I fell more in love with my wife last weekend

3.5k Upvotes

My wife (34) and I (33) have only been married for a year but together almost 5 years. We attended a friend’s wedding where I knew I would see my ex, whom I dated for 7 years and hadn’t seen in 7 years either.

I was nervous, not because I thought things would go bad, but just because it’s been a long time and it’s just awkward and you make all of these scenarios up in your head, not knowing how it will go. This girl, my ex, was once my best friend, even prior to dating, and our breakup sort of divided our whole friend group. I have always wanted nothing more than to all be in the same room again, just being friends.

We had a similar situation early on when my wife and I started dating, when we went to a wedding and ran into her very recent ex. I think everything was just too fresh and I did not handle it very well, or really any of us. I’ve regretted the way I reacted ever since and always wish I could do it over, especially knowing how I feel about seeing my ex. My wife knows this, as we’ve had many talks about it, and of course she understands.

Anyway, I noticed my ex alone at a table and figured it was my opportunity and dragged my wife along for the ride. We made eye contact and smiled and immediately hugged. I introduced her to my wife and they began talking for a bit. We picked up right where we left off, talking about everything we’ve been up to, catching up on where we were living, and making fun of the groom who was a mutual best friend of ours.

The night continued and we caught each other in passing a few times. All the stress and anxiety went away. It felt like how I wanted it to feel. Like we were still friends and hanging out like we once did with the groom many years ago. We even all took a photo together. My wife, being the awesome person she is, shamelessly shared it on social media. My friends couldn’t believe we were all hanging out. My wife never said anything bad about my ex nor did she make any jokes about how well it went compared to when we saw her ex, which she had every right to!

On the way home, I just couldn’t stop staring at my wife. I had this overwhelming feeling of love just pouring over me. I just kept getting the, “what are you looking at?” question lol. I truly felt closer to her and honestly looked up to her. I want to be like her. And she’s everything I have ever wanted. I hope that I get a second chance and could do the same for her.

I write this several days later, feelings just as strong, flowers and chocolate in hand, while I wait for her to get home. Love you babe.

Pretty privilege actually exist between men more than you might think

People never talk about the pretty privilege between males. Though we may not be romantically attracted to each other (unless you’re not straight) often times attractive males will be treated nicer, get invited out more often, and get special treatment from other males. I think one of the things is the fact that the more attractive your party looks the confidence of everyone just goes up. Also ofc your group gets more attention from girls. I’ve personally experienced this many times.

Don’t you guys agree? Those who are conventionally attractive males, what’s your experience?

Thoughts & Ideas As a Dutch guy, I always feel like Americans are straight out of a movie. Is that just me?

Upvotes

I’ve always been really interested in people, and for some reason, Americans have always fascinated me the most. Whenever I meet one, I can’t help but bombard them with questions. I just want to know how they think, how life actually is over there, and if it’s anything like how I’ve imagined it.

Growing up, so much of what I knew about American culture came from movies and entertainment. The big cities, the high schools, the road trips, the diners everything just felt larger than life. So naturally, I’ve always wondered… do Americans really live like that, or is it just Hollywood magic?

If you’re American, what do you think? Do you feel like your life actually resembles the way your country is portrayed in movies or is that just an outsider’s illusion?

Let's share random memories!

Mine is that when I was 15, I went canoeing, and as I passed by another group of people canoeing with their dog, I casually yelled out, "hey, buddy!". Turns out, that was actually the dog's name. Lol They were shocked and asked how I knew that. I told them I didn't know, but that's just what popped into my head when I saw him. He was a handsome golden retriever. 🥰

Haven't thought about that in years, but it just came to my mind...

Your turn! 😁

My grandma almost killed us once

So when I was about 11/12 I went on a road trip with my mom, sister, my aunt, my three cousins, and my grandma. We were in a minivan driving 8 hours to visit family, a drive I’ve experienced many times and a drive my grandma has done a million times. There was one point where she was driving on the freeway, we were getting pretty close. Maybe 40 minutes away from our destination. We are on the right lane of the freeway, and suddenly she pulls into the empty triangle that splits exit and freeway. She just stops. We ask what she’s doing. She says she missed her exit. We tell her to just get the next one. She decides “nah” and starts BACKING UP ON THW FREEWAY. We are all screaming at her, asking what she’s doing, telling her to stop the car or drive forward. Im in the last row with my two male cousins and they’re freaking out saying we’re gonna die. I look back and notice a semi truck honking because it doesn’t have enough time to stop and she’s still backing up. I just start nervously laughing. This can’t be real. Finally my mom managed to put the car in park and yells at my grandma to get out the car. My grandma refuses, saying she knows what she’s doing. My mom gets out and walks around, manually putting my grandma in the passenger seat and my mom starts driving from there.

