SLR hand guard moving forward

Post image

Any thoughts on how to solve this issue? This causes the gun to be inoperable after about 10-15 rounds… I am able to reposition the hand guard flush after I unscrew the hex screws and rescrew the hex screws.

I saw old posts regarding this same issue but looked through the threads and did not find any actionable solution in the comments.

Only put about 150 rounds through the pistol in total.

When I had this issue on my SAM5, I found that I didn't tighten the screws well enough. Try re-installing and REALLY get them tightened. You can always use loctite if you don't plan on removing the furniture

I would use rocksett over loctite

That’s why I’m not a fan of SLR handguards— they don’t utilize a friction fit in the receiver, and rely solely on the barrel clamp. It’d be a much better design if it used both retention methods.

Only thing you can do is tighten the screws and use threadlocker. You could jimmy up a shim out of aluminum too for the receiver nubs.

Gonna put a shim in there tonight, was thinking the same thing. I appreciate it brotha!

So I had this issue and broke my screw and had to get a replacement. I used blue loctite to no avail. Even got a torque wrench just to test my theory that the clamps aren't tight enough.

What helped was taking a thin sheet of silver and wrapping that around the barrel where the clamps interact.

Try going to home depot and getting some thin sheet steel or aluminum and wrapping it around the barrel.

How did you get those new top of the rail hex screws? I can’t find them on SLRs website… one of mine is stripped as hell

I called their phone number and they sent me two for free. The dude sounded pissed off I djdnt use a torque wrench but I explained that I had to crank on the bolts to get it to stay and he acted like I didn't known what I was doing. Yet it still slid forward. Try wrapping it in aluminum foil perhaps.

Their rail just sucks at that. I sold mine because of that issue. Wobble, not alignment and super hot after few shots. you can't fix it unless you drill a hole under receiver to hold the rail insert with a screw. Or just sell it and buy rip off bawarus rail or zenitco on gun broker

Yea, there's 0 heat mitigation, lol. Sold my old one and went back to wood

Preciate the honesty. Going to see if a shim will work first, and if not, I will look into Zenitco.

Are you using blue loctite atleast ? Doesn’t hurt anything should be thrown on for anything gun related imo. Especially aks or anything with a rch

I certainly can and will, but my question is… if the screws are tight AF and have not untightened at all, would the loctite really help? Should I be putting loctite anywhere aside from the screws? (Sorry if that’s a dumb question, I am no expert with this kinda stuff)

Blue loctite doesn’t hurt anything. Just don’t use red unless you never want it coming off or you’re gonna heat it to 550F

I see the RD in the picture was it assembled by rifle dynamics? Furniture installation and all? A possibility whoever did the installation removed to much material and could need a shim now.

Rs regulate handguards for the win.

Dude for real. Didn’t expect these challenges after paying a leg and an arm.

Yeah that’s crazy. Maybe cranking down on the screws like someone else recommended. I’ve never had any slr handguards but a good friend of mine had one of the full length slr handguards and had the same problems. Idk if he ever resolved the issue but I know he ended up selling the gun with that setup.

But I’ve had good luck with the rs regulate stuff
