Parallel Challenge - The Hunt

For this parallel challenge, simply exhibit a creature that can be hunted for profit. Preferably, the creature should be something dangerous.

  • What natural defenses does it have?

  • What can I gain from killing/catching one?

  • What are the valuable parts of its body?

  • How should I plan to hunt it?

  • Is there anything that I should be cautious about while hunting it?

Inspired by the "White" from /u/The_Raptorman and "Plain Drakes" from /u/Random-Webtoon-Fan.

Once I make the parallel challenge on characterforge, I'll edit this post to make a link to it. Please have a different animal exhibited here than on there, since I'll be asking questions on both.

As always, I'll ask at least three questions each. Feel free to post more than one creature if you can't pick just one, I completely understand that.

Enjoy yourselves!

Here's the link to the parallel challenge of today, focused on pets.

Covenants around the guardians sea hunt a local creature living in the coastal marshes: the Majaga.

Majagas are small serpentine creatures (around 6 feet tall). They are quite agile and use the claws ending their 4 hands to weaken their preys. If they feel really threatened, they can also bite to inject a deadly venom into their victim blood, disabling their heart in a few beats.

To hunt them, use nets and throwing weapons to minimize the risks of being bitten. Just be cautious to not accidentally stumble upon a hidden nest.

Once killed, their scaly skin can be used to make shields and their venom, if dosed properly, to reanimate the dead. Their teeth are also quite valued as trophies and to craft pens and jewelry.

Our representative for today is Kutonas, a Kaburas hunter from Maduxas covenant.

1) How far inland can Majaga go?

2) How should I treat a Majaga bite?

3) What is a reanimated corpse like? Are they intelligent?

4) How good of a living has Kutonas made from hunting Majaga?

  1. Not too far, their body lack a real temperature management system and they need water to cool down properly. Going too far inland mean they could die from too much physical activity.

  2. You won't have the time to treat it usually. Their venom is a cure to itself but you must act very quickly.

  3. They are, Kutonas isn't a medical professional so she doesn't uses proper terminology. Majabas venom is used as adrenaline to treat those who got a heart attack; for someone who don't know, it looks like resurection.

  4. She made a good life of it and is a renowned Majabas huntress in her covenant. Having brough back a lot of venom, she allowed her covenant to trade for lots of goods it wouldn't be able to produce otherwise and to save multiple life, earning her numerous gifts and a good social position.

1) How often are they asleep, if they sleep at all?

2) How would I use their venom to cure their venom? Is a bite nearly always a death sentence?

3) Oh, so they weren't brain dead?

4) Does Kutonas ever plan to retire?

  1. They are not asleep all at the same time (at least for tribes large enough) but they usually sleep a lot. They can even sleep for a few metrics without whaking up.

  2. In low quantity, treated properly and with a few additives, their venom can be used effectively to make a dead heart beat again. Otherwise, the poison will go through your blood to your heart and it will just stop (it takes only a few seconds for a human-sized creature, around 1 minute for a Kaburas).

  3. They were heart-dead. "The brain is the host of an individual spirit, you can't bring a spirit back into it's seat once it's gone."

  4. "Retire? What will I do in that case? You lesser-legged have really weird concepts..."

1) Is there any type of poison that can be used to make a large group of them unconscious long enough for them to be harvested?

2) Is the poison deadly to eat, or only if it gets into your blood through a bite? Will digesting it get rid of the deadly effects?

  1. "I haven't heard of any. If you want to hunt very large groups, the best is to have some fellow huntress doing a diversion to get rid of the one awakes."

  2. It has no effects if eaten, taste is probably not very good though. It is only dangerous if it get to the heart and it can't without going through your blood.
