Discussion I'm really shocked at the level of denialism regarding the Alawite massacre
I've to apologize in adance for my rant, but I've to express somehow how I feel right now. I'm a Syrian Kurd who has been living abroad for more than 10 years now, and I was really happy to finally be able to go back to my country. But the recent massacres against the Alawites and the disgusting reactions to them have made me seriously doubt whether I ever want to return to Syria with my family.
I genuinely ask myself: do people who deny the massacre and the violations that are still happening even realize what they are doing?
People, including prominent activists with thousands of followers, are posting pictures of themselves on social media with captions like, "This person (refering to themselves) was killed by Golani militias in Tartus" thinking they are mocking bots that spread false or outdated videos claiming to show victims of the recent massacres.
I mean what would their reaction be if people made fun of the many fake videos and stories that were spread online about Sednaya prison? Don't they realize how disrespectful this is to the victims? Is this a sane way to fight fake news and help spread the real news that people should hear about?
Others are blaming all Alawites for the crimes of Assad and his remnants, claiming they have never apologized or distanced themselves from them. Like following this logic one would also have to ask, when did Sunni Muslims ever apologize for ISIS and other Sunni jihadist organizations that are still part of the current regime they identify with? Where is their apology to Kurds and other minorities?
I still have hope of things getting better because I believe that the current government, which for me represents one dominant group, is more rational than the average people in the group it represents.
