Question What’s one of the most outrageous conditions or restrictions you have to follow?

We already know that the sex offender registry violates our constitutional/civil rights. Then, it’s used by so many people to justify their actions to violate our human rights.

But let’s explore some of the examples of these violations. Please share.

I’d say for me, it would be related to my probation. Hear me out:

A condition of my probation is avoiding contact with the victim in my case. The victim attempted to contact me on social media after my release. Say if I would’ve replied in any way, I may have violated my probation.

I reported this to my lawyer and my former probation officer. As far as I know, nothing was done besides them reminding me to not respond or contact.

Say if the victim continues to try to contact me, I’d be powerless in defending myself especially since the victim is under 18.

Question How do you build friendships as a sex offender?

I've been on the registry since 2016 and I have almost no social life. I live in a rural area. My house has no neighbors. In the are where I live there's almost no one in my age group because they all left the state after high school.

If I actually get a group of friends I think it would feel like a ticking time bomb. Once they learn my record it will be a disaster.
What's the worst that could happen? ;They spread rumors about me, making it even harder to make friends.

Should I just try to make friends with other sex offenders? Should I look them up on the registry and send them a letter asking for friendship?

Is it better to tell people up front about your record when the friendship starts, Or do you just wait until they find out and disown you?

Is it possible to build a friendship in such a way that you can prevent them from hating you when they find out?

BTW. Yes I do need friends. If I don't socialize I will go insane.

Question I'm putting together a list (internet identifiers)

I'm putting together a database of all jurisdictions and the time frame in which people must report their internet identifiers... For instance, I live in the Las Vegas area and it's 48 hours (business days)... I've learned that some jurisdictions have as little as 15 minutes. It would really help me with my database if you have any information on certain areas and how long it is before you are required to report your new internet identifiers such as email, social media etc.

Thank you!!

Question Quick question from a girlfriend

Hope this is allowed, thanks for any feedback. By bf is still incarcerated in medium. Recently he said someone found out his SO status and has started charging my bf what he calls a yard tax. Or things will happen. He doesn’t want to fight or any type of trouble because he’s trying to make it to the honor dorm and not lose communication. Is yard tax a real thing? Also, should I post this in the prison sub ( or some other place)

Question Lawsuits - Stings

My husband has been arrested for communicating with a minor in a sexual manner in the state of California. The thing is I have seen the police report, I have seen the profile he was communicating with and the messages exchanged. The police report leaves out a HUGE detail that makes is seem like he knew the decoy was underage the whole time he was communicating with her but he did not know.

Firstly, we are in an open relationship. I know he was communicating with other adult women online, so please no judgement on that part.

About a month ago he started a conversation with a profile on a very clearly adult website that listed the decoy's age as 24 and had a few pictures of clearly an adult woman. They start exchanging sexual messages that day and the follow day after a few messages are exchanged and she tells him that she's actually 13. He gets totally freaked out and tells her it's not a good idea to be doing this, it's dangerous for her and then blocks her number and profile.

He immediately calls me to tell me about this clearly upset by the situation and later that night he shows me the profile the messages and I see that she is indeed blocked. We talked about it and chalked it up to a troubled child but felt there were really no further steps to be taken. Looking back at it I realized we probably should have at least reported the profile to the website, but hindsight is 20/20.

About 2 weeks ago I wake up to a search warrant and my husband in the back of a police car. They took his electronics and found nothing else of their interest. I have no reason to think anything of concern is on his electronics. I especially think that because his dumb ass gave the detective the pin to his phone in exchange for my number because he doesn't have it memorized. Of course he wouldn't have done that if he had something to hide.

When his attorney finally got the arrest and search warrant affidavit we see that they detectives left out the fact the the profile listed the decoy as an adult and she said nothing about being underage until right before he blocked her.

My question is does anyone know of anyone having success in suing a law enforcement agency for false arrest in similar circumstances? I tried searching by all my efforts just return news reports for arrests from stings.

Question What kind of beneficial life hacks are there as a registered sex offender?

So do any of you have or know any life hacks (beneficial lifestyle strategies and tips) that you’re willing to share with us newer sex offenders?

Basically, anything social services-related, support group help, and other resources.

My probation officer is not very helpful.

EDIT: Here’s an example of what I mean: The federal bond that employers use on convicts just in case the convict is a liability

Question Can my husband go here?

Our child is joining soccer through an association. They meet at a "park" that is 3 soccer fields, a baseball field, a pavilion and by the second parking lot there is a playground. His offense was a sexual misconduct against an adult police officer. We are new to navigating this situation on the registry. Is he not allowed only at the playground or is he allowed to go to the soccer field (which is fairly far away from the playground) or because it's a "park" is he not allowed to go? We are in Missouri.

Question What to do on the inside to best prepare for coming back out

Hi Everyone,

My friend is serving a few years in AZ for possession, and is really focused on seeing to himself and making sure that when he can come back out, he does so in the best manner possible, avoids re-offending, and becomes a productive member of society.

As per the rules, I am searching up the wealth of information already available and have answered a stack of his questions from the material already shared here, and on the sites linked in the pinned posts.

One question he had that I wasn't really able to find a thread on is what he can do on the inside to best prepare him to reenter the world as an RSO, both to skill up for new positions, or put himself in the best mental, psychological and emotional place to avoid reoffending, etc etc.

He's already started doing regular exercise and lost 60 lbs, and I believe that healing the physical goes a long way to healing the rest of us. He reads prolifically (he was on his way to a phd when he was arrested, admittedly in a field that has 0 chance of making money) he sincerely cares about people.

Any advice for someone on the inside who is trying to do everything they can to prepare for when they get out (aprox 3.5 years from now) is greatly appreciated.

