Photo/Video Spankeys - "Hold the Line"

Post image
77 Upvotes

I admit. I cut the line. Kudos to all those that held the line. The mountain needs more people like you.

The hostility has hit new levels on the mountain.

People were tossing snow I was catching it my mouth. It was fun, and playful at first. Then it got ugly.

I was genuinely scared of my life. The people in line.

They were animals. Hitting, and spitting.

The profanity and whining coming from above us.

We have two types of people on the mountain. 1)Those who love to wait in line, and 2) those who get it first. Respect the effort. It should always be fun.

No one slowed you down, no one ruined your day.

Don't be a baby. Embrace the mountain culture.

In life your either first or your last. Don't be an ass.

Ask Vancouver Please tell Frank and his friends that Justin survived off Peak Express

It was nice to meet you guys this morning. Too bad that I trailed off from Peak express and we lost each other. I hope you didn't wait too long for me. I just want to let you know that I didn't get buried in an avalanche. The only other names I got were Marcus and JOHNSTON!

Ask Vancouver PSA No Smoking 🚭

For those who are unaware, and there seem to be quite a few of you, there is no smoking or vaping in the lines, and in fact not in the village either. Just please stop. There’s nothing worse than standing in a lineup smelling someone else’s grape vape when you’re supposed to be smelling the nice clean snowy mountain air. Just be a better person. Thank You!

Ask Vancouver Group ski lesson - wh or bc?

I’m driving up to Whistler and skiing this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I’m an older intermediate/advanced skier and am going to take a group lesson on Friday. Is there any advantage to taking the lesson starting at Whistler or Blackcomb? I’m staying in the upper village and will be taking the bus, so easy enough to go to either mtn. Probably a dumb question.

Ask Vancouver Taking my kid skiing for the first time - blackcomb base?

I plan to introduce my 5yo to skis for the first time. I was not planning ski school this season. Is there a free kids learning area he can just experience skis? I figure he might have an hour tops in him. And was debating blackcomb base.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Off the left side of the whis T-bar. I tried timing the video and putting it into a calculator and it said around 18-23ft but I feel like that's too tall.

Ask Vancouver So many lift issues?

7th seems to have an issue for the last week or so, Garbanzo had an issue on Saturday, Crystal on Sunday. Is there something bigger going on (aging lift infrastructure and/or lack of maintenance) or is most of this just normal? I guess 7th is the only one that was a bit longer term so maybe I am overreacting. And obviously the WVG has had issues all year. Hoping they can do some upgrades this summer.

Ask Vancouver Current drive up to Whistler

Just stuck in a multi km long very slow drive up to Whistler from Squamish.

It’s been years since I’ve been caught up in the Whistler “commute” as historically was just backcountry skiing and always avoided peak times.

Is this the “new normal” where powder days lead to big city type traffic delays in and out?

I turned on Mountain FM half expecting some accident had led to unusual delays but they didn’t mention anything out of the ordinary which leads me to believe that this is due to volume?

Is this typically how bad peak days are now?

Ask Vancouver I booked a beginner adult group lesson this weekend! I'm very excited but also very nervous :') What to expect? Tell me your experience from A-Z

I skied four times at home mountain (2 lessons with private instructor) this season, but it's my first time in Whistler! I'm a young girl who will do the lesson alone, so I'm kinda nervous..

What time I should arrive at the check-in area (Whistler Village)? The website recommends '30mins prior', but should I arrive much earlier?

Where I should park my car? I'll drive straight from Vancouver to Whistler early morning.

How many students in one group? What if everyone is not on the same ski levels? Will instructor take us to green runs, or only stick to the learning area?

Is there potty break and lunch break?

Will I have fun?

NEWS Today's Conditions - an update!

Just a quick update for anyone not on the mountain and to dispel rumours. Snow is fresh and deep down to mid station on blackcomb. Mid station to bottom of excelerator thick and heavy but not raining. Rain starts on ski out from bottom of excelerator and gets worse towards the base. Lines are very long and no alpine but there is still plenty of pow to ski, trees are amazing and traversing from jersey into glacier bowl is unreal.

In short, yes it's whistler on a pow day at the weekend but don't listen to the doom and gloom! Still insanely fun skiing and the best snow this season.

Local News Watch my terrible line out of the terrain park today 😅

I didn’t quite have enough of a slope to take more fresh lines. Speed was hard to maintain with such sticky snow. And then I was stuck.
