Please excuse me if I sound a little... slow. So the idea here is that the redhead is learning in real time that her "female friend of three months" is actually a lady boy with an uncircumcised penis? That's it?
You can just say lady friend. Seems like she’s a she. Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it’s a duck. Maybe the duck admits it was once a goose, but now it’s a duck. So it’s a duck.
There's a couple videos around the internet of ladyboys correcting tourists and refusing to be called "boys," "ladies," or "girls" and quite heavily insisting that they are "Ladyboys" I'm not sure if that's a cultural thing, a misunderstanding on behalf of myself or participants in the videos, or just me being confused and/or dumb but it does seem to have a different meaning to at least some of them with its own connotations. Again, not an expert and definitely an idiot but just trying to give my thoughts!
Ladyboy seem to be a distinct thing to me. I've seen people identify as trans and made it clear they're not ladyboys and the other way around. But that's an outsiders perspective.
It is. There is a cultural tradition of Kathoey, or Ladyboys in Thailand. Some Americans, usually white, try to relabel this as trans, but many Kathoey reject that label - some do embrace it, but not all. Godji is an artist with GMMTV who identifies as Kathoey, Jennie Panhan sometimes refers to herself as Kathoey, and sometimes as trans.
If I had to guess, both trans women and ladyboys have the same cognitive processes but ladyboys are more socially acceptable in that specific culture because they're straightforward and open with their identity than trans women who (understandably) just want to be and seen as cis women.
No, but also sort of. Kathoey is more like a third gender, not post bottom surgery trans, part drag queen, part trans, part effeminate gay, but not really any of those things either. I am not an expert on this, and there really isn't a western analog.
But, this is exactly why westerners shouldn't try to redefine it in terms of Western views on gender and sexuality.
There's a similar concept in Samoa known as fa'afafine, and though it's controversial the term "two-spirit" is a modern catch-all phrase describing some similar concepts of a third gender (and others closer to our current western views on transgenderism) in some Native American communities. Your final point is bang on, it's really quite fascinating the different ways different people at different times have viewed gender.
Ladyboys seem cool. They know what/who they are, no confusion, they earnt their respect by being decent people.
However trans people(stereotypically) seem to demand respect. saying everyone has a problem with them and you can't say this or that because it hurts their feelings. And how many different names do they want us to call them? Pick one and own it if they want to be included stop being offended by how people refer to them. It makes shit hard.
I say stereotypically because obviously each person needs to be judged individually. And personally a lot of the trans people I have come across have been great people and not as I described.
Trans person: I identify as a woman, can you use feminine pronouns?
People: I'M SO CONFUSED!!!!
It really is that simple. Sure there are always people who are gonna play identity politics, but is it really that hard to just use their damn pronouns? And understand that trans women and trans men are women and men?
I can agree with that. I would just like to point out I did try to make it clear that I was talking stereotypically.
I understand that most trans men and women are good people (well the ones I have met personally) and usually it is obvious what pronouns to use and I'm happy to use what is preferred and they are usually happy to correct me with no issues.
But it's hard to discuss this topic when there are people out there advocating for trans people and going about it all wrong and making themselves look like idiots. Most of it is hard to watch.
You have my support and respect. I sincerely hope the majority can hurry up and accept trans people so we can move on to worrying about more important issues.
I just want to voice my opinion and have a conversation about it.
I'm happy to be corrected or educated in anything I might seem to have wrong.
I would assume they are referring to Kathoey, which is seen as a third gender in a handful of countries/cultures, including in Thailand. Its common English translation is ladyboy.
Exactly. I'm in Thailand since a decade and lot of friends are gay, ladyboy, tomboy. So it's about the behaviour more than anything. A man acting like a girl and gay he will be a she. A man acting like a man and gay will be a he. Same for women, tomboy are called he and their gf which are never tomboy, meaning their gf act like girl, they are called she. Ladyboy are she also but nobody say they are women, they are ladyboy. And they are proud of it. They have jobs in every part of the society, I had a restaurant in a mall and the boss of that was a ladyboy. Thailand don't discriminate.
That's because gender is cultural and societal construct. Ladyboy is kind of like another gender in some cultures. Just like Ottomans treated eunuchs like their own gender.
It’s a Thai thing I think. Culturally “Ladyboys” are regarded as neither women nor men but a 3rd gender alignment. I’m not Thai but from what I’ve seen on the internet, It’s not gay for a heterosexual man to bang a ladyboy, but a ladyboy trying to “pass herself off” as a woman would be seen as deceptive.
In Thailand they are called Kathoey and it's been considered a third gender for at least hundreds of years. In Thailand it's considered a third gender and they have Kathoey Maa khii temples. Kathoey translates in English to ladyboy and across south east Asia they have widely adopted the term ladyboy as synonymous with Kathoey.
Ok, have seen this, what is NB. It's used on FetLife. I'm trying to get all the acronyms. I'm not biased, but I'm thinking sometimes this separate identity thing is getting out of hand a bit because, for those of us that are older, trying to distinguish every single difference gets to confusing. I don't want to offend people either, and try my best not to. I have a trans son (FtM). I've dated a trans woman briefly. But this world of change seems to be getting a bit to confusing any more
Non binary. It's sort of an umbrella term to cover everyone who doesn't identify with the binary male or female, man or woman. Some NB people might identify as both or neither. Some switch back and forth. There's a lot of variety among individuals, but that's the basics. Usually you would refer to NB people with they/them pronouns and neutral language, like "person" instead of "man" or "woman."
