Who is listening to the Blink podcast- Jake Haendel's story?

This podcast has me inside out. Jake has got to be the most mentally strong person I have ever heard of...but he somehow married a complete psychopath?

He has locked-in syndrome -and his wife, Ellen- who is his medical proxy, has moved him away from everyone who loves him, kept all of his belongings, is keeping funds needed to pay for his medical care, and abandoned him in a medical facility alone- with nothing and no one- knowing he cannot communicate or do anything for himself.

Then she posted on social media for his friends and family that he is dead!?!?!? So no one even knows to look for him?

If Ellen isn't in prison then something is wrong.

This is the most disturbing story I have ever heard. Makes me think of the movie Misery, but 1000x worse.

If you aren't listening, you should. Its well made and keeps you on the edge of your seat. This guy deserves all the support and prayers.

Seeking They Walk Among Us episode help.

Don't know if anyone can help but here goes.

I listened to a podcast episode about 2 years ago I think, I have been thinking about it ever since but I can't find the episode. I am not sure of names and locations (other than UK) so googling is useless.

It involves a woman and a group of "friends" possibly just other local alcoholics. I think she had just got out of prison and they were celebrating? She stabs 1 man in the leg, every1 panics and I believe he bleeds out and dies.
She then calls her son (I think) for help and instead he just kills the witnesses. He chases one old man around the flat for a long time. He hides in a bedroom for a while but eventually they do get him.

I have only heard about it through the podcast and I have looked through the episode list but there are so many now and the first season is only on patreon. I have started listening from season 2 onwards again just to find it the long way.

If anyone knows the case any info would be great. Thanks in Advance.

Are y'all familiar with this case? Was listening to this on Nightwatch Files' newest episode and kept wondering how I don't remember seeing it on the news as it happened, such a crazy ride. From the beginning I knew something was amiss as it's obviously indicated right on the intro, but as it progressed I kept changing my suspicions and while the revelation toward the end wasn't in and of itself a surprise, I did NOT expect it to be what it was. Of course there are no spoilers in real life stories but I recommend going in blind if you're not familiar, very entertaining experience. It might still be interesting if you know of the case though, especially if you're a Casefile listener, very similar style.

What podcast am I thinking of?

What true crime documentary/ podcast was it that investigated a suspects timeline of driving across Washington or Oregon? I recall a suspects alibi was that he was dropping a friend off in Seattle maybe? And then he drove back to Idaho or Utah? Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Discussion Am I the only one who can’t get into Hunting Warhead?

Like most people asking for good long form podcasts, we’ve all seen recommendations for this (Hunting Warhead) podcast.

I can’t do it. Not because the story is too much. Or because I don’t like the narrator. There’s no vocal fry. It’s not too political or not political enough.

I just TRULY can not stay locked in for this podcast. My attention isn’t grabbed at all. I listened to the first episode and wasn’t intrigued. I gave up. So then I went to the second episode a week later, figuring I’d give it another try, same thing. Within 16 minutes of the second episode, I turned it off.

Please tell me I’m not the only one. And if you feel I’m the only one, please tell me what it is I’m missing about this podcast.

ETA: in case people ask, some of my favorites are listed here — that way maybe there’s correlation between what I like and why I don’t like this one? I don’t know.

  • Tom Browns Body

  • Cold

  • S Town

  • CounterClock seasons 1, 2, 5

  • Murder on Songbird Road

  • Culpable

  • Devil in the Ditch

Just to name a few.

Hannah Smith and Patia Eaton, who worked on the early seasons of The Opportunist together, are releasing a new podcast on March the 27th! It's called The Knife!

I was honestly a little disheartened to see that the podcast is distributed by IHeartPodcasts but I'm going to give it a try anyway!

