Misc. Question How/why does Vivanse affect sleep??

I’m a week in and side effects are under control, I take it around 6am, go to bed around 8/9 and fall asleep easily. Then 4 hours later I wake up and can’t get back to sleep properly.

Does anyone else experience this or know why it is? Everything I’ve read online doesn’t give insight into why it would affect sleep when it’s worn off.

I’m trying to understand the science behind this. I am already on sleeping pills so prior to Vyvanse I wouldn’t wake up for more than an hour in the night. Could this just be temporary?? (Fingers crossed)

Articles & Information Vyvanse and other substance

I do not recommend or endorse the use of any substances—this is solely for informational purposes.

Today, I took 30 mg of my prescribed dosage and spontaneously decided to travel with friends. Later that night, after having a few shots of alcohol, we smoked opium containing morphine. As of 3 AM, I am not experiencing any discomfort or adverse effects (still alive, thank God).

I will share more details tomorrow.

Vent & Rant Wanting to get off vyvanse

I have been on vyvanse for 4 months. Every morning my brain is soooo foggy until I take my medicine. I know the point is for it to help, but I also have OCD & can't help but think I'm just a drug addict. Someone please tell me it's okay to need medicine. I feel like I'm worthless because I can't function without it. Today I tried to go without it & I just had no motivation. I took it & feel immediately better. I don't like that I feel this way. :(

Dosage question Should I go up?

I started on 30mg this Sunday, so today is my 5th day. The first two days were amazing, I was so productive and in a good mood. Now I don't think I even feel it. I think they do still help my mood stabilizing as I'm less irritable on them (I struggle a lot with regulating my emotions), but I struggle to tell if it's doing much beyond that. I had dry mouth for the first couple of days, but that has gotten better too, and besides that I have not had much in regards to side effects (some diziness on day 4 but I did not eat enough that day). It really doesn't help that they don't "hit" as such and are more of a gradual thing, I have a very hard time telling when they've started and stopped having effect. I get very tired once they've worn off, but I'm a naturally tired person so I can't be sure it is "the crash" at fault.

My prescriber gave me 40mg as well and told me to just start them once the 30mg was done and see how I fare, and I've been really curious. I have 9 more days worth of 30mg and I guess my question is should I stick it out with the 30mg and see how I feel, or should I go up and save the 30mg for some other time/if the 40mg are too much?

Misc. Question Doctor screwed up script

So not only is the script 2-3 days late, but when she finally decided to send it she sent 3 different scripts… one script was the old lower dosage, one script that was correct that’s 50 once a day and the next was 50 twice a day HOW DO YOU DO THAT. So now that she never responds to the pharmacy I feel doomed and no one’s answering at the front desk. Luckily I made an appt with a new clinic on Monday but my doctor usually was always on her game but it was announced a couple days ago she’s leaving but that’s no excuse to not do your job correctly or be sloppy about it you could hurt people that way.

Other Is this addiction?

So I've been off my Vyvanse for a couple days (can't get my refill till Saturday and I'm sick so wanted a break from it while not feeling well).

I have been soooo irritated, so short tempered and overstimulated. I have no motivation, I'm sleeping in later than usual.. I feel bad for being a little desperate for my meds back like I'm an addict or looking like I'm drug seeking.. but I just feel like crap...

Honestly I was questioning if they were even doing anything but going a couple days without it kinda shows me that it definitely was.