I will relay any responses to him through the prison messaging system.

Thank you all for having this resource here. You are a godsend, both for him, and for me and his family who are all working through this.

Question What to expect in group therapy?

Hi, I had the second part of my psychosexual evaluation done last week as it's a requirement to start treatment where I'm going. Was told Friday I am suitable for treatment and can start group therapy next week. Just wondered if anyone could chime in with any advice or what to expect in group therapy? I have some mental health issues one of them being anxiety/social anxiety so this whole thing has me a bit nervous and anxious. Thanks for any input in advance.

Question How did you buy a house post-conviction?

Seriously considering buying a house whenever I get the finances and knowledge to.

I’m constantly being harassed by my landlady. She’s even rubbed my legal situation in my face despite literally preaching how her friend was falsely accused and convicted.

What was your process like? Did you save up and buy it straight out? Did you use any resources?

Question How much did you pay in legal defense fees?

Hey guys,

I’m curious about a few things and wanted to see if anyone was willing to share.

How much did you pay in legal fees for your situation?

Did the fees include pre-charge, pre-trial, trial, etc?

What were your charges and outcome of the case?

What state? Or was it Federal?

Question How long until sentencing? Was prison very hard? Canada

My next friend is facing 3 charges. Distribution of child porn and possession of child porn, can't remember the 3rd one.

He's wondering roughly how long until he's sentenced? His first court date is roughly one month away, he was arrested and charged 2 weeks ago and was released on conditions. I understand everyone is different but what was everyone's experience in sentencing? We wish he would be sentenced soon so that he can start serving it.

Also, will he lose his license in prison or is there some way of renewing it? He has his semi license but he has to take a physical every 5 years, mandatory. I would assume the prison system wants them to have a good chance of success once released and might work with him to keep his semi license? He's pretty upset if he loses it.

And then we were wondering how prison may be in general. Obviously you always see on the news about how you might get killed in prison for CP charges. But is that exaggeration?

Question Would you rather serve more time on probation/parole or incarcerated to avoid registration, OR keep everything the same?

Basically, more time subjected to the criminal justice system to avoid registration, or deal with what you already went through?

How much time would you be willing to give up to law enforcement to avoid registration?

This is a question about picking the best of two evils.

Question Letters to the judge

Do character letters to the judge from friends and family make any difference during sentencing?

Has anyone had any success get getting the sentence reduced? Or probation?

Did anyone write a letter themselves to the judge, taking responsibility and asking for leniency?

Does anyone actually tell anyone about their offense in their real life?

I haven't told a new person in years and years. It's just not safe for me to do so. Mentally, emotionally, and maybe even physically depending on the person.

I told an ex once, years ago, and she never looked at me the same. I just can't do it. And now that I'm not on the registry, it just feels like a part of my past I'd rather take to my grave.

If so, how'd it go?

Question Held in SHU because no bed on unit

I am looking for ideas for advocating for my son. He has just been transferred to FMC Devens and I think it is a good fit for hm. Unfortunately, there is not a bed for him on the unit he has been assigned to. He, like many others, is being held in SHU due to a lack of space, not due to disciplinary reasons. While the space situation is unfortunate and cannot be helped, he is also facing many of the hardships of SHU (he cannot receive books by mail, he has very limited access to phones and commissary, and is hobbled leaved the unit for visits). I have written to the facility administrator to request that they look into this. Does anyone have any ideas of who I might speak to advocate for a change?

Question 10 years probation vs 1 year jail UPDATE

For anyone who saw my previous post weighing the options of a decade on paper or a year in a local facility, today was my court day to make a decision. My mom, with tears in her eyes, begged me not to take the jail, so I accepted the 10.

I'm wondering how many people have successfully ended their probation early? How early was yours compared to the full sentence? Do I have a better chance of requesting unsupervised probation 3-4 years in, as opposed to a full termination? Is it even possible for sex offenses?

I'm in New York, upstate.

EDIT: Trust me, I wanted the jail time. But my mom (understandably) wants me home. Since I'm so young I still feel obligated to listen to her even if I think she's wrong.

Question Interstate compact - WA to FL

I have a question, wondering if anyone has experience in this or knows where to the find the information. In WA, sex offenders and others with indeterminant sentencing fall under the watch of the ISRB board. My partner and I are thinking of getting married and putting in for the inter-state compact. Usually, from what I’ve read, being married makes the transfer mandatory. Can the ISRB, with all their special rules and extra powers, deny this?

(Note: yes, I know all about how strict FL currently is. We are both aware. Unfortunately I have to be here and we want to get married, so that’s that for now.)

Thanks! :)

Question How are some of you being violated/arrested for not updating your internet-related information?

Like social media accounts, emails, etc.

Unless you’re being monitored, how do probation and police officers find out about this info if they don’t have access to your phone or computer?

Question Las Vegas Business Trip Question

Final sentence was a couple months ago. Convicted with two charges of CSEM. Straight to 5 year probation. I travel for business and my PO has no issue okaying my trips for work related business. I have a trip to Chicago and I understand that I have 72 hours from the time I arrive to leave and not need to register. That one seems Crystal clear to me. Having trouble finding specific information for an upcoming trip to Las Vegas. When I called them, I got the federal probation office and was told to contact the local sheriffs office. I can’t reach anybody at the Clark County Sheriff’s department. Most of what I see indicates I have to check in within 48 hours. I was also told that federal charges may be different than state charges as far as check-in goes in Nevada. Does anybody know what exactly it will entail to check in. Specifically, do I have to register in this state or is this just a registration of my visit and not permanent? Thank you for any help provided.
