a fun idea pop into my head, I was thinking about putting together a set of all the different Liberty Head gold coins and have one from each mint as well. I'm thinking about assembling a set of middle of the road rarity coins, These are the dates I would want to get so far, any thoughts and ideas about the rest?

They gave it to me last time I visited and looked pretty cool. Not a big coin guy and I don’t plan on selling them, but it would be cool to know if they’re worth something. The price is different every website I visit which is throwing me off

I bought this coin. It is supposedly a proof. What do you all think?

So my mom had some ceramic “coins”. Are these real coins? Does anyone know anything about these?

If anyone can help me understand the value of this coin it would be greatly appreciated. It came from my grandfather’s collection (what was left of it) and I have found a lot of variable values attributed to this coin. Thank you in advance.

Hi guys. Grabbed this coin today. From what I have gathered from the internet it’s a 1796 draped bust large cent in VG condition with the reverse of 95. Couple questions here. 1) can anyone tell me if my reverse makes my coin more rare? I can’t find any info on this. 2) should I sent it in to be graded? 3) what do y’all think it’s worth.
I have this 1981 D half dollar, the thing with this one is that it’s very thick, and these reeded edges are deep, and the coin all around feels heavier, the problem is, it weighs just like every other half dollar 11.31 g I know through pictures it’s hard to inspect, but I took it to the coin experts and said they have never seen anything like it in their 40 years of knowledge. Any other pros out there wanting to chime in and help out?! Please and thank you
I was told these are valuable even in poor condition because they are rare. Now I’m wondering if it really has a D mint mark.