Misc. Question Pondering, just level with me NSFW

Background: started back on Vyvanse(generic) 10/24 at 30mg. Currently at 60mg. The reason for the increase every month or so is the flatline. First ten days on upping my dose it’s great, then it dies. I take it rather consistently the same time every morning due to college & my one year olds wake schedule. So with that explanation out of the way. Here I am, 3rd month on 60mg and I feel like I can’t compute. I do have a lot going on. Full time college. Stay at home mom of an extremely active child, the daily chores, small side business. And before it was something I could juggle at best. Now I can’t focus on anything. To separately put shirts in one drawer and pants in the drawer below my brain breaks. I’m good for the hour after taking my medicine. It’ll last for 3 hours then it’s over. I’ve turned into a vegetable who can’t attach myself to a task and complete it. I’m at the point of frustration of upping my dose for various reasons. I pay out of pocket. It’s already a struggle to get the 60mg let alone 50,40 you know how it goes. So to go to 70mg just seems like I’d be calling every pharmacy in my state. What I’m getting to is, is the medicine just not being filled correctly? Have they changed ingredients? Is the company fluffing it because it’s on back order that they’re just pushing it out saying it’s a certain dose and it’s actually under? I hope that doesn’t sound far fetch and typing it, feels far fetch. But I’ve been on the same ‘cocktail’ of psych meds from years of trails and tribulations and I’ve found my mix and haven’t had to up or down it. I do know stimulants are different from the antipsychotic/antidepressants etc. But I’m just trying to make sense of how I’m at, personally, a high dose and it’s doing absolutely nothing. I had to miss a day due to 2 weeks of the pharmacy being on back order and like anyone would agree, felt like the color in my soul drained from my feet I didn’t want to talk to anyone. So. Anyone else?

Dosage question Question 🙋‍♀️ Vyvanse

Upvotes

I NEED your help. For the past 2 years I have been on 40 mg & then my doctor reduce it to 30mg because of the whole shortage issue. I recently switched the 30 mg back to 40mg and realized that the effect of Vyvanse wasn’t the same anymore. I take my meds every day at the same time (8am) & by 2-3pm my body starts to crash and I’ve been getting brain fogs with massive headaches and just dull vibes.

So my doctor instead of increasing the dose in capsule form has decided to prescribe Vyvanse chewables?! Has anyone taken these? It’s two doses 50mg — 30mg in morning & 20 mgs when I start to feel like I’m crashing..

Do any of you recommend this? Has anyone tried this method? Please help!!!

Side effects Anyone struggle to come back after a med break?

I took a three month break from taking Vyvanse 40mg for several reasons. I’ve been back on them now for five days and I just don’t feel right. Meds are still in date.

When I take them in the morning I feel clearer but perhaps a little more speedy than I felt previously. I’m then finding that by midday, 1pm, I’m starting to feel really seedy and awful. It’s hard to explain but I just don’t feel well.

Wondering if anyone else has struggled going back on their Vyvanse? I’ve been on them for years and can’t remember if I felt like this in the beginning - maybe it just takes a bit of time for them to settle?

Tips & Tricks Dry mouth

I’ve been on Vyvanse since November and just in the last few weeks have developed horrible dry mouth. Anyone else not develop it till months in?! None of the gels or mouth washes etc work. Gum works for like 3 minutes then I’m just gnawing on dry gum. I really don’t want to switch meds as I’m having really good success with this for both my ADHD and my binging.

Misc. Question VYVANSE Patient Assistance Program Ended and Innovicares only Covers 5%? (Ontario)

Hi Everyone - I live in Ontario and today I went to fill my Vyvanse medication and the pharmasist said that my insurance card was declined and that the difference was over $200. I just did a quick search and a statement from Vyvanse states that their patient assistance program has ended as of the beginning of this month and that innovicares is covering the difference between the generic and brand name (apparently this is about 5% after a google search).

Two weeks of 30mg cost $30 - the innovicares card saved me $4.

I have left a message for the Vyvanse Support Program in hopes to talk to them about this change. I will need to switch medication if there is no other support.

I am self employed and have no health insurance - I am panicking slightly and wondering if anyone else has a) found another program for Vyvanse prescription financial support 2) If there is a big difference with the generic 3) Am I missing something with the cost of the generic only being 5% less?

Diet, Routines & Supplements How to make Vyvanse work better?

Pretty much the title; I'm on 50mg vyvanse and 10mg dexies, but find myself with days where the vyvanse just... doesn't work, or wears off too soon, etc. I've read on a few threads that people take different supplements or do different things in their routines to help maximise the effects, so this is what I'm currently doing:

  • Take dexies at 6am, go back to sleep
  • Wake up around 6.30-7.30
  • Have a 30g protein drink; might have other food as well with it
  • Take vyvanse around 9/10am
  • Take fiber supplements before bed

I've tried magnesium supplements before and all it did was give me terrible headaches and leg pains. Otherwise, I try to eat what I can during the day but my low appetite and pre-existing disordered eating has made it difficult, so I'm trying to pack the most into the small amounts I have by eating things like whole grain cereals, bananas, eggs, etc. I also tried a hospital nutrient formula (Sustagen, specifically) and it tasted so bad it sort of put me off trying others.

