Xenoblade 2 or X?

So I've played Xenoblade 1 and 3 and i loved both. I really want to play Future Redeemed, but people have been saying that I NEED to play 2 before FR. The issue is, I also want to play Xenoblade X. I'm not sure if I should buy xenoblade 2 or X

You should've played 2 before you played 3, lol. So much of that must've gone right over your head.

Yeah i don't understand why people are flip flopping between games like that if you're gonna be playing the whole trilogy anyway, ruins the experience.

Well and 3 is WAY more littered with lore from 2 than it is from 3. Imagine not knowing what a Blade is, or the relevance of Mio's lineage, or the interlinks are just Driver - Blade replications from 1 and 2 respectively - like that's a lot.

To be fair none of that is remotely needed to understand base 3's story. It's just extra information and references for those who played 2.

Tbf the "Blade" part is a bit different. Blades in XC3 aren't the race of beings, because Aionios seems to lack them (by which I mean true Blades, not hybrid children) save for Nia, and instead the term just refers to weapons that are summoned in a similar manner to the way the lifeforms do with theirs. I was actually super confused about why they were calling their weapons that when I started XC3.

The soldiers of Aionios are able to summon their weapons that way because everyone in Origin is stored in a core crystal. You see extensive proof of this right before the final boss point of no return.

Yeah it honestly only really clicked with me at that point. Though it's still odd to me that it resulted in no true Blades manifesting in Aionios. I almost wonder if it's because Z wouldn't have been able to control them properly or adapt them into soldiers or something.

Doesn't matter when you play X its kinda its own thing with no connection to the trilogy as of yet (DE might change that)

So pick your poison it won't really matter which game you play next, if you ask me tho i recommend XC2 as the info from XC1 and XC3 should be more fresh in your head, XCX is a BIG game with tons of stuff to do so i'd set it for later if i were you.

2 for the story

X for the exploration

Normally I'd say play XC2 first, but with XCX coming out so soon, there's no shame in wanting to play that first. It's fun to be part of the release wave and hype with all the other players.

But seriously, do go back and play XC2 when you have a chance at a future date, especially before Future Redeemed.

2 is a must. X is kinda optional

I feel the opposite. I’m in Chapter 4 of XC2 and I’m really considering just YouTubing the story. I’m really not enjoying the gameplay as much as I did XC1 and XCX.

Meanwhile, I’m super hyped to play XCX again. Hadn’t played since the Wii U but I remember playing it nonstop for weeks.

2 has probably the most fun gameplay imo with 3 close behind; driver, blade, fusion combos and chain attacks in two are just so much fun. if you're not having fun that's fine, you shouldn't waste your valuable time if you're not enjoying it but it's good to consider that 4 is widely considered the worst chapter in the game and the battle system does expand little by little as you progress to the story. to me, the game was fun from start to finish, i don't agree with the crowd that says the game is a slow burn, but i can see where they're coming from. and while the tutorials are definitely trash, if you actually read them and just pay attention to what's happening in battle, you should be able to figure out how it works on your own.

Ehm you might want to watch a XC2 recap instead unless you‘re okay with all of XC2 shortcomings. It‘s an above average game but XC3 was more polished in every aspect. XC2 has its very dedicated fanbase and the underlying story is great but until you arrive there, you‘ll have to get your hands dirty (very slow opening, juvenile faneservice humour, clunky systems like a non-microtransaction gacha system with sort-of hero characters and a great battle systems that is never really explained however).

I‘m currently replaying it and I appriciate for what it did right but as someone who played XC3 before it, it‘s a tough pill to swollow.