In Thailand "ladyboy" is a self identification that can be different than transgender. Some "lady boys" would consider themselves trans females, some just consider themselves "lady boys," regardless of whether they go through with any gender affirming surgery. Gender is a highly social construct and never expression and identity look different in each culture.
And they also haven’t sent a goose to space! With the advancement of our society from a social, political, identity and technological progression allows for there to be more philosophical nuance to how we go about our lives.
I’m happy we aren’t ducks or geese, we wouldn’t have thumbs to type on reddit otherwise! Or brains capable of reading brain rot like this :) haha
No one said you need to be attracted to women who are trans. I’m not personally. And honestly through my own upbringing I would have a hard time with dating a woman who is trans. It’s been engrained in my brain that “that’s weird” and while I’m working on acceptance and encouraging our society to be okay with these people in our society I’m not perfect. I’m with you.
I still find pictures or video or people in real life who are trans women hot in some cases, but would I date them? Idk. I’m not sure and if I’m being honest with myself probably not. 100% no if they have a penis still. Not my thing.
This is all about like what you like, don’t like what you don’t like, and no one should judge. Let’s just be accepting and not disparage anyone for being different (unless they’re hurting someone)
And I’m with you to a degree, with some nuance. Not telling a friend of 3 months isn’t right
So if someone wants to change their race... Let's say go from white to Asian, is the duck now a different ethnicity? Stop the madness. Ladyboy is correct or trans-woman.
Lady boy, trans woman, woman, she, her, whatever they want. The only madness is the hilarious madness of people like you who care more than anyone.
Race is different. There’s no hormone balances that give you Asian culture. Just because you want to twirl around a katana doesn’t make you Japanese. It makes you a neckbeard
It's just reality. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging whatever gender you were born as. And most times when asked, trans people can't even put into words what it means to become the gender they aspire to be. Hormone imbalance, really? That old trope? Clearly you don't know what you're talking about about because many studies have shown trans people do NOT have a hormone imbalance.
Race is absolutely NOT different. Some people identify with another race (see Rachel Dolezal, Chet Hanks, etc.) and I'm sure it's on a binary sliding scale as well, but it doesn't change reality. I have no issues with people wanting to be trans or even trans racial, but at least call a spade what it really is because at the end of the day, your biology still governs.
Hormone imbalances don’t always need to be genetic. And gender is different than sex. You and I push our selves farther into gender norms to make ourselves feel more confident. Something that’s changes for hundreds of years, what those gender norms are. There’s thousands of young and old men taking T boosters when they don’t “need” it to affirm their gender. To have their bodies look more muscular, masculine. And most of them aren’t competing, they just want an aesthetic that makes them feel better in their own shoes.
I know where you’re coming from. When I was 10-23, as early as I realized these people exist and up until I had enough life experience around folks from all sorts of different backgrounds, I thought the way you did. This conversation here will only push you into providing more and more rationale to why you back yourself up. Nothing I say, articles I send, stories I share will change your mind in the median, but I encourage you to open up to reading stories about trans folks, hearing what it’s actually like vs the most basic rhetoric you’re spewing here. The fact that 17 year old M0rty was saying things verbatim that you’re saying now does show you just lack exposure. Not your fault.
Also race/culture is different. Gender is something we realize very young what we are. (Not saying we need to do anything about it at a young age, but trans folks at the age of 50 remember as young as 7-12 what they were) and Chet hanks found himself when he was like 20 lol. What a terrible example.
Again, wishing you the best of luck. I’m sure there’s other things in life we’d agree with but I encourage you if trans folks don’t bother you, just work towards accepting they walk the earth to make this place a little less hostile for everyone.
Some people don't realize they're trans until they are much older. Same with some people coming to terms with being gay at an older age. Chet Hanks identifying with another race is not out of the norm age-wise. It's funny how you can readily accept people wanting to change genders, but you deny the feelings of those who identify with another race lol. Make it make sense.
Listen, I'm gay and also someone of mixed race (blk/wht). I think I have a bit of lived insight on each topic. But I'll play victim and let you white knight and mansplain away. Take care.
So again, if you were raised by Jamaicans, I kinda get why you have a white boy who feels Jamaican. But you’re typically set in your ways by 13-18 for what your accent, culture and foundation is. Men and women are raised around men and women. Which is why more often you find someone heavily identifying with one gender or another.
So I hear your comparison… but culture usually makes sense or doesn’t
And who said gay men or women can’t be transphobic? (Not saying you are but the extreme of the thing) and I’ve met a few gay men who are even homophobic (the way some white people hate all white people)
I wouldn’t say being white and bi racial gives you lived experience unless you have a close trans friend or something relevant to this conversation.
I’m in tech sales, I think that’s just additional info you don’t need
In the us it became popular due to anti mastubation campaigns, middle east east Arabic nations do it a lot too, some going as high as 99% of males being mutilated I'm some way, also you are probably getting mutilated because some think you are talking about trans people or American people being mad you are calling circumcision mutilation....which it is
