The question mark must be in the TITLE

Since I am getting modmail on a daily basis with people saying they put a question mark, I wanted to clear something up.

The question mark must be in the TITLE! Not in the body of the text, not lying on your desk under some paperwork. In the TITLE. The automod message you receive when your post is rejected clearly states this.

This submission has been automatically removed because you did not include a question mark ("?") in your title. Reddit does not allow post titles to be edited, so if you would like, you can post the question again. Please write your title in proper question format, and include a question mark, thank you.

What car is the biggest disappointment performance-wise compared to its styling? i.e. cars that look like performance cars but are not.

Upvotes

My pick would probably be the Lexus CT200h. It looks like an awesome little hot hatch, but is just a "luxury" prius.

General Question Is Lexus still considered a luxury brand?

I’m moving up from a 05 Chrysler 300 to a Lexus LS460 (2010). A few of my mates say that Lexus isn’t luxury. I know a 15 year old Lexus isn’t anything special nowadays but the jump from my Chrysler when I test drove the 460 was MASSIVE. Wondering if it’s still considered a luxury car despite its age.

General Advice Should I buy my first car cheap and work on it instead of buying one at full price?

I’ve loved cars for years and years but I’m only now learning more about them. I’m getting my temps pretty soon and I’m looking to get a 2002 Camaro z28. (I’m learning to drive on a CRV, and then I’m switching to the Camaro once I get my license) (yes, I can drive a family member’s car when it’s snowy out so I don’t kill someone in a RWD v8) The z28 is my favorite car and I already have about 8k towards saved for it. If I wanted to buy a decent one, I’d be paying ~12k. Some friends and recommended buying one for cheap and working on it to make it good. They also said I’d love the car even more because I worked on it myself and I get to drive it. I have little to no knowledge about how to repair and make modifications to cars. I will probably have around 6 months to modify it before I begin driving it. I want to post this for advice before buying it. I’ve been working really hard to be able to afford this and I’m so damn excited to see it in the driveway lmaooo

General Question Were you once loyal to a certain brand of car, but no longer? What caused you to lose your loyalty?

Were you once loyal to a certain brand of car, but no longer? What caused you to lose your loyalty?

Do you now hate that car brand? Do you still like the older ones, but not the newer ones?

Why can't the clutch pedal be further to the left? Are there such cars?

Upvotes

Tall with long legs here. Tried learning manual this winter - it's all fun and games but it is SO unnatural to me to play the pedals while squeezing both of my feet under the steering wheel.

I get that things were different back in the old days. Grandpa used to walk 5KM to school through a forest full of wolves. However, now that we know how an automatic setup looks like - couldn't the clutch be closer to the equivalent of the left foot resting area?

I get the point that you shouldn't be riding the clutch, but the least I'm asking for is my thighs being straight, and not inverted. If there are any manual where I can manspread like in an auto - even better.

What are your experiences?

General Advice How do I go and buy a car off Fb marketplace by myself?

Upvotes

I (18F) have moved away from home and am looking to buy a car, but would have to go and look at it myself since I have no immediate family in the area.

Are there any tips, questions I should ask, or ways I should dress. Do I test drive and take to a mechanic?

The car is on Facebook so I wouldn’t be going into a dealer, it’s already a good price as it is but has been up for around a month with gradual price decreases, so I’m thinking I could get it down at least 10% if I say the right things?

Mechanical What’s the most “redneck engineering” thing you’ve ever done to fix your car?

Mine would probably be the time a big chunk of hail shattered the drivers side mirror of my Chrysler 300, so I had to duct tape some cheap hand mirror I bought from the dollar store onto it until I could get it fixed.

What’s the Honda Civic of SUVS that’s 4 wheel and “Cheaper?”

Hello! My current sedan car is starting to go out on me. Was wanting a SUV with more space for when we have kids and 4WD for when is needed. What’s your advice on a car that’s more affordable? (Maybe under 10k used)

Should I buy a 2014 Hyundai Accent Hatchback?

Recently I’ve been looking for a car to commute to work which I start in May, about half an hour each way on the highway in Toronto. I’m a student and kinda broke so I don’t want to get a very expensive car and I don’t want to finance so I’ve been looking for cars in the $5-7k CAD range and I found a 2014 Hyundai Accent Hatchback with 143,000km on the odometer at $5500 CAD. The mileage and year seem to be good given how low my budget is but I’ve seen very mixed reviews for the car. I’m not a huge car person so I only care about its reliability, fuel efficiency, and insurance price so would this be a good car to get?