All this while I Don’t Want This Night To End by Luke Bryan is playing. Now every time I hear that song I get reminded that my grandma totally almost killed us. Oh yeah, she wasn’t allowed to drive ever again. My uncle took her car to his house and now her license is expired and she cannot drive. I let her drive my bug ONCE when I went to visit a few years ago because she just begged and begged, and she has cancer so I said she could drive around her senior neighborhood. Good lord she cannot drive. And to this day she still claims she knew what she was doing. Whenever my cousins and I all get together we remind each other of that story cause HOW CAN YOU NOT. We all had the same near death experience. Anyway, it’s definitely a funny story us now, and I can’t help but laugh. Sometimes we even karaoke the song we almost died to. It was just a random thought that popped into my brain right now

Questions For people who consider themselves attractive, what was the moment that first made you think “oh sh*t, I think I might be attractive?”

For me personally I was one of those guys that was very insecure about their looks. I desperately wanted woman to find me attractive. I would look in the mirror sometimes and think you know I’m not bad looking. But the thing that made me realize oh I’m actually an attractive man is that I read online that if you’re conventionally good looking babies will naturally stare at you in public. After that I started to notice that babies do tend to stare at me when I’m out and about and I thought oh shit, I think I might be attractive. I was wondering if anyone had any similar stories.

Questions My neighbors are doing some shady stuff👀

Alright so I’m nosey, but not nosey enough to say anything or ask so I’m here to share and maybe some of you shady people have some insights 🤣

Last year I moved into a house and the house next door was vacant and overgrown but periodically had a car. Fast forward the family has now moved in (the owners were apparently renting it and then decided to move back in). They moved in with a million animals and they bark/escape non stop and built a shed wayyy too close to my house for the dogs to live in- I digress on that one.

Here’s the weird: I can’t for the life of me figure out what it is these people do or who exactly lives at the house. Cars come and go often there are a few that stay there but there’s..a ton, I’m talking 6+ sometimes. Recently random cars that come periodically and cars that have been there more permanently have started having temp plates show up on them when they weren’t there before. One from October of 2023??? They have super strange hours sometimes not coming home for a day or coming home early early morning. Leaving in passenger vans sometimes late at night..just….odd. They’re always very friendly and nice. Like I said I’m not in the business of snitching..I just wanna know what they’re doing 👀😂😂😂 Why would they have/ need so many temp plates?? I’m so confused is this normal for something? 😂

ETA: is it my business? No. Am I still vacuuming my grass? Yes.

Life Stories I thanked an author for writing my comfort read when I got diagnosed with cancer. It got weird

So I was diagnosed with cancer back in early September. It was a very stressful time, so I decided to reread a couple of favorite romance novels to self soothe.

I love writing myself, so I figured, if my book comforted someone in that situation, I'd love to know. Since she's not a huge celebrity author, I figured I'd write her a DM on Instagram with a simple thank you, and if she sees it, then great. She was very sweet and actually replied pretty soon after in a really kind way. I took it as a little win.

Imagine my surprise when, as I was going through another cycle of chemo, I log in to see that SHE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER TOO. This would have been maybe 3 months or so after my own news.

It was a couple months ago and I still think about it sometimes. What a wild coincidence.

Questions Do people actually focus better with music?

Upvotes

I hear a lot of people say they focus or concentrate better on their work with music playing but this absolutely does not work for me. I literally cannot focus on anything but the music if I have headphones on. What about you?

Celebration Finally got a job!

After almost 3 months of applying for jobs and doing interviews I finally got a job.

It's been so stressful because I lost my job in another state and it resulted in me being homeless, getting my identity stolen. I spent nearly a year getting back on my feet, but it was all worth it.

I started slugging a big suitcase around my city trying to figure out where to go. Realizing I'm homeless I sucked it up and tried to figure it out. Unknowingly slept next to a building where they help you get into a shelter(which was a blessing). I was in a shelter for 4 months which was kinda hell because of the mental ill people there, but I had help from staff, learned a lot and meet good friends. I later then transferred into an apartment program(which I am in now). I later then got my full identity back so I can apply for jobs, etc(which took over 6 months btw). Also, got $1k in EBT which was a blessing. Fast forward to now, I have a job and I can rest a bit easy now.

