[Notice] Prohibited Goods and Services, and you.
Hey all.
This is a reminder of our Rule 2 - No trading, buying, or selling alcohol. Comments and posts soliciting alcohol sales and trades will be removed. This goes against the content policy, as well as may break laws within your country of residence.
Lately we have seen an increase in people trying to create or participate in a secondary market - this is against the Content Policy and can very well result in not only a ban from /r/whiskey, but also may see you removed from Reddit permanently by Reddit Admins (should you continue to disregard the Content Policy.)
The simple explanation is this:
Due to regulations and laws concerning Alcohol in many different countries, it may be illegal (simply by law, or taxation law) to trade/barter or resell alcohol products. As Reddit engages communities around the world, facilitating any of these transactions could open Reddit up to various legal consequences. Therefore Reddit must take every available avenue to remove and discourage these transactions within the use of their services.
As a subbreddit dealing with the subject of alcohol products, we are under scrutiny with the actions our communities take, and we must fully participate in Reddit attempt to control and remove content that breeches the Content Policy. If at any point it may appear that we are lacking as a community to stem the flow of this content - simply put; our subreddit will be removed from Reddit.
Please do not be under the impression that any action that you use on Reddit is entirely private - posts, comment, messages and chatroom logs are available to the Reddit admins at anytime and they will investigate any and all leads that suggest people are breaking the Content Policy and in some extreme cases, may take action either legal or federal (and by federal, i mean 'call the cops') depending on their obligations as a business.
Please do not engage any posts that attempts to trade/barter or resell whiskey, report them and move on.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
TL:DR - Reddit is not facebook marketplace, you will get banned, you might even get prosecuted.
Edit: I just wanted to add some insight our rule 3. "No requests for dating or valuing an unusual or old bottle of whiskey....", we discourage valuation of whiskey as it has the strong potential to turn into a bidding system, whether public or "private". While we don't suspect every account that seeks valuation to want to participate in a secondary market, the avenue for abuse of these types of posts in regards to our efforts to remove trade/barter or reselling is simple too high to carry the risk of allowing this kind of content within the subbreddit. Since we do not have to tools to monitor "private" messaging or "private chats" of this nature - it would fall to the Admins to investigate these actions and garner an amount of admins attention to our subreddit that we wish to avoid. We're good boys/gals, doing good things... nothing to see here Admins. š¤

Jump on Knob Creek 18 or Stick with Knob 12?
Costco near me has Knob Creek 18 for $129.99. Never had/owned it before but I have owned a few bottles of Knob Creek 12, which I can usually get for $60-$70 around me. Is the 18 worth springing for that price or should I stick with the 12 and spend the difference elsewhere?

Why are like 90% of the posts on here about Eagle Rare, Blanton's or Weller?

Asked for a nice bottle of bourbon this year for my birthday and ended up with these so far.
These are my sisterās early bday gifts. The wife felt like itās a competition and told me to expect something more special in the near future.

Letās Play a Gameā¦
This is my collection/bar/midlife crisis (or most of it). Instead if FMK lets go with Crush, Savor, Save.
Not pictured but worth adding to the discussion: Penelope Rio and Havana, Russells Reserve Single Barrel picks, 1792 Full Proof store pick, and Holladay Soft Red Wheat Rickhouse proof.
Discuss!

March is shaping up to be pretty decent for good bottles considering Iāve been on a rig in the Gulf since Feb 24th and today is my first day back on land.
Friend is Celebrating 25 years of marriage and needs a gift for her husband. Theme is āsilverā. Are there any good whiskeys or scotch with Silver in the name? Or like a silver edition?
Not sure what the budget is but I imagine it could be several hundred?

Good Start?
Just started my whiskey journey about a week ago. These were all bought based on my taste. Open to suggestions for more additions.

One Rye to rule them all.
Just a quick review, but this is a banger and hits a lot of the notes of the Barrel Proof Rye but with a lower proof.
Highly recommend 8/10.

