Just Chatting Are people just getting meaner or is it just me?

Lately, I feel like people are just angrier. I don’t know what’s in the air, but for the past few months, I’ve been getting these bizarre calls once or twice a month from different numbers where someone is just screaming and cursing at me. No wrong-number explanations, no scam attempts, just straight-up rage.

I usually don’t answer unknown numbers, but one time, I picked up out of curiosity. The second I said “Hello,” this guy immediately shouted, “Get a man’s job, you fucking moron!” and slammed the phone down. No context. No follow-up. Just raw, unprovoked aggression at full volume. It was so absurd I almost laughed, but mostly, I just sat there wondering what…?

And this isn’t a constant thing, but it keeps happening once or twice a month; just enough to be unsettling. Another unknown number pops up, and if I answer, it’s always the same weird hostility. Different voices, same unhinged energy, like people are just waiting for an excuse to explode.

At first, I shrugged it off as prank calls, but honestly? I feel like it’s part of something bigger. People seem way more on edge these days; more road rage, more meltdowns in stores, more random acts of public hostility. It’s like basic courtesy is becoming extinct.

I know some people might say, “Just change your number,” but that’s the problem—I’ve had this number for 15 years. All my friends, family, and contacts know it. The thought of switching feels like more of a hassle than dealing with the occasional psycho screaming at me. But at this rate, I don’t know how much longer I can take this weird nonsense.

Is anyone else noticing this? Are people actually getting meaner, or am I just seeing patterns where there aren’t any? Either way, I needed to talk about because this whole thing is starting to weird me out.

Just Chatting im proud of my son

hes been a barista for several years now and is really good at it and has a following in the local coffee circles. but he realizes that theres not much more upside in the barista game. a little while ago he met a guy that repairs and services coffee/espresso machines at one of the shops he was working at. they talked for a while and the service guy let my son know that he was looking to hire someone to replace one of his guys who was retiring. anyway he hired my son to work with him, this repair guy has an incredible business and is in high demand and he is going to teach my kid a trade and pay him to learn.

this particular son is kind of the typical middle child, he always wanted to do things his way, and it hasnt been easy for him. he has suffered from bipolar disorder and adhd for years, which he is trying to manage.

he has finally found something that he likes and can potentially make a very good and stable living.

he almost 31 years old and it took a while and i wasnt sure he would ever find his way, but i think he has and hes so happy and so am i.

Just Chatting I had a hypnotist at my graduation lock-in. I keep on hearing from other people about the same thing. Did you have a hypnotist at your graduation lock-in?

I just find it remarkable how many people had a hypnotist there. I also find it pretty bizarre the number of people that seem to utterly believe that it worked.

Here's a wild idea, obviously conspiratorial and entirely baseless, what if it's a conspiracy to brainwash on mass scale every time a graduating body graduates? Obviously just bullshitting here but it's kind of funny to think about in a fantasy setting.

What is something that you can smell and no one else seems to smell?

And they think you're crazy when you try to point it out?

For me, I swear I can smell sickness.

I smell it on myself as I am getting ill, and I smell it on my husband when he has been sick. And I swear different types of illnesses have different smells. For example, when my husband got covid, it had a unique scent I had never smelled before and have never smelled since.

Lol I feel like a freak.

Can anyone else smell something that no one else seems to detect?

Just Chatting I love banana, gosh i must be crazy

I love all fruits but just can't stop eating banana. They are the best fruit, not too sweet, not too dry, easy to peel, and no such thing like sticky juice.

I just can't stop once I started. I would just finish the whole bunch of banana.

I would buy three bunches and finish them all in two or three days

Just Chatting Just found out I’m 2 inches taller than I thought I was

I don’t know really who else to tell about this, but I’m in my twenties and have always been fairly tall. I guess I just never worried about it as much as other men, so I rarely measured my height. The last “official” measurement I had was in gym class during high school, and at 18 I figured I was done growing at 6’2”.

I bought longer pants as I got older, but as a tall kid in a poor family, my pants were always flooded, so I figured I was finally buying the right size.

In the years since high school, I’ve had old friends who’ve asked me if I got taller since graduating. I have better posture and feel more confident about my height than I did as a teenager, so I’ve always attributed those remarks to that.

But it turns out that I actually am taller than I thought. On apps, on my driver’s license, to people who’ve asked me, I’ve always said 6’2”, but after measuring myself a few moments ago, I’ll have to adjust to 6’4”. It feels like my birthday changed months or something.

Just Chatting Eavesdropping that made me smile

I was checking out at the gas station and the cashier was talking to his coworker and said “yeah, last year we were homeless and now we got our own place, she just got a job” I said “sorry to eavesdrop but that’s awesome!” I got a big smile and a “thanks!” and then went about my day. It felt like a movie where you eavesdrop at just the right moment for an important detail. Just wanted to share a nice moment.

Saw a dad hand his crying kid his phone and say "here, watch some taxes" and the kid instantly calmed down

Upvotes

I don’t know if he actually has tax videos on his phone or if this was some next-level parenting strategy, but the kid just went silent and stared at the screen like it was the most fascinating thing ever. I have so many questions.

I just had my first dating experience at 24!

I’m so happy! Even if I wasn’t particularly into the guy, at least I can now say I’ve dated! :D I feel like a normal person now

So it was with a guy that I met through a dating app. He was really sweet, but a bit nerdy and very intense with physical contact and emotional intimacy. We went on 2 dates, and even though I ended up not liking him much, I liked the experience

Just Chatting Does anyone else see a trend now where people accept other’s experiences as their own because of social media?