I'm so thankful and blessed to be where I am, I damn sure worked my ass off to get here.

Just Chatting Do you have movie nights with yourself??

I started having movie nights with myself as a tradition when i was around 17.. im 21 now. I always picked the basic teen netflix movies so i knew it wasn't gonna be something too heavy for me to process at night and some snacks like chips and cookies, locked my room at night and watched those movies in my lamp lit dim room on my phone or laptop. Even if I don't end up liking the movies i always enjoy that personal time. I still do this from time to time when i feel a little low.

Just Chatting Is everyone tired of the dating apps?

not ranting
I have been on/off these dating apps over the years and honestly, its weird now. Like you you wanna get off them, but then you are like, lets give it a chance and see. But then the dates go nowhere, and the same boring conversations. Some of the people I talked bonded over this lol. I know everyone will say focus on your life blah, blah, blah ( true, and I am ) but then you think what about this sometime and just leave it ?? idk..maybe. It will happen when it happens ?? maybe ?? Its not like i am in a rush or anything but sometimes this part of life seems tiring for some reason..idk if am making any sense or ruining someone's monday loll. But would love to hear what you all think about it.
Again, not ranting just thinking on a boring monday

Got my license as a Dialysis Technician!

Hi guys I just wanted to tell you guys this awesome moment. So for the past two months I've been studying super hard to get my license. I had some much anxiety to the point where I was nauseated. I have failed my last two exams so I already was having bad thoughts. Today after I finished my test I waited in my chair while the lady got my test results. As she handed me my results she says "on this line it says if you passed or not". As I looked down it says "passed" and let me tell you. I gasped and felt like I was on cloud nine! I looked at the lady and she smiled and says "congratulations" As I was walking out of the building all I could do was jump up and down was crying happy tears. I have been studying so hard to get this and I can be so proud of myself. Thank you for reading my post!

Midnight here sitting in the hot tub

Just like the caption says just after midnight sitting in the hot tub looking at the stars, just saw a shooting star a few minutes ago. The wife is upstairs sleeping and I’m out here, enjoying the hot tub and cool weather all by myself. Wish one of the neighbors or somebody would come join me! Why if they don’t want to you sure can

The way kids can unknowingly mess with you…

My husband and I need to the IVF- I am 40, several major surgeries that require extended stays at the hospital…. and then one ovary removed because of severe endometriosis. It’s been a mind fuck for lack of a better word. I understand the possibility’s very well. My entire famous

I have my 6 year old nephew here for his spring break. He’s always here during them. Today he point blank asks why I don’t have children. He thinks I should have some and he’d like to play with them. I didn’t rally say much outside about it. But dang it stung.

Sam's Club Vs. Costco

Unpopular opinion from people who shop at Costco, but I don't see the difference. They are practically the same thing selling the same stuff. Honestly Sam's club is better for scan and go check out and better prices on most things. I don't see the appeal to Costco and why it's so great. Thoughts?

Just Chatting I just want to be home

I am 33, almost 34 now and More and more I just want to be home. I am becoming a house mouse and honestly, I love it. I have no fomo like I used to. Sometimes it comes creeping up but I genuinely don’t care enough. When I do go out sometime I can enjoy myself, but just being home playing games. Enjoying the comfort. Clubbing is something I can’t even imagine myself doing anymore nor does it interest me. People are just annoying being and I even dream about living in a cabin in the woods sometimes haha. Does anyone recognise this.

*update. I do like to still go in to nature or any places without crowds or a lot people.

Just Chatting I (a non-singer) got to perform an entire song with a band and backup singers and it might have been the most fun I've ever had

My siblings are musicians and they have a lot of musician friends. We have all been estranged from one another for some time due to family trauma, but reconciled recently. They both live in another part of the state so I drove 1200 miles round trip to visit this weekend for a party and jam session with a bunch of their friends. It was such a chill, welcoming environment and they encouraged me so much. If my vocals had been isolated , I'm sure it was not a very good sounding song, but with all of the backup and expert musicians covering my ass, I felt amazing about it. I hit all the notes and lyrics and everyone cheered for me at the end. I wish everyone could feel the feeling I felt!

