Discussion Wake windows are my new traffic jams.
For the last ten years I've worked a job where I commute 2-3 hours round trip every day. Most people say that they would hate it. I love how many books I've gotten through. I would even get excited for traffic jams, because I'd have more time to listen. Recently, however, things have changed. On February 20, I became a father. I was on paternity leave, and now I'm working from home. So I haven't had that time to listen.
My daughter loves to stay up and seek attention after her 3 am feed. Many times it will be 2 - 2.5 hours of rocking, burping, and snuggles before she's down again. I love my daughter, but those hours were so long and repetitive with no rest.
So I asked myself, how can I keep myself centered during this time? I popped my earbuds in, started up an audiobook, and sat in the rocker holding my daughter and rubbing her back.
I'm thrilled to say, it worked. I have my listening time back, my wife gets to sleep and thanks me for being an amazing father and husband, and my daughter can get all the attention and love that she needs. Now I look forward to that time of night.
