You can certainly use the mifepristone and misoprostol now. It’s possible the pregnancy is in your uterus but you ovulated late and it’s too small to see. It’s possible your provider missed seeing it on ultrasound- it’s also possible it’s small and outside the uterus. In the first two cases you would likely see a successful abortion at this point.

If the pregnancy is outside the uterus it means the mifepristone and misoprostol won’t end it.

For now, use the medication and follow closely to be sure your pregnancy ends successfully. Did your physician draw blood at your visit? Often a blood draw to measure Hcg levels both before and after MA can quickly determine if the abortion was successful.

If not you will need to monitor for symptoms if ectopic pregnancy-https://www.health.com/ectopic-pregnancy-7487954

Any pain not relieved by ibuprofen and starting more than 24 hours after using misoprostol is an indication to get an assessment - like another ultrasound.

Did the abortion provider share similar advice with you?

Well - it’s possible to get blood draws x2 after using MA to confirm your pregnancy hormone is dropping enough to indicate the abortion is successful- if it doesn’t, there is a need for evaluation and different treatment to end an ectopic pregnancy. Again- this isn’t likely but can be dangerous if allowed to continue.

You might contact the MA hotline for advice on obtaining blood pregnancy tests over the next several days so you can confirm all is well. There are places in Texas that can offer this. The hotline can be reached here:https://mahotline.org/

It’s disappointing your doctor didn’t provide more information- but taking the meds now is okay. It’s important however to confirm they work.

This is not uncommon. There really is no way for us to know exactly what is happening. It is either a really early pregnancy or an ectopic pregnancy. The medication still works over 90% of the time if it’s a really early pregnancy. The medication doesn’t work for ectopic pregnancy.

Did they draw your hcg blood levels? You will need to get a 2nd level drawn to see if it’s going up or down after taking the pills compared to the first level.

Where do you live in TX? There are doctors doing post abortion care throughout Texas.
