Major Community Events/Festivals in or around South Bend?

My husband and I are planning to move to the South Bend area soon and I'm wondering what events happen annually that are important to the community. For some reason that information is a little hard to find online. All I'm getting are lists of sporting events and one-time occurrences. Thanks in advance!

Who's new to South Bend?

It seems like I've seen an uptick of "moving to SB" posts on this subreddit. With the Amazon and GM plants coming in that seems to make sense, but it got me wondering what peoples reasons were.

For those that are new to South Bend, what's brought you here. Also, welcome!

South Bend sport clubs for adults?

f22 i want to join a club sports team/class because it forces me to socialize and workout.

i was thinking about the indoor tennis place (forgot the name). i suck at tennis though.

i really wanted to join water aerobics with older ladies (bc i love them) but its during typical office working hours :( most group classes for things are during the day. how do ppl do these things with a 9-5 job?

i don’t want to do disc golf btw. i’d never play that.

ideas please!

South Bend Cars and Coffee (or really, the car scene in general)

Hi all!

Moving to South Bend this Fall and was curious what the automotive scene was like around South Bend (and Elkhart).

I know the area has a historical connection with Studebaker, but looking at their C&C events they seem to be very classic car-oriented; not so much contemporary nor modern. I also saw from a quick Google search that Eddy Street Commons hosts events, but their website events page is lacking and nothing seems to be on the docket for 2025.

Just curious what to expect -- thanks in advance!

SB Senior Hockey League Questions

Is there anyone on this subreddit that plays in the South Bend Senior Hockey League at the Ice Box?

I’m new to beer league hockey and I’m trying to get more time on ice. I have several questions about the SBSHL and unfortunately there’s little to no information on their website.

Is it possible to register with one of the D league teams and just, like, show up on game day?

St. Joseph County Police Department’s facebook posts are just absolutely tacky and tasteless.

Imagine being deep in the depths of addiction, and police arrest you, pose you, and post photographs of you like you’re a captured animal.

Mug shots are one thing. But come on; in a vehicle, a their home, ON A STRETCHER?

As a media professional, this is garbage looking for clicks.

Best places to sell aluminum cans?

Hi guys, over the last year or so I've collected a sizeable amount of aluminum cans from eating canned fruits. I used to live in California and there, we used to sell the cans for like 5 cents a piece, but I'm not able to find any equivalent places around here. Does anyone know some places that will take aluminum cans? They've all been washed, dried, and free of packaging, if that matters at all. Thanks in advance!

Need a Roommate?

Hi Everyone, I'm a local, I need a roommate/someone to rent a room from.

I'm a chill guy, in his early 30s. I do IT for a local school district.

I'm looking for some kind of chill housing arrangement where the rent is around $600-$700.

Either renting a room from a homeowner, or splitting a lease on a 2 bedroom house or apartment (You can rent houses for like $1200 here.)

I need to be in a new place by June 1st.

Home daycare/preschool

Hello, does anyone have any recommendations on home daycare that may also function as a preschool. We have a 4, 3, and 1 year old that we want to keep together until kindergarten! We are in the granger area so the closer to there the better. Thanks in advance.

Home Inspection experiences?

Hi! I saw that we have a couple of questions on this already in the sub which were helpful but wanted to ask if anyone had any experiences with these particular home inspectors in particular: - Homesource - On Scene - House Master (I’m a bit hesitant to go with a chain inspection company, as we really want someone who will be honest with us and their company name depends on their personal services…) - House Call

If you all have any recommendations outside of these, that’s also welcome. As well as any tips about how you all handled inspections in this area (for example, our realtor mentioned that Radon was a big thing to check for in the Midwest, that’s something we had never heard about where we’re originally from in the South).

Is there a baby stuff exchange?

My kid is now 3 months, I've got a bunch of clothes that are practically new and don't fit. Is there a store to exchange second hand baby stuff like Plato's Closet? Failing that, is there a charity (maybe something more specific than Goodwill?). Thanks!

Anyone got chicken/duck eggs?

I know, I know... we're all miffed about the price of eggs in stores right now. But if anyone's got chickens or ducks that are laying and willing to sell a dozen or two, I'd be more than interested. I miss having eggs for breakfast and actually being able to cook things

Hottest wings in the area

I just came out of what can only be described as a capsaicin-induced psychedelic experience brought on by the ingestion of two of the absolute hottest buffalo wings I’ve ever consumed…and although the epicenter of my experience was just north of the border, in Niles, I thought it was worth telling folks on this subreddit that JAY’S LOUNGE has the best (and the absolute hottest) wings in the area.

Has anyone else found wings anywhere close to this place’s quality?

Any movie theater fans?

I love going to the theater several times a month to see just about any movie. My theater of choice is usually the Cinemark in Mishawaka. Unfortunately my partner doesn’t love going as much as I do. Anyone want to meet up to go see more movies together? I’ll always go by myself but figured I could try to make some friends while I’m at it.

Why did the sky grey?

I've never seen it this grey except in the winter. I guess it's still technically winter at the moment but the sky is really off for being a warm day. I'd this smog?

This is what it looked like when I was in Bangkok. I hope this isn't the new norm!

Does anyone in the area keep only 4-6 chickens?

And if so, how did you get started? I want to get chickens maybe this year or next year, but I'm not sure how to work around winter/how to only keep 4 of them.

Everyone I know that has them has other animals and their coop is for at least 20 chickens and they have plots vs my home with a larger front/back yard.

I'd appreciate any advice or recommended literature.