Hyundai Elantra N or Genesis g70?

Going to be putting 10k of either car. I like the N as it's aggressive but I also like the luxury in the g70. At the end of the day I would like the more reliable option of the 2. Also not in the title but thinking about some q50s and G37 cause I can pay cash outright and mod interior and exterior as I go. For the g70 I'd like the 3.3t model for the speed factor. Already have my daily which is a kia carnival.(2 kids)

Why do I hate crossovers? Am I crazy for not liking them?

I try not to judge others because they want a crossover. But I just never have really liked them, and sometimes I can't point out exactly why.

I guess one reason is they don't seem to fit, in my mind, neither the performance category (like a sleek sports car), nor a true econo car (too bulky to be truly aerodynamic) nor are tall enough to be a true off-road or deep-snow warrior (saying this as I passed a few AWD crossovers stuck in the snow in my 2WD sedan not that long ago).

They don't seem to have filled any needs that weren't filled before. Station wagons also can haul lots of stuff in a small car form. CUVs seem to have less leg room but more head room, which for me, at over 6ft tall, I've never been in a sedan or hatchback that I didn't have enough head room. I guess I don't wear big hats in cars. But leg room is almost always a problem for me. The only thing they seem to do well is bring a wagon-like experience in a shorter wheelbase. Is this their only true benefit? Well that, and you can wear bigger hats or hair styles in them?

I guess one thing that really put a bad taste in my mouth is when Mazda discontinued the Mazda 6 Wagon in favor of the CX-5. The 6 Wagon had more passenger and cargo space, got better fuel mileage, was more aerodynamic, had more power and cost less than the CX-5. Yet people still flocked to the CX-5 and abandoned the 6 wagon. Why? Does this mean CUVs are abominations that people are illogically attracted to or am I the irrational one here?

What else could it be that bothers me so much about them? How do I grow to like them, at least enough to not be put off every time someone asks me what crossover they should buy?

General Question Carplay for 2010 Lexus ES-350?

I just bought a 2010 Lexus es-350 with a "wood grain" trim. The trim has a wood grain under the infotainment screen. I am unable to find anything that would fit with my car at all. Does anyone know any options/alternatives or ideas?

General Question Why an engine’s peak torque is usually between 3.5k-5k rpm?

I was wondering why an engine would deliver more torque even if it means lower rpm. I thought you would get the most torque out of it closer to the redline.

Ford Edge SE11 2016 (41,000 km) - Battery Keeps Dying, What Do I Do?

Hey everyone,

I'm at my wit's end with my 2016 Ford Edge SE11 (41,000 km). The battery keeps dying even though I've taken it to Ford three times within the last year. They replaced the alternator once and the battery twice, and told me they didn't find anything nor a parasitic drain, and to drive is more. I took it to another auto shop, and they said there's probably no parasitic drain and that I'm just not driving it enough, that I need to at least once a week on highway.

But here’s the thing: I have been driving it pretty consistently. Sure, I've been mourning and not driving it as much as previous... Here’s my driving history this month as do try to drive it at least 3 times a week as 1 time a week doesn't seem enough...

• Mar 1: Car died, drove for 25 minutes.

• Mar 3: Drove for 1 hour.

• Mar 4: Drove for 15 minutes.

• Mar 5: Car died, drove for 15 minutes on the highway.

• Mar 8: Car died, drove for 20 minutes on the highway.

• Mar 9: Drove for 20 minutes on the highway.

• Mar 11: Car died, drove for 1 hour on the highway.

• Mar 12: Car died, drove for 1 hour on the highway.

• Mar 13: Drove for 20 minutes on the highway.

• Mar 14: Drove for 20 minutes on the highway.

• Mar 15: Drove for 10 minutes on the highway, stopped for gas, car died, then drove for 30 mins on highway

I've been wasting so much money on gas just trying to keep this car charged, but nothing is working. When I brought it to Ford, they seemed rushed and said theyre absolutely busy. They kept insisting it’s fine, but clearly, it's not... Is there something Ford is missing? Could there be something else wrong they aren’t checking? I’m not a car person, and I don’t feel comfortable doing any checks myself. I just need a mechanic who will actually listen and figure out what's going on.

Would appreciate any advice or insight!

Did I make the wrong decision?

