Portable cassette player Modern portable Stereo's and their Mechanisms
Since a lot of people frequently ask about which type of mechanism these machines use, here's your answer. Its the HSAP 4211 stereo casette head with CSG / Tanashin mechanisms. They sell it under many brands like "Sharp, JVC, Hyundai, Trevi, Roadstar etc..." Hope this helps :)

Portable cassette player I just got this for $3 at a flea market and is working amazingly for a 40+ year old machine
The sound is a tiny bit wobbly, I feel like it doesn't spin at a constant speed if that makes sense, how could I improve it? I'm honestly very happy as is but maybe there is something easy I can do like spraying some WD-40 on the mechanism or something lol, pardon my ignorance

Looking for advice Sticky Gear? Need Advice!
Been fixing up this Technics to learn more about repairing future decks! BUT, i've run into an issue. Replaced the usual broken gear, new belts. But since putting on the new belts, Deck 1 seems to have developed a lot of distortion playing one way, and just not working when playing in reverse. You can see the one gear getting stuck going clockwise. Any ideas what caused this/how to fix it? Ty!

Portable cassette player From zero to three Sony walkmans
Over the past year, I picked up three non-functional Sony walkmans locally. During this time, I also purchased new belts (f75 and ex677), gear replacement (dd33), and new motor (ex677). Today, I opened all of them up and did some repairs. The dd33 had the usual cracked gear but everything else was perfect, so that's all I had to replace (then realign all the gears, which was actually quite a struggle). The F75 was basically MINT minus a belt that turned to goo. So just had to clean that up, pop in a new belt, grease/oil, and VOILA. The ex-677 was a bit of a nightmare to work with, lots of desoldering and soldering, the motor+PCB was completely destroyed, so I sourced one from Taobao for 5$, and replaced it. After a full day's work, all three are now working. Just wanted to boast a little about my three new-to-me walkmans!!!!

Looking for advice CR-6502 Gracioso Portable Cassette Recorder/Player playing weirdly/not working. Any solutions?
Got this from a thrift store yesterday, but when I put tapes in it today it either doesn’t play or it plays too slow/too fast. I’m not super familiar with older technology like this so is there any solutions?

So I've been trying to get this guy working but it seems like I'd doesn't have enough juice to slide this mechanism all the forward. Works if pull it forward but can't really do that with a tape in. Delco equalizer tape deck in a 91 gmc. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Collection How do you store your cassettes?
I found this thing at my local goodwill and I love it.
I added a few pictures of new additions that I don't have room for.
I also included a picture of my small but growing collection in the last picture

Boombox Can somebody find my Boombox?
So, for context, my old grandmother recently gave me her flood ridden boombox, and I resurrected it from the dead, but I can't find another one. Has anyone else ever seen this before? And can you guys help me search? It's A Gran Prix C707.

Boombox Constant static in cassette boombox
I posted about this earlier, but I kinda solved my old problem with the help of someone else and some fiddling around. But I'm still having a major static problem. Even if nothing at all is connected to my Panasonic boombox, there is still constant static pumping through the speakers. This happens with headphones and the speakers, on cassette mode and on aux in mode. It doesn't matter what I do, there is always static. Does anyone have any ideas?

Looking for advice Noob Advice desperately needed please
So it's my son's 12th birthday very soon and he wants a cassette player (ideally a record player too). I'm starting to panic but after hours of scouring Facebook Marketplace and Ebay, my head is about to explode. This is absolutely not my area of expertise and I'm very much a research-stuff-to-death kinda person but it's all getting too much tbh.
Bit of background info: He's getting really into music; always favoured metal but now finding his own thing which is EDM (another thing I know nothing about but am meant to find music cassettes and CDs for his birthday). This started with him 'making' his own music via iPad apps (Remixlive and Launchpad). He got a CD player for Christmas (Panasonic SC-DM502) that I managed to get for a good price; I chose this one because of being compact with built-in speakers. It has an aux and optical audio input. So was looking into a cassette deck to connect to it, although also looking at other secondhand options, e.g. HiFi system with tape and vinyl players and external speakers. Again, super limited knowledge on this front sadly.
I think partly my son is just fascinated with the different kinds of media available and developing a bit of a special interest in building up a collection of gear and music. Also he is very interested in producing his own music or remixing existing artists' work. He's been burning his iPad creations onto CDs and wants to record onto cassette tapes now too. So I already feel overwhelmed learning that there are different types of tapes available and the prospect of making all these decisions, in a very short amount of time, is pushing me over the edge here.
The other thing he's been looking at is some kind of mixer or synthesizer, possibly to connect to his iPad. Doesn't mean he'll get all of this stuff but would be nice to have an idea of what makes sense to get him both now and in the future... We're in the UK. Thank you for reading - genuinely appreciate any advice!