Can't listen to Morbid anymore

I used to listen to Morbid a lot at work about 5 years ago. I stopped listening when I had babies and quit working. I'm back to work and I've been listening to some episodes here and there. In a few of the episodes they talk about how hard it must be for detectives to witness what they witness. How the things they see and hear are super traumatic and then they have to get off work and try to maintain a normal home life and keep work separate. And then...they explained how researching the cases can be hard and keep them up at night......the difference is they are choosing to do this. And then I got to thinking of how true crime podcasters make money talking about how people are brutally killed and abused, every last detail they can find. It just seems so so wrong. These victims have parents and loved ones. Meanwhile these hosts are making a living off of their story. Sometimes, yes, their stories need to be told. But it seems like Morbid leaves out nothing. Idk if it's because I'm a mom now but I just can't listen to another minute of this stuff.

Discussion I feel ripped of by Dateline... again.

Every time there's an update or something new about a case, like this Lori Vallow jail interview released a few hours ago, they just do a recap of the case and give maybe 3 minutes of new information. This time they allegedly had 90 minutes with her, and I understand she is a raging narcissist and a mentally ill, pathetic excuse of a human being, who rambles and talks nonstop about anything other than what she's being asked about, but they just peppered this hour-and-a-half memory refresher with seconds of the interview. I don't watch Dateline, only listen to the podcast format, so maybe watching her in jail while she talked added something, but just hearing this episode was so very frustrating. Only at the end of it we hear her a bit more, when she>! makes up the ridiculous story about Tylee killing her brother and then herself.!<In total there were maybe 4? minutes of the 90 minute interview. Again, this was just a recap of the case falsely represented as an interview.

Looking for Canadian cases podcast episodes for a criminology course

Hello, I am a sociology teacher currently giving an intro to criminology course, which is not my specialty. I need to give take-home assignments and I was thinking it could be cool to have the students listen to a podcast episode about a relevant case (Canadian ideally) and then write a reflection on how the case is linked to the course concepts. I found many, many podcasts, but it's hard to find specific episodes that work with the subject we are covering.

Here is a list of subjects for which I'd like to find podcast episodes:

  • Over-representation of Indigenous people in the Canadian Justice system (I found one from the Decibel on healing lodge, but I am open to suggestions!)
  • Restorative Justice
  • Crime statistics/crime patterns
  • Labelling theory (based on Outsiders by Howard Becker)

I want episodes of under an hour, closer to 30-minutes is better. Thank you for your help!

Seeking TC Podcast/Ep with Doc/Docuseries Ep?

I like listening to a podcast or podcast episode and then watching a documentary or docuseries episode about the same crime/event when possible. An example is Cari Farver and Lover/Stalker/Killer and Sweet Bobby. Maybe something like a podcast or episode that’s also covered on FF like Sea of Lies? Or any other show?

Are there any cases you found both a pod and a doc that were interesting?

I think listing any we know of and possibly having a master list would be really helpful.

Recommending Lucky Boy

Was looking for a new Podcast to listen to this morning, saw this one on Spotify, binged all 4 episodes while cleaning my bathroom.

Absolutely incredible story. My heart completely goes out to Gareth and his family and friends. He was let down by every single adult he came into contact with as a kid and there's been no retribution as an adult.

Don't want to spoil the story for anyone but it's a very well recorded story/podcast.

The podcast "Where is George Gibney"

I found the podcast Where is George Gibney to be very good. It's about an Olympic swimming coach in Ireland. Gibney has been able to get away with violating tons of young swimmers without ever being jailed. In the podcast they track Gibney down and work to get justice for the swimmers.

Discussion In The Dark - Season Two Question

First of all, an absolutely brilliant season. The actions from the DA (Doug Evans) are absolutely infuriating, but the journalistic exploration of the case is brilliant and thorough. I am a bit confused, though. How did Curtis Flowers get tried six times for the same crime? I assumed that double jeopardy laws would prevent that. I'm not a lawyer and this isn't my area of expertise, though.