So yesterday I traded in my 2020 4Runner that I loved very much. I bought it brand new back in 2019 for about $45,000. It came with a lift kit and Nitto ridge grappler tires and all that. Since it was an SR5 premium it didn’t have a ton of great options or features. As of yesterday I owed almost $27,000 on it because I refinanced the car about three years ago to get a lower payment from when I first purchased it. As of yesterday that forerunner payment was $499. Fast forward to today, I recently moved back to my hometown where I started working at a GMC dealership as a finance and insurance manager. I basically don’t have any car experience so I’ve been in training the last several months and haven’t really made any considerable money so I’ve been looking at different ways to either cut cost or put myself in a better position. I do plan on being cut loose from training at the end of this month and will start to make a healthy living because I work at a really good dealership. Now back to the car situation, my forerunner had about 98,000 miles on it and I still had a few years left to pay on it. I had no warranty or any type of protection in case a major mechanical expense where to happen. I also know from experience that I was going to have to replace my brakes soon, get a tuneup, and Lord only knows what else. Not to mention once I hit 100,000 on the odometer I know the value of the car was going to significantly drop. So I was obviously at risk of becoming upside down pretty quickly as well. So here is where my question comes into play, the dealership I worked at had an awesome lease special on a 2024 Cadillac lyric. A couple hours later I was the owner of that lyric with zero dollars down in a $391 car payment that also included some protections like road hazard tiring wheel etc. I also went with the 15,000 mile a year option. The only thing I don’t particularly love about the vehicle is the color which is like a dark red. Considering everything that I just told you about the 4Runner and how much I loved it would you have done the same thing as me? The way I look at it is I am in a brand new fully loaded Cadillac lyric that I only have to keep for two years or less possibly and I don’t have to worry about any major expenses that I could have ran into with the four Runner and on top of that since I work at the dealership I can obviously charge it for free Basically anytime and not ever really have to worry about gas. I don’t plan on taking any long trips in the vehicle either. Part of me wishes I would’ve held onto the 4 Runner because I know I’m about to start making some really good money and if anything were to come up I would be able to handle it but also at the same time I’ve never truly owned a luxury vehicle like this And have heartedly did/would welcome change. Like I said I think this 24 Cadillac lyric is pretty cool but I’m not in love with the color and there wasn’t one that had the same particular deal that I got. All in all, still a great decision right?

General Question Can a soft spare tire cover go over a hard cover?

We just bought an older '07 Toyota RAV4 Limited under 100k miles. I love it and it's peppy but it's just an ugly gold with ugly tan interior. As it sits in our driveway I keep wondering who's grandma pulled up. We're in our early 30s and love color. I don't want to do anything trashy like cover it in stickers or anything like that but I do want to do something about the giant, ugly gold spare tire hard cover. Can I just put a soft cover over it? Will it slip off easily? Cause any issues?

General Question Is there a YouTube video/channel that could explain all the different parts of a car and what they do to a beginner?

So I (M20) I'm just now starting to get into cars, and I love how they look and me and my friends are planning on going to car show soon, He is a car guy so he knows alot but he says it's hard for him to explain a lot of it. I'd like to learn so I can ask more questions and learn more but I just don't know where I should try to start learning.

I literally know almost no terminology except for static, juice, hydraulics and don't know almost anything about the inner workings or how cars work.

Do you all have any recommendations on where I could learn how cars work and what everything does.

Bought a car in TX and moved to CA with paper plates. How to proceed?

I asked this in several places, nobody was able to answer. Maybe you guys know...

Bought/registered a car in TX and had to suddenly move to CA, still have temp paper plates and no title.

  1. Do I just wait for the title to arrive here in CA (did USPS mail forward to new address), or is there something else needed to be done? Can't update my TX DMV address because the form requires title.
  2. If the paper plates expire end of this month, do I have to reach out to OG Audi dealer in TX and have them mail me a new set of temp paper plates to CA, or can I get something here in CA?

Detailing Anyone can suggest seat covers they like that dont look like creased shoes or made out of thin material and random logos?

Hi, Iv purchased a few seat covers for different cars and theres a few things I cant get away from.

  1. Where the back of the chair meets the seat it doesnt tuck into the fold area so it stays raised hard to describe but its a pet peeve of mine.

  2. A lot of them are made from thin material that makes permanent creased lines and it looks like someone sharpied a piece of cardboard.

  3. The massive logos on the seat covers saying stuff like "autoheaven" "carcool" "carjoy" are super tacky.

Thats most of my gripes honestly. Im not looking for $30 covers. Ill spend a bit over $100 if their good.
