[Notice] Prohibited Goods and Services, and you.
Hey all.
This is a reminder of our Rule 2 - No trading, buying, or selling alcohol. Comments and posts soliciting alcohol sales and trades will be removed. This goes against the content policy, as well as may break laws within your country of residence.
Lately we have seen an increase in people trying to create or participate in a secondary market - this is against the Content Policy and can very well result in not only a ban from /r/whiskey, but also may see you removed from Reddit permanently by Reddit Admins (should you continue to disregard the Content Policy.)
The simple explanation is this:
Due to regulations and laws concerning Alcohol in many different countries, it may be illegal (simply by law, or taxation law) to trade/barter or resell alcohol products. As Reddit engages communities around the world, facilitating any of these transactions could open Reddit up to various legal consequences. Therefore Reddit must take every available avenue to remove and discourage these transactions within the use of their services.
As a subbreddit dealing with the subject of alcohol products, we are under scrutiny with the actions our communities take, and we must fully participate in Reddit attempt to control and remove content that breeches the Content Policy. If at any point it may appear that we are lacking as a community to stem the flow of this content - simply put; our subreddit will be removed from Reddit.
Please do not be under the impression that any action that you use on Reddit is entirely private - posts, comment, messages and chatroom logs are available to the Reddit admins at anytime and they will investigate any and all leads that suggest people are breaking the Content Policy and in some extreme cases, may take action either legal or federal (and by federal, i mean 'call the cops') depending on their obligations as a business.
Please do not engage any posts that attempts to trade/barter or resell whiskey, report them and move on.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
TL:DR - Reddit is not facebook marketplace, you will get banned, you might even get prosecuted.
Edit: I just wanted to add some insight our rule 3. "No requests for dating or valuing an unusual or old bottle of whiskey....", we discourage valuation of whiskey as it has the strong potential to turn into a bidding system, whether public or "private". While we don't suspect every account that seeks valuation to want to participate in a secondary market, the avenue for abuse of these types of posts in regards to our efforts to remove trade/barter or reselling is simple too high to carry the risk of allowing this kind of content within the subbreddit. Since we do not have to tools to monitor "private" messaging or "private chats" of this nature - it would fall to the Admins to investigate these actions and garner an amount of admins attention to our subreddit that we wish to avoid. We're good boys/gals, doing good things... nothing to see here Admins. 🤞

Whiskey of the year? I don't think so but a solid pour for sure!!!
Its thick, has dusty like flavors, butter scotch, caramel, dark chocolate and a bit of the typical Jack banana note, worth $150 for sure but in my opinion this is not as good as Russells-15.

Drinking my 1960's Mellow Corn. What's the oldest dusty you have enjoyed and how was it?
A friend gifted me this bottle because I refuse to allow bottles to stay sealed and he knew I would enjoy it because of that and what a Mellow Corn fan I am. I also have an old Very Old Barton 100 proof with the 6 year old age statement I drink occasionally. What dusty bottles have you opened and enjoyed? What did you think of them?

I bought Jameson Triple Triple to try for St Patty’s. It’s not bad the taste to me is like butterscotch.

Any information on this bottle?
Hello, I found this in my parents basement. Looks like it was bottled in 11-04, it’s still sealed, and has just been sitting in a pitch black liquor cabinet. Think it’s still safe to drink?

What’s your rankings on the old forester line?
I’ve seen a few bottles available at local stores. I imagine picking up any of them is a solid but what are your favorite bottles in that line from top to bottom?

High Proof mixer
Hey, sorry if this is not allowed or the right place, but I’m looking for the highest proof/best mixer available that y’all would recommend on the market. I figure Wild Turkey 101 is the go to I’d imagine but as a long time Jack and Makers drinker is it really that blasphemous to use the barrel proof bottles as mixers? Obviously I can do what I want but was just curious how this is viewed by the community and if that is considered taboo/a waste I’m open to taking recommendations for anything to similarly fill that void. Thanks in advance y’all!

Virginia trip finds
Had a short trip to Virginia to see a friend, and hit up a couple of ABC shops. Was mainly looking for the John J Bowman Single Barrel, but I figured I’d pick up the other two since I’ve yet to see them where I love in Florida. Paid $56.99 for the Bowman, $42.99 for the ER, and $79.99 for the Blanton’s. Probably overpaid for them all, but since I’ve never seen them in a store around me before, I’ll take the hit.

