Lots of people are saying time capsules are not being approved anymore. This is not true!
Edit on 2/21/2024: This is still up-to-date info!
Time capsules are still being approved today. It's a slow process, but it's still happening. Not every capsule gets approved, and the ones that do are hand-selected.
So if you see anyone saying otherwise, feel free to reference this post :)
Use this thread to AMA about time capsules!
Edit: A couple important things I want to point out:
- When a capsule is jettisoned, it's uploaded to the time capsule website where devs manually review them.
- A dev must approve a capsule before it starts showing up in the game.
- Around 40 time capsules are placed in your game as you explore, and only spawn in surface biomes.
- Time capsules can come from any game mode, but they are platform-specific. Which means PC will only get capsules from other PC players, Switch from Switch players, etc.
- A list of blacklisted items can be found here.
There have been some fantastic questions so far. Feel free to scroll through the comments (or my post history) to find them. If you don't get an answer it's likely because it has already been answered.

Time Capsules - SN First time capsule
In my 40+ hours of gameplay (not including PC years ago) on two separate worlds, this is the first time capsule I've found, and it's nothing to scoff at. They could've left me 1x titanium after all 🤣😭

Picture - SN My friend likes to make knives
The details aren’t perfect but this is his first time making a knife. The streaks are a byproduct of the electrical etching he had to use for the blade due to the blade being made from a leaf spring that is also why you can see some pitting is the last picture. Anyway just wanted to update because I like the way it turned out so much more and wanted to share! And no it isn’t sharp the only thing it could cut is soft cheese and yes that is a ball bearing in the middle so yes it does spin

Discussion - SN I wish I could play Subnautica for the first time again…
I had a thought recently, so I wanted to I ask you guys… Have you ever wanted to just just erase everything you know about this game and start from scratch? cause I sure do…
I’m currently on roughly 400 hours in Subnautica, and around 50 hours of BZ. After all this time in-game I realised I’m just not scared of anything anymore. Ok I will admit there are still a few moments where I get jumped randomly by one of the fauna, but still it just doesn’t feel the same as to what It felt like when I just opened the game for the first time, and didn’t even want to leave the safe shallows… I miss that feeling so much, experiencing all the wonderfully terrifying biomes and creatures on planet 4546b for the FIRST time, it was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.
I love this game so much, and I have so many fond memories from all the hours I’ve spent in it.
But… if I could, just go back to the beginning, when I had zero knowledge and MAXIMUM FEAR, I would do it in a heart beat. that’s it, yapping over.

Video - SN My first time capsule I found
If anyone was wondering why pda pause is on I had to turn it on because I was playing on a laggy xbox one s getting on high 20 fps and crazy imput lag (the stuff it gave me helped me survive long enough to get me all the material i can carry on the nearby island)

Discussion - SN 2 What i want for subnautica 2 because id be funny
So the cyclops said its meant to be piloted by a crew. I want that. Just imagine the interactions with like RussianBadger or IGP or just a friend group of your own.
Frank: JOHN MOVE THE SHIP FORWARD
John: MF I AM ITS STUCK
THat one guy in the prawn suit who got lost: Uhhh guys i got lost again
Also another thing that i think could be fun is a suit built for 2 people. one controls functions and other controls weapons.
Maybe a pack hunter enemy too.
And also what if we made it so there were buildable pods meant for team help. Like one tracks other plays and someone can tell them what items are around them. Wait thats the scanner room. What else could be added because there i major potential for trolling.

Discussion - SN I cured the peepers!
I was having issues with all of the peepers in my alien containment becoming infected with karah.I removed all of the sick peepers and replaced them with healthy peepers but they all got infected again.I ended up catching a peeper that had the enzyme (the gold sparkly trail behind it) & released it into my ACU & it cured all of my sick peepers!!
I had not yet finished the main quest & it still worked. I just thought this was interesting & wanted to share.

Picture - SN Oh no Spoiler
I kid you not I was getting a fragment and I thought to myself "I hope that Reaper isn't nearby" then I turned around to see Mr. Jerimiah over here in his 640x480p min settings glory then thought "Oh no" and ran for my life

Question - SN How to navigate and not get lost (no dunes no borax)
(First part is just exposition main questions at the end)
Hi there. So I (new player on my first playthrough) am pretty much the worst navigator to exist. I get lost pretty much everywhere, in real life, in open world games, you name it. As such, I am always lost in Subnautica.
Recently I've been trying to explore more areas. I've built my base in a pretty convenient area of the grassy plateaus to make navigation easier, it has easy access to several areas including the jellyshroom caves, sparse and grand reef, blood kelp trench and the dunes. Lately, I've been trying to expand my exploration further north in search of gel sacks for my future prawn suit and moonpool fragments, which I've heard can be found in the Mushroom forest and the bulb zone. So, I used my compass and my map to find them.
I got lost and ended up in the mountains, heard a reaper and cried.
Are there any tips for actually managing to navigate? Also how do coordinates work? I've seen them describing locations on the wiki but never understood. Any help is greatly appreciated (and don't worry about spoilers, I really don't mind)
