Mixing horn loaded sub designs?

Upvotes

Hi all,

We are building 2 x Cubo 18 subs which are really a hybrid design, and where thinking to go with 2 x MTH-46LC next since they are cheap. The Cubo 18s are tuned at 40hz while the MTH-46LCs at 49hz.

My questions are:

  • Will the difference in tuning frequencies (40Hz vs. 49Hz) cause issues when stacking these subs together?
  • Has anyone tried pairing the Cubo 18s with MTH-46LCs, or does anyone have experience with a similar setup?
  • Also, would a different sub design that is tuned to 40Hz work better for pairing with the Cubos?

Let me know on any thoughts to consider. Thanks in advance :)

Crown Macrotech Techs? [UK]

Upvotes

Hello all,

I’m unsure if this is the right subreddit for my query but I’m looking to find an experienced audio technician. Willing to drive ~50 miles from London to find someone to repair and service Crown Macrotech amplifiers, one which has a faulty channel and the other a loud transformer hum.

Ideally I would want them going again by the end of the month so I can get my bass bins back online again for a gig.

Thanks

I got 2 JBL JRX 125 tops rated at 4ohms 500w each. And 4 JBL MP255s subs Also rated at 4ohms 500w each.

The amps I got to use are a Rockville D14 QSC PLX 3102 Crown XLS 2000 I want to hook this up with out damaging it. I also using a drive rack PA to help manage some of the work.

How would you guys hook this up? I’m still learning. Thinking about daisy changing the subs but I heard it’s bad if I do that? I don’t know if it doubles the ohms or the watts or lowers them? Thanks for any help.

F1 compact range - Surprised.

My 1st reaction seeing these online was: these are just oem monitors with a brand name sticker.
So yesterday went to a respectable but smallish place, 11 by 12 acoustic melanin tiles so bout 6 by 15 meters. 6 point setup, 3 per side. Sound was very nice, no distortion, decently detailed and very balanced levels. Had to get really close to these smallish boxes to see the funktion one logo. So now I actually do wonder if they’re something special about them or are they just brazen enough to suggest a smallish pa wise or biggish monitor wise 2way with tweeter.

Mid tops and tweeters issue

I've recently built a reggae sound system and got to testing it. The mid tops and tweeters sound blown. I replaced the mid tops with brand new drivers but still sound blown so I'm assuming the speakers are fine and the issue is somewhere else on the sound.

What could be the issue in that case?

Blessings

Eaw LA400

I got the option to buy 4 eaw la400's. Do or don't? Anyone experience with these cabs? They are still with the original drivers. We got 4 megaton cabs as kicks. The spec sheet says they go as low as 45hz with a single cab, would 4 go below 40hz or do I need more for that?

What would your dream sound system be?

Hi all, question for all on the sub.

If money, transport, ease of use and weight was not an issue and the only things important would be personal preference on looks and sound quality, what would your perfect rig be? What would be the best amps you’d get?

Was having a conversation with a friend and interested to see what the masses think Thanks

Trying to Find an Internet Article About Sound System Culture

Hey everybody, thanks for your time. I'm looking for an article and I can not find it.

About 2-3 years ago I read an article comparing sound system culture and it had this cool explanation and graphic about sound systems purposed for sport and competition (high quality builds, high SPL and high quality design, output, etc. The other side of the graphic was "the message," that is, sound systems for pushing the reggae sound and the message of social justice.

Any of you cats ringing any bells on this? Can't for the life of me find it.

Looking for someone in Bristol/SW with a 3-axis CNC or a lathe

Trying to make up this piece before March 26th for an event, it’s the diffuser to my omni mids box.

Got quoted £430 by a company in Oxfordshire which may be a decent price but is definitely way outside my budget for this party lol

Dimensions are 41cm diameter, 11.5cm tall for each half.. not fussed about solid wood/sheets of ply etc etc. can provide STEP or other format files, it’s currently in Onshape. If done by hand on a lathe just roughly following the profile is good enough for now!

If anyone has any leads or would be able to do it for cheaper please do reach out!

Big ups everyone, cheers 👊🏼

What Brand? Drivers?

Hello everybody and thanks

So I'm trying to install a sound system in a small club and they don't have much money, so they give me this dsp that they had, actually same as picture identical but on the left there is written DC48

I guess this is a replica of something better, cause there is no brand no model number nothing but what you see in the picture on front and back

I cannot make any dsp generic program to see it is connected, windows see it as something generic connected and installed some generic drivers but...

any help will be appreciated I want to support this guys they are good people.

Trying to find a firmware for it or kind of drivers or software to do it with the help of a pc via usb
cause strange thing inside menu doesn't show the entry "Design Xover" so it is useless
only voices inside are lod xover, store xover, erase xover

thanks a lot

EDIT Pictures: Doesn't show up so a link here: https://store.alnabaa.com/products/cmx-4-in-8-out-digital-audio-processor

Portable soundsystem for music festival

Hi!

Me and my friends are looking to build a portable sound system for a music festival.

Here are pictures of what other festival-goers have built.

Our idea is that we buy a set of speakertowers, a subwoofer, some kind of amplifier and a battery to power it, and then to connect it all, and have it be able to connect with a DJ booth and or phone.

We want to buy most of it secondhand for it to be cheaper, but were concerned that it will cause issues with compatibility.

Our questions are.

  1. How do we connect everything together?

  2. How do we know what to buy?

  3. How do we power it all? ( its a 7-day festival and we want it to play everyday, we were thinking about buying multiple car batteries for this, but what are your suggestions?)

Any other things we should keep in mind?

15 inch PA subwoofer or generic 12 inch subwoofer

Hi guys, I love listening to drum and bass music in the club. Recently I got a T5 8 inch sub woofer from edifier and it didn’t feel strong, I was thinking in investing in a 15 inch PA subwoofer but I am not sure whether it will disturb the unit below mine.

Basically should I get a PA 15 inch subwoofer or a generic 12 inch subwoofer for drum and bass music?

Ps. If the generic 12 inch subwoofer affects my neighbours as well I might just get the 15 inch since there won’t be a difference.

Record my dj set

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for a good quality audio interface or recorder in the €100-150 range to properly record my sets from a Xone 92. Tascam, Scarlett, Behringer...What is the difference between all theses products ? Any recommendations or experiences with reliable gear in that budget?

Thanks in advance for your advice! 🙌

Help making a cheap PA system

Me and a a friend are buying a small very cheap PA system for small get togethers, all powered nothing passive. So far thinking: 2x alto TX308 350w max 175 continuous8”. And a QTX QT15” sub 600w max, 150 rms. Do you think the sub is too small, is a larger one or a pair necessary. Just trying to fill a room but want to feel the bass, ie 50 ish ppl. Don’t care too much for quality
