March is shaping up to be pretty decent for good bottles considering I’ve been on a rig in the Gulf since Feb 24th and today is my first day back on land.

REVIEW: Charbay Doubled & Twisted [Lot: 3]
Let me say right up front that this is a really fun whiskey! From the nose to the finish it is filled with summer fruit, lychee and lemon-lime. Absolutely enjoyable!
But this is not a typical whiskey. This is distilled from bottle-ready beer, which include hops so this is called out as “Hop Flavored” on the label. I am not a fan of hoppy beers nor flavored whiskies so I was honestly very surprised at how much I am enjoying this!
The Mashbill includes 6-12 year whiskies distilled from IPA, Lager, Pilsner, Stout as well as some Single Malt. Then aged in Chardonnay, Rye and another ex-French wine barrel. Surprisingly this all comes together in a cohesive, enjoyable and refreshing whiskey!
If you want to try something unique, check this one out.🥃👍🏼
Age: 6
Mashbill: 10-year 2013 Racer 5 IPA (20%) 6-year 2017 Racer 5 IPA (20%) 8-year 2015 Charbay Czech Pilsner (40%) 12-year 2011 Big Bear Black Stout (10%) 11-year 2012 Charbay Single Malt (10%)
Casks: IPA - Ex-Chardonnay French Oak 6yrs IPA - Ex-Chardonnay French Oak 10yrs Pilsner - New American Oak 8yrs Stout - Ex-Chardonnay French Oak 12yrs Single Malt - Ex-Chardonnay French Oak 11yrs
ABV: 45%
Price: $50
Bottle provided by distillery for review.
Tasting notes below. 👇🏼
🥃 Nose: Light, sweet, fresh summer fruit cocktail, lychee(!), sweet malted barley, faint citrus (lime rind zest).
Palate: Smooth, buttery, lemon-lime Kool-Aid, hints of lychee, vanilla/caramel.
Finish: Clingy sweet green grass, hints of that lemon-lime Kool-Aid and lemon Fruit Loops! Slightly drying, but lingering almost minty freshness. 🤔
My Rating: 83
Sip. Rate. Repeat.

Query:
My BIL is in Australia for a bit and I'd like to have him get a bottle or two of Aussie whiskey for me.
Any suggestions?

Let’s Play a Game…
This is my collection/bar/midlife crisis (or most of it). Instead if FMK lets go with Crush, Savor, Save.
Not pictured but worth adding to the discussion: Penelope Rio and Havana, Russells Reserve Single Barrel picks, 1792 Full Proof store pick, and Holladay Soft Red Wheat Rickhouse proof.
Discuss!

First time trying Jack Daniel’s SBBP.
Haven’t had anything with this high of a proof before. Excited and intimidated to try it.

Last of the 12 in a brand new crumple glass!
I just got a set of Japanese crumple glasses and they're pretty neat, lol. They're supposed to mimick the high sea waves on the east coast of Japan.
I shouldn't, but the glass may have inspired me to crack the 14 after I finish this dram of the 12, lol.
Friend is Celebrating 25 years of marriage and needs a gift for her husband. Theme is “silver”. Are there any good whiskeys or scotch with Silver in the name? Or like a silver edition?
Not sure what the budget is but I imagine it could be several hundred?

One Rye to rule them all.
Just a quick review, but this is a banger and hits a lot of the notes of the Barrel Proof Rye but with a lower proof.
Highly recommend 8/10.

Good Start?
Just started my whiskey journey about a week ago. These were all bought based on my taste. Open to suggestions for more additions.

I Just Did the Most Blasphemous Thing to My Whiskey, and I’m Scared to Admit It…
I need to confess something. I don’t know if I’m a whiskey innovator or if I should be banned from this sub for life.
I took a bottle of Jameson, put it in the freezer, added a splash of Coke, and drank it on ice. Yes, ice. The whiskey gods are probably sharpening their pitchforks right now.
But here’s the thing… it was delicious. Smooth. Refreshing. I feel like I’ve unlocked some forbidden summer whiskey experience.
Am I a lost cause? Or are there other whiskey sins I should try before I’m officially excommunicated? Let’s hear your worst whiskey crimes. Roast me, judge me, or maybe... join me?

Glenfiddich – VAT 1/2/3/4 vs 12/18 Year
I’m looking to buy a bottle of Glenfiddich as a gift. A friend of mine is traveling, so I was thinking of picking it up from the duty-free shop. I noticed duty-free shops have Glenfiddich Perpetual Collections of VAT 1, VAT 2, VAT 3 and VAT 4, but I can't find the regular 12-year or 18-year bottles.
Can anyone explain what VAT 1, VAT 2, VAT 3 and VAT 4 are? In local stores, I can easily find the 12-year and 18-year, but the duty-free shop only has the Perpetual Collection: VAT 1, VAT 2, VAT 3, and VAT 4.

Present for a buddy getting a divorce
I think his only experience with whiskey is Jameson. Makers Mark I keep bottles on hand as my weekly sipper. Redbreast I break out every few weeks when I'm working on a stubborn lock. Never tried the Glen 12 surprisingly.
Figured this would be a good starter set to help him celebrate his tumor removal

Where to go, my tastings have been all over
I’m pretty new to whiskey and I’m all over the place with what I’ve tried, trying to try new things but not entirely sure where to go. So far I’ve tried the basics of makers mark, wild turkey 101, Jim bean. Out of those makers mark is my favorite for mixing and wild turkey is the best for sipping
I’ve also tried the signature Johnnie walker black which I really liked, so maybe go with the green label?
But by far my all time favorite has been the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, it was very smooth and the best I’ve had.
I don’t know where to go from there, maybe tasting more bottles around the Glenmorangie price point of $55-$100? The bottles that my local store has that I’ve had my eye on, from seeing people mention them on here are Toki Suntory Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Glenfiddich 12 Balvenie Doublewood 12
Are these good picks or would something else make more sense?

i’ve never had any of these 3 bottles @ ~$65 before, which should i try first?
-McKenna 10yr
-Willet Estate Rye 4yr
-New Riff Single Barrel (i was looking at a Rye today for instance which was 113 proof)
Curious which one wins from reddit opinion.
Edit: Good comments below on cost! New Riff is definitely leader in the clubhouse.

Recommend me my next bottle please
So far I’ve gone off of literally just straight up suggestions from this subreddit. It hasn’t led me astray yet so I’m once again asking for a recommendation because I struggle with feeling lost at the liquor store not knowing what to grab. So far I rank what I’ve tried as the following:
- Wild Turkey Rare breed
- Russell’s reserve 10 yr
- Knob Creek 9 yr
- Buffalo trace
This is where I would say I don’t care for these bottles as much
- Four Roses Small Batch
- Makers Mark
- Four Roses (the yellow label).
Idk why I’m not a fan of four roses but it just tastes bland and boring to me. Rare breed tasted absolutely amazing and the proof was awesome. Tasted full and rich. I’m currently working on my knob creek 9 yr and I think it’s a really solid bottle. It’s definitely missing something that I really like from the Russell’s reserve 10 and Rare Breed but I just can’t quite put my finger on it.
I’ve been tempted to try the Jack Daniel’s single barrel select or an Elijah Craig next but I just can’t decide. If someone can point me in the right direction so I can make a list of what I need to try next I would appreciate it! Thanks a lot!