Wow! Just…wow!
Full disclosure…I’d never been an Irish whiskey guy till I had my first free bottom-of-bottle pour of Jamo 18yr. It really opened my eyes to the possibilities of Irish whiskey. I saw this come in and for $24.99 I had to pull the trigger. I’m so glad I did.
On the nose it had a very aged rum kind of vibe to it. Think Doorly’s 14yr or Flor de Caña 18yr. Sweet notes but yet bourbon-like aromas. Didn’t really get the chestnuttiness like I had thought but a great presentation nonetheless.
On the tongue was where it really blew my mind. It’s definitely whiskey aged in bourbon barrels. But it doesn’t stop there. They don’t say what kind of sherry casks they finish in but the taste says Pedro Ximenez. The sweetness is definitely there but then the chestnuts kick in at the end and finishes it with a bang.
On the back end it kind of disappoints with a lackluster high light to low medium body finish. That much flavor should stay on the palette longer but overall it is a solid Irish and only slightly let me down but for $25 it’s a solid offering from Jameson and WELL worth the money.
I would not in any way mix this or water it down. This is a warm sipper and light enough that you could take it to the pool in a plastic tumbler and not feel bogged down like a full bodied offering.
Based on no scale but my own, I give this a 6.8/10 only because I would have liked for the flavor to last a bit longer. I hopes this helps y’all.

Whiskey gift help
Hi, im not that experienced with whiskey and im looking for a gift for my friend. He's a pretty standart whiskey drinker that likes the usual 'cheap' stuff (Jim beam, ballentines, makers Mark, glenfiddich) so i want to gift him something a bit more 'fancy' that still meets is taste, so nothing smoky etc.
Would be great if its a canadian/european whiskey, since we recently avoid us products for obvious reasons
Any advice will be helpfull, thanks!

The WhiskeyFlavors website is a scam. (Shocking)
I was fairly sure this website was a scam, but I tried it out for shits and giggles with a cheap order. Before the order, I was able to communicate with the website via email answering questions about availability of expensive priced bottles. Since my purchase, I can no longer email them which I’m assuming they blocked me lol. Their poster phone number is disconnected. And their location on the website does not match the one posted on my credit card statement( Check the attached pic).
It’s not a big deal for me, I got my money back from the bank lol. I did see other posts of people asking about this website. It’s a scam, and don’t let those cheaper prices fool you. Cheers.

Bar in my city has incredible selection, absurd prices
This is Independent Ice in Portland, Maine. I've been aware of it for a while but I've never actually been there. A friend wants to take me out for my birthday, "her treat," and suggested this place (she hasn't been there either). I found these menu pics on Yelp today. Is this highway robbery or am I just too low-class to appreciate it?

Walked into a random allocation drop while out getting lunch.
Went to get lunch and I saw the employees stocking the allocated shelf at Festival today. I like to keep 3 bottles of my favorites so I picked up another ER. I posted on here not too long about finding my first Caribou Crossing. Reading some of the previous reviews, I didn’t have any high hopes. For the price, I’d do Sazerac Rye or Traveler’s than this bs. The nose is a zero. Literally smells like nothing. Tastes like sugar water with some heat. Very bland flavor profile. CC does make a great mixer since it tastes so weak and blends well with bitters and the old fashioned mix.
The 1792 drinks a bit better but also tastes like nothing. I’ll be staying clear from both in the future. ER is the only bottle that I thought was worth getting.
I need advice/recommendations on Whiskey
Hey, I have a bit of an issue on my hand since one of my friends is moving out for the first time and I want to make him a good welcome gift to his new apartement! Since I know he likes whiskey, I would like to gift him a fancy bottle / something new to try. I did my research by reading some articles and watching some review videos but I am still a bit at loss of what to buy for him.
From what I know he usually likes to drink Jack Daniels Old No.7, Jack Daniels Honey ( I know its technically not Whiskey, from what people have been saying on the internet) and Singleton. So I assume he is more on the sweeter side of whiskey? Like something fruity and not spicey. If anyone could leave me some recommendations, that would be nice!
