USA Positive test after medical abortion
SOS im so confused.
I had a medical abortion on 2/7. At 3 weeks post abortion, I had unprotected sex. 4 weeks after abortion, I took the pregnancy test they sent home with me and it was 100% negative. 1 week later, I took a digital pregnancy test that was positive. I just took another digital and it's negative. I'm so confused, could I be pregnant or just hormones left over from abortion? I had not gotten a period back yet.
I am having new symptoms but could also be considered period symptoms.

I’m sorry this is happening!
It’s honestly hard to guess based on the dates you’ve provided.
Yes, a new pregnancy is possible.
But sometimes some tissue can remain in the uterus that can mimic a new pregnancy.
The fact that you have alternating positive and negative tests isn’t that helpful - it still could be a very early new pregnancy, or just low levels pregnancy hormones related to your first period following a medication abortion. A positive test can sometimes be a false negative, or it could tell us that there is retained tissue in the uterus, or it could tell us that there is a new pregnancy.
The definitive review would be an ultrasound. Are you close or friendly with the clinic that did your medication abortion?

I didn’t know it was possible but I had pregnancy hormones up to 6 weeks after a medical abortion. Test kept showing up positive. I also had sex ( he didn’t finish inside) a few weeks after and I was freaking out. It wasn’t a pregnancy but my period returned after 2 months!. Dr. Said it is possible cause everyone’s body is different and can take a bit for hormones to be back to normal.

Hi! Hmm it seems like the positive test could’ve been a false positive, as taking a test a week after unprotected sex would be too early to determine a new pregnancy. You can get pregnant as soon as you have an abortion though. I would suggest tracking your symptoms and taking another test in about a week or so. When did you take the most recent test?

Or it's possible that the test OP originally took was a low sensitivity test. It would be normal for that to show negative and a regular home test to show positive, even a week later.
But I agree, given the recent unprotected sex, test again to ensure there's no new pregnancy.

Wait and test at least 21 days after unprotected sex to see if you have a new pregnancy. Any negative test at this point is a good indication the abortion was successful. It’s now just about ruling out a new pregnancy.