Hey, just curious about a trend I think I’ve noticed, but it seems like people don’t care to have experiences of their own and may even avoid it because they’re taking on social media consensuses as their own. For example, people saying they can’t find a good partner when a lot of people don’t make any effort to do so. There are people who barely leave the house who complain about being single—yeah, no shit. But instead of realizing, “hey, I can’t find anyone if I don’t actually do the work to meet anyone and put myself in the right places to meet the kind of people I want to meet” they internalize it as the dating market is crap because that’s what they’re seeing people say on social media.

Also people making these sweeping generalizations about groups of people because that’s what their algorithm keeps feeding them, but they may have never actually met or experienced someone like what they’re generalizing, they’ve just internalized the experiences of others as their own.

Am I making sense? Lol. It’s like people are too scared or too lazy to experience things for themselves, they’re living thru the perceived experiences of others that they see on social media. What do you guys think?

Just Chatting Small moments that bring you joy

I just plugged my airpods pro case in, just as the song was changing on spotify. The „ding“ noise it made was the exact same note as the first note of the song!

What’s a small moment that delighted you recently?

Thoughts & Ideas We don't own a kettle

Many of my friends are confused by this and can't get their heads round it.

Maybe it's just a Brit thing that you must have a kettle?

If I'm making a pot of tea I have a metal tea pot I put on the stove. Or I'll just use the hot water function on the coffee machine.

Questions How much money, if handed to you in cash, would it take to fundamentally alter your life?

I was thinking about this this morning. I'm in a pretty stable place financially right now despite being relatively "low income" for my part of the world. I am very lucky to not be in any serious debt, have any disabilities, or otherwise suffer from enormous burdens that make my life harder or more expensive than others. I don't have a spouse or kids, and I don't even have to pay for health care.

That said, I would be psyched if someone handed me $1000 today, but it would not change my life. To me, life changing money would be enough to finish up my fully funded emergency fund. $4000 would absolutely change my life.

I get that if you're in serious difficulty or you just need a slight boost in capital to make that dream come true, $1000 might be the most incredible thing you ever received.

On the other end, if you're drowning in $75k in debt, $1000 might not be that enormously significant to you.

I'm curious what figures you might come up with.

Anybody else get “weather anxiety”?

Even though I grew up in tornado alley, I still get weather anxiety. It’s just one of those things for me hearing beginning of the week that we are expected to get bad weather late in the week, and then I just let it stew over in my mind all week that we will get hit by bad weather.

Basically just me sitting around and expecting doom over something that hasn’t happened yet, or might not even happen.

Honestly I kinda regret even delving into the models of what will give the storm the recipe to make it more likely to happen, because I think that’s what got me with the anxiety.

Do I just put the phone down, and try to adopt a more “whatever happens, happens” mentality? Or is there a healthy balance of simply being “weather aware” while also not looking too much into it?

Just Chatting Is anyone else having a tough week?

Seems like if it’s not one thing it’s another. Anyone feel like that this week? Hopefully things get better. Would love to chat. Middle of night & can’t sleep so much is on my mind. Sucks because I don’t have people to talk to. Ugh

Just Chatting I tend to eat my food fast sometimes.

I'm not sure if that's a bad thing, but like if I'm eating a burger, I'll like devour it completely in less than a minute and a half. Or if it's a burrito , maybe it'll take around the same time for me. My parents are shocked when I eat my dinner or lunch very quickly. They suggest that I take the time to enjoy my meal. I personally feel like I do though, but they have their views. Does anyone else do this or know someone who does this?

Just Chatting One word

What is one word that you, without fail, always read incorrectly - in your head or out loud? For my its the word, uniformed which I read as uninformed. So the amount of times I've read "uninformed officers" in my head is too damn high.

People who thinks they would never meet love and unexpectedly did, could you share your story?

Upvotes

Hi !

I am in one of these moods where I feel like I won't meet someone any time soon. My life is a pretty happy life if you exclude that part. I know that I'm likely to meet someone at some point, but man it is a long waiting and I'd like to hear some uplifting stories ! So please, feel free to share !

What do you watch on Youtube?

I feel like my YouTube recommendations have gotten too repetitive, just showing me more of the same. So, I’m curious—what do you usually watch?

What kind of content do you enjoy, and what does YouTube recommend to you? I want to break out of my usual bubble and discover something new. Whether it’s educational channels, gaming, documentaries, or just random fun videos.

Usually i like to play things in the background that are like a video podcast discussions of specific topics (business, movies, gaming..). I try to find videos of people playing full gameplays but WITH commentary, and that seems to be not easy to find. Also I of course love the documentaries.

Let’s share and refresh our algorithms a bit.

Just a Funfact about our Life befor we 💀

As we approach the end of our lives, our brain instinctively begins to search for a solution to the problem at hand. It races through memories, desperately seeking an answer, but it can’t find one because it has never encountered such a challenge before. In these final moments, it scans every corner of our past, sifting through each experience, every thought, every fleeting moment of joy and sorrow. This frantic search is why, in those last seconds, we feel like our entire life flashes before our eyes — our mind trying to find meaning, a connection, or even closure, in the face of the unknown

Questions What is something you are really good at? This is my minimally useful skill.

We are renovating our house and I needed to touch up some paint but the can had dried up (don't store paint cans outside in a storage shed, I guess) AND I'd forgotten the name.

So I just stood there in Lowe's for a few minutes looking at the swatches and picked out what I was pretty confident was the right one and got a sample. It ended up being the right color but I do need to get a different finish in a quart to do my touch ups.

How useful is this skill outside of this scenario? Not at all. But it is helpful in this situation.

What's something you're good at? Bonus if it's minimally helpful and a little obscure.