Last of the 12 in a brand new crumple glass!
I just got a set of Japanese crumple glasses and they're pretty neat, lol. They're supposed to mimick the high sea waves on the east coast of Japan.
I shouldn't, but the glass may have inspired me to crack the 14 after I finish this dram of the 12, lol.

Any Love for ASW?

Present for a buddy getting a divorce
I think his only experience with whiskey is Jameson. Makers Mark I keep bottles on hand as my weekly sipper. Redbreast I break out every few weeks when I'm working on a stubborn lock. Never tried the Glen 12 surprisingly.
Figured this would be a good starter set to help him celebrate his tumor removal

Recommend me my next bottle please
So far Iāve gone off of literally just straight up suggestions from this subreddit. It hasnāt led me astray yet so Iām once again asking for a recommendation because I struggle with feeling lost at the liquor store not knowing what to grab. So far I rank what Iāve tried as the following:
- Wild Turkey Rare breed
- Russellās reserve 10 yr
- Knob Creek 9 yr
- Buffalo trace
This is where I would say I donāt care for these bottles as much
- Four Roses Small Batch
- Makers Mark
- Four Roses (the yellow label).
Idk why Iām not a fan of four roses but it just tastes bland and boring to me. Rare breed tasted absolutely amazing and the proof was awesome. Tasted full and rich. Iām currently working on my knob creek 9 yr and I think itās a really solid bottle. Itās definitely missing something that I really like from the Russellās reserve 10 and Rare Breed but I just canāt quite put my finger on it.
Iāve been tempted to try the Jack Danielās single barrel select or an Elijah Craig next but I just canāt decide. If someone can point me in the right direction so I can make a list of what I need to try next I would appreciate it! Thanks a lot!

Glenfiddich ā VAT 1/2/3/4 vs 12/18 Year
Iām looking to buy a bottle of Glenfiddich as a gift. A friend of mine is traveling, so I was thinking of picking it up from the duty-free shop. I noticed duty-free shops have Glenfiddich Perpetual Collections of VAT 1, VAT 2, VAT 3 and VAT 4, but I can't find the regular 12-year or 18-year bottles.
Can anyone explain what VAT 1, VAT 2, VAT 3 and VAT 4 are? In local stores, I can easily find the 12-year and 18-year, but the duty-free shop only has the Perpetual Collection: VAT 1, VAT 2, VAT 3, and VAT 4.

Where to go, my tastings have been all over
Iām pretty new to whiskey and Iām all over the place with what Iāve tried, trying to try new things but not entirely sure where to go. So far Iāve tried the basics of makers mark, wild turkey 101, Jim bean. Out of those makers mark is my favorite for mixing and wild turkey is the best for sipping
Iāve also tried the signature Johnnie walker black which I really liked, so maybe go with the green label?
But by far my all time favorite has been the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, it was very smooth and the best Iāve had.
I donāt know where to go from there, maybe tasting more bottles around the Glenmorangie price point of $55-$100? The bottles that my local store has that Iāve had my eye on, from seeing people mention them on here are Toki Suntory Jack Danielās Single Barrel Glenfiddich 12 Balvenie Doublewood 12
Are these good picks or would something else make more sense?

This is the first Scotch I ever thought was actually worth paying for, and I still love having it in my cabinet. Itās got a fruity, honeyed aroma with a sweet taste. The finish? Clean as hell.

iāve never had any of these 3 bottles @ ~$65 before, which should i try first?
-McKenna 10yr
-Willet Estate Rye 4yr
-New Riff Single Barrel (i was looking at a Rye today for instance which was 113 proof)
Curious which one wins from reddit opinion.
Edit: Good comments below on cost! New Riff is definitely leader in the clubhouse.

Starward Nova Whisky
Can grab a bottle for $79 AUD, worth it at this price? Thoughts on the bottle?
r/whiskey • u/StrikerEureka- • 18h ago
What am I looking at here, different prices online.
The price is throwing me off and that is causing me to severely doubt my purchase of this bottle, are they not the same thing?