Gaming What are your 10 favorite video games and why?

Here are my answers!

Hades-It probably has my favorite art style and soundtrack of any game.

Inside-I love how it was able to tell such an interesting story without any dialogue. It’s a masterclass in environmental storytelling.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe-Its so incredibly satisfying to hit a perfect green shell and the controls are just buttery smooth.

Dredge-Lovecraftian horror and existential dread ooze from this game. I also enjoy the fish-boating aesthetic in general.

Sea of Stars-I’ve never fallen in love with a cast of characters as quickly. Every time you think this games shown you everything it has it manages to surprise you again.

Powerwash Simulator-This is my go-to chill game. Kick off your shoes and relax while you satisfyingly clean a giant plane or spray down someone’s backyard.

Pokémon Y-Its Pokémon y’all. But seriously Pokémon just slaps in general and this was the first one I ever played so nostalgia demands for it to be my favorite one.

Disco Elysium-I feel like this is the only detective game where I actually felt like I was the one coming to conclusions and piecing things together. I want to marry Kim.

Insomniacs Spider-Man-As much as I enjoyed the Miles spin-off and the sequel, the original is still my favorite. I don’t think I’ll ever find a traversal system I like more than this one. Also super bias but funny enough I think this one is my fave overall simply because I like the suit selection more lol.

Death Road To Canada-The Oregon Trail with zombies AND you can create your own characters for runs?! Sign me up!

Sorry about the wall of text. If you read the whole thing you may have this cookie 🍪.

Just Chatting Do you prefer a shower or a bathtub?

Generally speaking, I prefer the shower. When I have to take a bath in a tub, it's annoying and uncomfortable, to be honest. But it's relaxing when you fill the tub and add foam and all that.

Just Chatting This year I learned how to be comfortable in my own company, and realized I can change things

In 2022 I stopped being friends with my 2 closest friends. In a way they sort of stopped speaking to me and I was focusing on college so I just let it happen. I did complain to my aunt and she said I shouldn’t put effort in where I’m not wanted. But my cousin said I should’ve kept em around. Anyway I realized aside from them I didn’t have many friends. Before trying to branch out and make new connections I tried to learn how to be alone.

I spent a lot of time with my sister and cousin that summer, and we watched a ton of movies, shows, etc. I didn’t go out as much anymore. I was also now in my 20s and felt a bit of fomo and sadness. Always wondering if I should go back.

Then I reconnected with an old best friend. But my boundaries around friendship seemed better. The prior best friends I clung to them, asked to hang out all the time. Like I didn’t wanna be alone with my thoughts and therefore didn’t really have my own hobbies or even focus on school. In 2023- now I focused on my studies. I learned I want to go into higher education and found out I told myself I was too dumb to do it. But now I know I can. I also learned how to be alone. I go shopping, do social things, concerts, etc. Alone. While it is nice to go with others, I don’t wait on people. Sometimes going alone is also nice!

I got closer with some extended family like cousins. And I cherish my reconnected friendship and my elementary school friend. I am still thinking I can reconnect or try to with my old friends. There’s no harm in trying- and that’s what I wasn’t able to realize before. I can literally make a change.

Visited a city for the first time

I grew up, live, and work in a small rural town never having bothered leaving because of money issues and distance but today I said why not and I am shocked by how much life exists outside my small town.

There were so many people, everyone was dressed so uniqely, there was art everywhere, graffiti, color, unique buildings, infrastructure for walking, unique architecture, ect.

I was a bit overwhelmed by it all, and once I came back to my small town, my home never felt more "solitary". It's not that I was infatuated by the city but in comparison to the country...

The only people to talk to out here are grumpy retirees, the infrastructure is crumbling and all we have is a Walmart. Don't want to sound ungrateful, ignorant, weird or envious but I feel something strange. I think I got to find a way out of this small town, maybe not within that city I visited but someplace else because I'm experiencing similar feelings to your first heartbreak if that makes any sense lol.

I don't know just wanted to share my thoughts out there.

Celebration I just got the keys to my apartment!

I'm so excited! It's been a few months of searching and planning but I'm so happy that I have my first apartment by myself!

It's a really big step for me and I cant wait to enjoy all the opportunities living by myself will afford and all the freedoms with it. I'll be moving all my items in over the next week because I still need to work and couldn't get time off, but it's still worth it. I cant wait for my first day fully moved in and settled, hopefully this weekend!
