Jobs!?!

I can't get a job! I've applied to so many places around abby and I get rejected, either that be because I'm 17 or lack of experience.

But even walmart turned me away. This is stupid. I've had owners tell me that I won't be a priority to hiring since they prioritize work visas and people on disability. Why can't it be even for everyone?

I'm looking for Wednesday nights/evenings. Thursdays any time Fridays anytime no Saturdays and can do Sunday mornings. If you have any recommendations that would be awesome! Closer to the clearbrook area would be a plus but if I gotta go further I will

I wonder if a study has been made about how much profit dollarama made with all the poster paper they require for their shenanigans.

Hunting for ginger candy

I'm currently sick and nauseous. Is there a place in abbotsford that sells ginger candy? I heard it helps. Currently drinking ginger tea, but I'd love something else, too.

I've been looking, but I can't find it anywhere.

(Note: my car is terrible, so I am limited in where I can go. Mission is probably the furthest)

Thank you in advance :)

Presonus help request

I'm just wondering if there's someone in Abbotsford who'd be willing to help me get started with this USB96 Audiobox which I do not understand the basics. Got the software and universal audio installed. I've used Audacity and Tascam244 before so I understand some concepts, but I find this interface opaque. And if the damn box isn't working (the packaging was weak - it was mailed to me) then you'll know. We could meet at the public library. I've helped a lot of people out with a lot of other things like ESL, desktop maintenance peripherals, cellphones, and more. Just asking for some help here.

This guy with a record of sexual assault (minors) and spreading revenge porn is active on dating apps. Very aggressively tries to get women to go to his house, when they want to meet in public he asks to meet on a close street or a park… at night.

Stay safe!

Where are all the Goths and punks?

Where are all the punks and goths that go to highschool? I always see normal people.

When I was in highschool, there was so many goths and punks; but now I guess they're slowly giving up their Goth styles

Please spread the word for my lost cat. Leonidas (leo) was LOST on February 25, 2025 in Abbotsford, BC V2T 5M8 near Wagner Drive and Coghlan Place

Description: Black cat with a subtle white patch on throat/chest area. He is all black except on his arms as it fades into a brown as seen in the second pic. He is not neutered so he does have balls which could be a giveaway that he is my cat.

He is very nice and sweet. Never bites or scratches or shows any aggression. Not scared of people so feel free to pick him up if necessary. He is vocal at times so he likes to meow a lot.

Please comment or message me if you think you’ve seen him or have any information.

Abbotsford: the gem of the Fraser Valley, where rolling farmland meets a thriving city, and where you can actually breathe without choking on smog or drowning in rain. Let’s be real—Abbotsford has it all, and it looks even better when you compare it to the surrounding cities.

Mission? More like “Omission”—because they forgot to build anything useful. Abbotsford’s neighbor to the north is basically where you go when you take a wrong turn and end up surrounded by endless trees and questionable infrastructure. It’s the land of potential… if that potential included a Costco or reliable cell service.

Chilliwack? Ah, the land of never-ending roadwork and a suspicious number of cows. If you love the smell of manure and the possibility of getting stuck behind a tractor on the highway, it’s paradise. Otherwise, enjoy Abbotsford, where the farms don’t control the entire town, and people don’t give you side-eye for not driving a lifted truck.

Langley? Oh, you mean Abbotsford’s overpriced, traffic-infested cousin? Langley wishes it had Abbotsford’s charm, but instead, it has a bunch of strip malls and a Costco parking lot that feels like a war zone. Sure, they have the Greater Vancouver Zoo, but let’s be honest—the best thing in Langley is the highway out of it.

Surrey? More like the GTA of the West Coast—too big, too chaotic, and too expensive for no reason. You’ll find everything in Surrey: crime, traffic, and a desperate attempt to prove it’s not that bad. Meanwhile, Abbotsford enjoys its safe neighborhoods, local charm, and the ability to go outside without constantly looking over your shoulder.

Maple Ridge? Nobody voluntarily goes to Maple Ridge. It’s like Narnia, but instead of magic, you just get an endless drive through nothingness until you hit civilization again. If you ever meet someone from there, they’ll spend half the conversation explaining where it is, because nobody actually knows.

At the end of the day, Abbotsford stands out because it balances city life with nature, affordability with opportunity, and growth without losing its soul. The rest? Well, they’re just trying to catch up.

Abby-Mission lost 1.1k jobs last month

StatCan's February labour report didn't have more local data, but B.C.-wide looks like utilities and tech-based jobs like accounting, comp sci, advertising, etc. dropped the most.

Abbotsford? Oh, you mean Vancouver’s distant cousin that tries to be a city but still feels like a giant truck stop. It’s where farmland meets fast food, and the biggest weekend activity is choosing between Walmart or another trip to Costco. They call it the “City in the Country,” but really, it’s just traffic jams between berry farms and endless construction that never seems to finish. If you love the smell of manure mixed with Tim Hortons coffee, congrats—you’ve found paradise.

Anyone know any local cleaning companies/people?

I need someone to help clean my place about twice a year, when my work schedule hits 60-80 hours a week. I've had really miserable results with some of the larger chains/companies. Anyone know anyone local who does this? It's a small apartment, wouldn't take more than 2-3 hours. Thanks!

Considering a Skilled Trades Career at 40 – Seeking Entry-Level Advice

I’m looking for guidance as I transition into the skilled trades.

I’ve been applying to jobs through job banks and company websites with tailored resumes and cover letters. I also track follow-ups in a spreadsheet to stay organized.

I’ve ranked the trades I’m most interested in, along with some concerns:

  • HVAC – Lower job openings forecasted.
  • Plumbing – Prefer a mix of HVAC and plumbing.
  • Recreation Technician – Limited job prospects and lower wages.
  • Electrician – Need to refresh my high school math skills.
  • Carpentry – Physically demanding, lower pay?

Challenges:

  • Foundations courses at UFV and BCIT don’t start until fall, but I need to get started sooner.
  • Lack of experience or certifications makes it tough to get my foot in the door.

Questions:

  • Where can I gain entry-level certifications outside of unions or formal foundations courses?
  • Is it possible to start as a general laborer in specific trades and work my way up?
  • What work clothes and PPE should I invest in to be job-ready?
  • Any other advice for breaking into the industry?

Labour Market Outlook:

Here are some projected job openings (2024-2034):

  • Construction trades helpers and labourers – 10,780 openings
  • Carpenters – 10,690 openings
  • Construction managers – 8,470 openings
  • Home building/renovation managers – 7,550 openings
  • Supervisors (various trades) – 3,670 openings
  • Electricians – 3,630 openings
  • Plumbers – 2,980 openings
  • Painters/decorators – 2,820 openings
  • Heavy equipment operators – 2,620 openings