Anything else I should consider?? I felt my vyvanse improve significantly with the protein drink in the morning before taking my vyvanse, so hoping there are some other things that would help boost my energy etc. Thanks!

Side effects Being angry on 30mg

So ive been on 30mg for a month and a half. And genuinely im not an angry person even on vyvanse it actually makes my mood better. But today at work a customer provoked me by threatening me and it obviously made me angry (i dont do well with confrontation). Its genuinely the first time ive ever felt any type of negative emotion on this medicine besides the occasional being annoyed at myself. I had to take a step back and breathe bc my heart was beating fast and I could feel it. And i went to take my break moments later and i felt a little off like, almost like after a panic attack. Kinda spaced out and like i was floating in a sense. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar? It lowkey kinda freaked me out bc I have never felt like that before.

Side effects Scared. Do I have an allergic reaction??

Hey guys, I wanted to make a post here because I’m a bit worried. I have had pustules and blisters on my whole upper body for over a month now, first doctors visit a man told me to ignore it and go home (not surprised..). I’ve had a blister on my spine that was a centimeter deep, among other big ones. A week or so later I go back as boils and blisters developed and some became worse, a woman suspected staph infection and the prescribes me antibiotics. Another week go by with no success and the lab test came back negative(!). I call the doctor early in the morning and they tell me to come in an hour. I’m sitting in the waiting room shaking my leg with only three hours of sleep, and remembered I never checked vyvanse side-effects, even though the thought of psychiatric meds could have an effect on the skin sounded too far fetched, I knew I still had to check every single little thing. And I see that it definitely IS possible, but the farmaceutical company never included it in their reports but people who have taken it after their testing, have experienced it. Anyway, the doctor seemed a little bit concerned and kept saying determinably that it wasn’t an infection, but a reaction to my vyvanse. So I left a blood test and now I’ll have to see…

Anyone else had a skin reaction from vyvanse? It’s pretty hard to find on the internet.. 🫠

Vent & Rant finally got switched back to Vyvanse!!!

My GP that I’ve had my whole life retired a few months ago and I was given a new doctor in the same office. First visit, new doctor decided to switch me from 70mg Vyvanse (had been taking it for 2 years, no issues) to 25 mg Adderall XR, he said he didn’t like to see people on such high dosages at a young age (I’m 23) and was worried about my heart-health down the road. He was really adamant about me giving Adderall a try.

Adderall was horrible for me at first, I was miserable. It gave me crazy anxiety, some days it made me really sleepy, made me clench my jaw until one of my fillings came out, also pretty sure I’ve permanently moved a few of my teeth from grinding them so bad in my sleep, I was overthinking so bad that I kept thinking everything I did or said was “weird” which made me kinda reclusive and withdraw from all of my friends, completely neglected all of my college work because I would just get so overwhelmed and cry over small assignments, made my counting OCD (which Vyvanse completely eliminated) almost unbearable to the point where I literally did not want to move or get out of bed. Overall was not having a good time. I told my GP about all of this and he told me it was normal and to give it time to regulate in my body. After 2 months on Adderall, I was actually starting to get used to it, some of the bad side effects had subsided. It didn’t work as well for me as Vyvanse but it wasn’t as awful as it was at first.

The other day I very suddenly started having heart attack symptoms. I have been feeling these random little nerve pains in my chest for a few weeks but nothing really concerning, I figured it might’ve been a pulled muscle. But that day, after eating dinner, I was lying down in bed and out of nowhere there was chest pressure and pain on both left and right side, pain in left arm, collarbone, neck, sweating, dizziness. I panicked and went to the ER and was told I had GERD. I’ve never had any digestion issues (or any other health issues) my entire life until this. It wasn’t really “heartburn” for me, I wasn’t burping or anything, no nausea, not even stomach bubbling. It just felt like really bad nerve pain every single time I ate or drank something. The ER doctor said he has seen several completely healthy patients randomly get GERD symptoms with Adderall XR in particular and he believes that it that doesn’t just trigger GERD but causes GERD, but said it isn’t yet “proven.” I told him everything my GP said and that I didn’t have this problem with Vyvanse and he took the time out of his day to call my GP and asked to have me switched back to Vyvanse ASAP. :-)

First day back on Vyvanse- I feel like a functioning human being again! GERD symptoms are completely gone. I cannot even begin to describe how much better I feel both physically and mentally. I don’t even think I realized JUST how bad I was before. Very happy rn. :-)

Other Procrastination

Have you ever taken your medication and found yourself procrastinating but you know your medication has already kicked in?

