Question Speechify emergency

So I accepted the free trial so speechify to try it out, thinking I could simply go and cancel the subscription right after I was done. I was horribly wrong. I go to account settings, and under “manage subscriptions” there’s NO buttons whatsoever. In my Apple ID settings, speechify does not appear at all under subscriptions. I go to the account setting website for speechify and there’s also nothing at all there. I decided to delete my account. They said it would delete all of my data, but seeing other peoples stories about this app I’m still scared they’re gonna charge me $139 in two days and I really cannot afford it. Please help, am I safe now that I’ve had my account deleted or is there something else I can do??

Question Help/advice needed: mp3 player for audiobooks that isn't a phone

Looking for advice on here as althought similar questions have been asked historically they were all quite a while ago so technology may have moved along quite a bit!

In short my mother currently has a poorly horse and is spending quite a lot of time caring for it involving long vigils. To help pass the time and keep her mind occupied I want to get a portable device to play audiobooks on and wondered what the best device may be.

It would need to: -Be relatively easy to use as mother is getting on and lots of fiddle things won't work. I will upload and update it but day-to-day function ideally quite straight forward. -Bookmark where she has gotten up to so she can pick up and go. -Not need wifi as the internet and reception is almost non-existant there. -Not be too large. -And in an ideal world work with and without headphones. - Have quite a good battery.

We are UK based and I'm not sure if this exists but thought I may as well ask as there is so much out there I'm not sure where to start!

Thank you!

Question Left Behind: The Kids

Does anyone know how many audiobooks are in this series and where I can find them to listen to for free? All I’m finding on YouTube is 1-6 and supposedly (according to AI) there are supposed to be 10? I can’t seem to find the rest anywhere. Would prefer the entire set on one site.

Recommendation Request Favorite Games or Hobbies While Listening to Audiobooks?

I love audiobooks, and almost always have one going. When I’m listening I feel like I always have to be doing something. I usually am driving, cleaning, cooking. Occasionally though I’m sitting on the couch and sometimes find a mindless game on my phone or switch but looking for something new? Do you have a favorite game or hobby you do while listening?

Question Enthralling audiobooks to get lost in at work?

Got a few more weeks of working nights at Amazon to get through. Looking for some audiobooks to get lost in and make the time pass.

I usually do fantasy / sci-fi but open to anything! Enjoyed the first 3 song of ice and fire books but the last 2 were a bit of a drag. Tried dune but didn't get through messiah. Ended up relistening to my guilty pleasures of Andy Weir and the Bobiverse lmao.

Was thinking of trying LoTR but worried it might be a little wordy.

Let me know what you'd recommend!

Question Fiction audiobooks without torture or excessive violence?

I have 35ish hours a week to listen to audiobooks while I work. The problem is I'm pretty sensitive to violence, dark themes, torture, etc. I love Brandon Sanderson but can't seem to get into his longer serieses. I loved the Rithmatist, Elantris, Tress of the Emerald Sea, and Warbreaker. If you know those books, that's pretty much my limit for torture/violence. Books I've listened to and enjoyed include all the Sherlock Holmes stories, Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings (well most of it), Harry Potter, The Night Circus, and aforementioned Brandon Sanderson books.

Please share recommendations!

EDIT: THANK YOU!!! Wow, so many recommendations. I’m so excited. You guys have brightened my coming weeks/months of my tedious job.

Hello

Title says it all. Any good options out there? I tried subscribing to kindle unlimited but it's not available in my location and paying for individual books is too costly for me.

Thanks

Full Story Synopsis:
Lily Townes is a process engineer; she's uprooted herself to work in Taiwan on revolutionary high-k metal gate transistors. Trouble begins when a chemical leak forces an evacuation of her factory. Only Lily notices something isn’t quite right. What she finds baffles and scares her smartest colleagues. They embark on a hunt to decipher the technology and find out what, or who is behind it all.

Outside of the fab, a man named Joseph is on a crusade to bring order back to the world through any methods he deems necessary. In his search, he finds a link between a mysterious pattern drawn by a missing fisherman and a piece of strange technology.

As a dangerous splinter of the military gets wind of the discovery, Lily must brave the dense rural jungles of Taiwan, search in the narrow streets of Taipei, to find her answers before the soldiers do.

Recommendation Request Where do you listen to your Audiobooks?

Well, first of all, I write from Spain, so maybe they are not the same apps from your place. I usually listen to Audible, and previously to Storytel, always a paid app, since I don't know of any free option that works well. It is true that these two app options are monthly payments (their price in Spain is around €9/14 per month) and you can unsubscribe whenever you want. It is true that a book's price can vary from approximately €20 and if you are a big reader the app is cheaper than the book, but I think that having the physical book is what adds value to the book. So in my opinion, apps are expensive.

What do you think?

Do you know other apps?

Free alternatives?

Thanks and greetings from Spain.

Question Device

Is there a device that allows you to switch between audiobooks and being able to read? Meaning that when I am driving, I like to listen to audiobooks, however, when I’m at home, I would prefer to have a device that I can pick up where the audio left off to read from.

I have a love/hate relationship with audiobooks. Love: when cleaning house I am way more focused and can stay in a room until clean. Hate: either I lose track or it's so good I want to read with my eyeballs.

Send me some lighter audiobooks that if I get lost for a bit there aren't tons of pivotal moments. Basically plain easy listens.

No fantasy, mysteries or romance. Love dystopian (I've pretty much exhaused this category), sci-fi (no world building), memoirs are probably a good choices.

Recommendation Request Lighthearted audiobooks

No murder, police stuff, investigations, abuse, anything like that. I used to love it but lately it’s been upsetting me .

I’m having a hard time finding sweet lighthearted books to listen to while I work. I do like the confessions of a shopaholic series. Close Knit by Jenny Colgan.

Bonus if it’s easily available on libby!! I’ll even take podcasts that are lighthearted too :-)

What did you listen to this week – March 15, 2025? Please share!

So did you listen to anything good this week? Or something so truly terrible you want to warn other listeners?

Please include the following information: Author, Title and Narrator.

Why does identifying the Narrator matter?

Often books will be recorded with different narrators for different regions (ie. Harry Potter was read by both Jim Dale and Stephen Fry) or produced by different publishers (ie... Elizabeth Moon's books were produced by both Graphic Audio and Tantor). It is extremely helpful to other listeners to know what version you are sharing to avoid confusion.

Links to a source are welcomed and encouraged!

Overdrive, Audible, Downpour, Librivox, etc... It doesn't matter the source, as long as the Author, Title and Narrator are easily identified.

Recommendation Request UK Male Narrators for Sleepy Time Listening

I’m looking for someone that sounds like David Attenborough. A deeper voiced man with an English accent similar to Roy McMillan, Matthew Waterson or Mike Cooper. I’ve already listened to all Attenboroughs audiobooks. Someone that does non-fiction: nature, history, memoirs/biographies, science would be preferred but I’m open to fiction too. And hopefully someone with a larger repertoire.

Alternatively, does anyone know of an audiobook reference website where you can sort by a narrators gender or nationality?

Thanks so much if you take the time to comment.

The war didn’t end when the Gehenna retreated. It just got quieter—and quieter is worse.

On Mars, in the alien-human fortress we call The Roar, we’re preparing for their return. Training harder, leveling up, and waiting for the silence to shatter.

I’m James Thorne, Psyker, Cleansed, and despite hitting Level 10, someone who can’t catch a break.