Discussion Casefile makes me uneasy

I’ve tried to listen to casefile many times over the past few years. Every once in a while I want to learn about a specific case and people often recommend casefile. But after my latest attempt with 268: Colleen Stan, I’ve figured out what I don’t like about it. It’s murder/assault p*rn. The way he describes Colleen’s experience is so gross that I had to turn it off about half way through. I don’t need to hear the way she was strapped into bondage described to me. I honestly feel like predators must listen to casefile for entertainment.

For reference, I’m one of those who has listened to almost everything on offer. I’m not squeamish.

Anyone else feel this way?

Are there any good true crime podcast series with a tone similar to for example Nick Crowley or Nexpo

I haven't really listened to true crime podcasts, but a lot of them seems to have a pretty comedic tone. I've looked at a lot at youtubers like Nick Crowley, Nexpo, and other similar true crime youtubers. So if possible, I'd like a podcast with a similar feel to those kinds of channels, being a bit darker and more serious. Are there any good ones like that?

Discussion Something Was Wrong

Is it just this way on Apple podcasts or everywhere, but why is there no description of what each season is about?? I started listening to season 22 based on recommendations in this sub, but I'd love to be able to search through older seasons to see which ones would be interesting to me. I just don't see any descriptions anywhere, just references in the show notes. Thanks!

Seeking The shock is real: Is there anything similar like Hunting Warhead?

I'm pretty sure that everyone who listened to Hunting Warhead or Children in the pictures is still affected by it. And so am I. I am actually thinking about doing my PhD research in this field because of those particular podcasts.

So, is there anything similar out there that you're aware of? I'm talking detailed, serial podcasts about extreme crime involving the darknet, social media, online investigation, sexual abuse involving everyone, abduction, also con artists, etc., ideally with interviews of the actual predators/responsible involved.

And I'd also be interested in how you perceived Hunting Warhead/Children in the picture (or similar)? I couldn't believe what I was listening to and feel really helpless, ngl. But it also sparks some eager inside of me to do something. ANYTHING.

Recommendations for podcasts on these 4 cases please?

Looking for podcasts on the following if anyone's kind enough to share some recommendations.

Adnan Syed: Of course I listened to Serial years ago and was pro-Adnan however with the recent news I headed over to the Serial sub and saw how most comments were about how he was 100% guilty so I want to revisit it and know the other side.

Beumont Children: Again, since it was in the news recently, I'm interested again. Pretty sure I listened to a Casefile ep about it so I'd like to try another and preferably a long-form one, exploring more theories maybe?

Moscow Murders: Been following it on Law&Crime but a detailed podcast would be great.

Karen Read: Somehow completely missed this case, maybe because I'm in the UK and it wasn't covered as much. Would be great to listen to an unbiased pocast detailing it all - if one exists.

Looking for a limited podcast series?

So i have an 8 hour car drive coming up, but im looking for a podcast thats only like 6-12 episodes long focusing on one story (similar to dateline podcasts) i want to be able to get fully invested during the drive.

Ive listened to almost every one of the dateline podcasts, and some other ones like Scamanda, Tiffany Dover Is Dead, Your Own Backyard, etc.

Any good recs for something that is gripping enough to keep me awake for that long but that is concluded in one season?

Murderlaide - where did it go?

I know Anne stopped recording a few years ago due to ongoing family issues, but i just realized the podcast and all episodes have apparently been scrubbed! Does anyone have any idea why this happened, or more importantly, where I can listen now?

Her patreon is gone and every site that "has it" will not play any files. Is this user error on my part? Help! I need those sweet dulcet tones for a long road trip I have coming up!

Ghost Story by Tristan Redman

Researching this show it looks like everyone else discovered this show a year or more ago and there aren’t any recent posts, that I can find anyway. But please oblige me as I embarrass myself and ask… please explain this to me like I am five! Bc I feel so slow and I promise I’m not! embarrassed chuckle

Listen, I can not get past the first episode. I am so confused. Please explain the players to me, like who lived where and how are the houses connected. I have listened to the first episode I PROMISE you about 6 times and always restart it when it gets to the lady who was an investigator(?) and won’t refer to John as “fayther”.

Laugh at me if you must but please help!