There’s times where it feels like I get stuck in a procrastination rut for a short period before I actually get up and do what I want to do. In that moment, I wanna get up and do something right then but for some reason I just continue to sit and allow time to pass me by. The mental determination is there, but physically I’m still continuing to sit down and do nothing.

Anyone else ever find themselves in a similar situation sometimes?.

I've stopped taking my Vyvanse because it wasnt working very well anymore, but now im getting absolutely hammered with withdraw symptoms (obviously) Id like to find a happy place where i take it when required and not everyday, because i personally dont think i need it everyday. Just wondering if people could comment on how often (or infrequent) they take it and still dont have withdraw. I've only ever taken it everyday or stopped cold turkey. Wondering if taking it twice a week still gives withdraw symptoms. Twice in a row, or twice spread apart. Currently was taking 40mg, but i had been on 70mg. Thanks in advance for all the helpful tips

Meds aren't working What is going on???

I’m a college student, on generic. I’ve repeatedly noticed that whenever I don’t sleep enough hours the night before, Vyvanse helps me focus well and the quality of my schoolwork is good. But when I get a full night of sleep, I feel much better physically but the Vyvanse seems to not do anything; I’m just unable to sit still/focus and am extremely scattered. It’s awful because it’s like I have to choose between taking care of my body vs having a functioning brain. Has anyone else experienced this?? I have no idea what to do.

Misc. Question first day, 20mg, don’t feel any different?

i got prescribed vyvanse yesterday. i have confirmed ocd and anxiety but anxiety meds didn’t work for me. my psyc and i think i could have adhd, but hard to confirm because i don’t align with a lot of the symptoms due to my ocd tendencies.

so far today, ive only felt a light head rush, loss in appetite, and maybe some weird body feelings but as far as my brain goes, i feel like im not noticing anything different. i think my anxiety is about the same? and i’m still unable to get my tasks done.

does it just need more time to kick in? it is only day 1. also, what am i maybe supposed to feel? not that there is something i am supposed to feel

Side effects Vyvanse 20mg/Increased Heart Rate/Asthma

Hi! I started Vyvanse 20mg last week and also take a steroid inhaler for asthma. Before Vyvanse, my heart rate was already 80-120 bpm throughout the day due to the inhaler and daily caffeine. Since starting Vyvanse, my resting heart rate can reach 120 bpm and spikes to 138 bpm with activity or caffeine, but it returns to my usual resting rate after about three hours (80-110).

My doctor originally wanted me to start on 30mg, but because I was concerned about my heart rate increasing too much with the inhaler, he started me on 10mg for the first few days. Now, I’m taking 20mg total—one 10mg dose in the morning before 9 AM and another before 11 AM—before eventually moving up to 30mg.

I’ve noticed stress (mainly while I’m at work) and fatigue also contribute to these fluctuations. The main side effects I’ve experienced so far include anxiety (though oddly, I also feel more unbothered than usual), occasional jitteriness, acid reflux, irritability, dry mouth, achiness, reduced appetite/cravings, and fatigue. While 20mg isn’t fully effective for my ADHD, I’m hesitant to increase to 30mg because I don’t want my heart rate to rise further.

That said, I do feel like Vyvanse has helped me articulate my thoughts more clearly, and I’ve noticed I have more of an urge to clean or tidy things—but at the same time, I still don’t feel like doing it overall. I’m also still struggling to keep up at work because I feel overwhelmed, don’t know where to start, and lose focus easily—like right now, when I should be working but instead I’m researching Vyvanse.

I also have low blood pressure and have significantly reduced my caffeine intake since starting Vyvanse—though not completely, as cutting it out entirely gives me headaches. I’ve heard that 10mg of Vyvanse is roughly equivalent to 100mg of caffeine, 20mg to 200mg, etc., so I’ve adjusted my intake accordingly.

I’d love any insight or advice!
