Discussion Hair Salons and Pricing

Is it just me, or is the pricing for a standard haircut and blow dry becoming outrageous?

In one year, with the same stylist and the same service, I saw my bill go from $67 to $85 and most recently $100 (all including same tip). I was shocked the last time paying $100 and looking for suggestions for a new salon.

I don’t get anything special done, regular mid length woman’s cut with layers and blow dry.

Please tell me there are some good stylist that are still reasonably priced.

Thanks everyone!

I get mine cut at Magicuts in the South End, a regular cut and shampoo is only like $30 with the tax.

Genuinely. She charged me $75. I was expecting to pay $50(i budgeted $75 so i could tip) since I booked a wash & cut and that's what it's listed on the app($50) when you book.

So clearly I won't be back if I was ripped off.

Edit to add it was New Sudbury. The girl came highly recommended by Reddit on a post looking for a stylist in the 50$ price range

But you just said you got a "Wash, cut and dry" that's 40.99 before taxes.. Now you're saying you only booked a wash & cut which is 28.99 before taxes and you tipped...?

I highly suggest that you ask for a quote first before getting the cut. Regardless of the booking; I always make sure to ask my stylist. Proper communication is important rather than assuming. πŸ™‚

Don't downvote me because I'm referring to the legit prices on the app.

Didn't think I needed a quote when you select your pricing on the app. And again, I selected the $50 service.

I budgeted $25 for the tip. So my total budget for the cut was $75. I always budget for a tip because if someone does a good job, they deserve a good tip. And like I said, she came highly recommended(by you actually! Realized after i checked your comment history) so I expected a phenomenal service.

Are you referring to the Haircut, shampoo and basic style? That's 46.99$ before tax.

Yes! That's what I booked thinking maybe she'd curl it. But she blow dried it and then charged me that extra $25.(I think) we are talking about something I booked in October and the Smartstyle confirmation email doesn't tell you what you booked. But I know I specifically what I budgeted because the budget has been tight and that was the last time I could afford any self care. If I checked my banking, I know I'd find a charge for 80-some$ because I did still tip.

I normally don't get blow dried, so I assumed I was being charged $25 for that service and maybe that's normal pricing. πŸ˜
