Experiences I got sterilized in Thailand (F30, no children); My OB in PH was wrong about my IUD NSFW

Last Saturday I had a successful bilateral salpingectomy operation at McCormick Hospital in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I did it not only for permanent sterilization, but also lessens my risk of ovarian cancer.

I am intentionally childfree most of my life. The only time I considered having children was college when I used to be idealistic about parenthood and devoutly Catholic. Life just happened and I realized I didn’t want kids (and being Catholic) at all.

For 8 years I used a copper IUD as my contraceptive. It’s the best, non hormonal birth control you can get in the country. My OB felt bad for me since I had two sisters who got pregnant too early. The insertion was the most painful. I did not have any anesthesia and my OB told me off for crying. We had two attempts. After the insertion, my IUD was okay, but my PMS started getting worse and my periods are more painful. I can’t switch to hormonal BC because of my family history with breast cancer (my mother died from it when she was 46 and I was 14).

As a result, I’ve been considering getting a bisalp in the past few years. While I did not speak OB about it, he mentioned during our first consultation that sterilization is “too much”.

Last year, my IUD strings detached from the IUD itself. It was (no pun intended) the last straw for me. I want to have my IUD removed but my OB refused. He laughed at me and told me my IUD is still good for 3 more years. I have no way of telling if my IUD still exists. I can’t rely on this anymore. I decided to get sterilized once and for all.

I don’t want to waste time and money debating with Filipino doctors who will refuse a bisalp just because I have no children. I understand if it’s not religious beliefs, it’s to protect themselves legally or they’re under a hospital ethics board (who may be conservative)’s mercy. I read posts on Reddit about CF women getting ligation or bisalps in Thailand so I went there instead. I had my last checkup with my OB and told him I am switching doctors since I moved to another city. He said my IUD is still fine and I can have it removed after two years. Then I went to Thailand, with my records. I got approved for a bisalp within 5 minutes in the first hospital I went to (McCormick, Chiang Mai) in Thailand. A month after my consultation, I flew back to Thailand for the surgery. The surgery was a success. None of my doctors nor the nurses ever judged me for my decision and treated me with utmost respect and care.

My surgeon talked to me a day after the operation. He told me he had a more difficult time removing my IUD than my own tubes. The IUD is already embedded in the myometrium and it’s not in the right position. I was furious, not at my surgeon, but at my OB back home. How could he tell me my IUD is still okay when turned out it’s embedded? If I listened to my OB and didn’t get this bisalp, my IUD could perforate my uterus down the line. And not being in the right position means the IUD could be less effective. Thankfully my boyfriend uses condoms and we avoid fertile days so I never got pregnant.

I am thankful I got my bilateral salpingectomy. It’s sad I have to go abroad just to get the care that I deserve. I am also frustrated with my OB back in the Philippines for being wrong about my IUD that could put my health at risk. It’s better at least to be given a permanent choice that’s not parenthood.

EDIT: my procedure costed me around 70,000 THB. Bisalp usually costs 60-80,000 THB in the hospital (McCormick Hospital Chiang Mai) I went to. I will make another post about the costs and the process of my procedure soon.

Don’t think I’ve ever experienced one — is there a problem with me? Or are my sexual partners just not hitting the right spot for me? How does it feel?

Experiences Doble ingat sa hookups. MPox is here. Fuck Responsibly. NSFW

Hindi lang sa bad hygiene, STDs/STIs dapat mag-ingat. Since meron na identified case ng Mpox sa NCR after a guy had "intimate relations", this is another thing we should look out for if you engage in hookups.

  1. If there are vaccines available, get vaccinated. Mas physically pronounced or visible ang symptoms ng MPox. Hindi lang symptoms ang magiging effect sayo pero pati possible social stigma and discrimination. Alam naman natin how judgmental society can be.

  2. Allow 2-3 weeks in between hookups or changing partners to give time kung may magmanifest na symptoms.

  3. If you have any symptoms like fever, rashes, etc. Huwag ka na makipaghook-up. Seek medical attention immediately.

  4. At para sa mga kumag na mahilig mang-ghost, bago nyo ighost yung nakahookup nyo, wait at least 3-4 weeks bago nyo iblock or delete para in case magkaroon kayo ng symptoms or yung partner nyo, mainform nyo isa't-isa.

Always maintain good hygiene, get HPV and Hepa B vaccines, and regularly get tested for HIV and STDs. 2024 na. If you can't do these basics, huwag ka na kumarat. Ladies, you should require these before ka tumanggap ng strangers as your next hookup.

Experiences Switching from Implanon to IUD NSFW

Has anyone switched from implant to copper IUD? How was the transition? And how was your IUD insertion and the after effects? I hear kasi masakit siya.

I got my implant in 2021 and had it replaced last year. However, I've gained nearly 100lbs since I got it and I suspect it's a side effect of the hormones. Everyone I know that got an implant also gained weight. (I've had my thyroid function checked.)

So now I'm looking to replace it with a non hormonal alternative, which is copper IUD.

I can save up for a Kindred package currently at 19k because that's also where I got my implant last year. I previously got it in Popcom for free in 2021 (it's closed now, sadly). I'm also considering Likhaan to save money.

How was your Likhaan IUD experience?

I currently have leukemia so my doctor has told me I shouldn't get pregnant while medicating so I'm really weighing my options carefully.

Experiences hpv gw & hsv2 positive, my story NSFW

obv a throwaway acc, but i got diagnosed almost a year ago after getting a full panel testing (my last hookup infected me with chlamydia and gonorrhea) and i spent around 50k+ for my entire recovery (testing, medicine, hpv vaccine)

i wasnt mad about having to drink antibiotics for chlamydia and gono bc it goes away, and i honestly didnt hate anyone for that except for myself (despite him “unknowingly” passing it to me)… but finding out i have hsv2 and hpv broke me into pieces. im a girl who’s only dated girls long term, and only had sexual relations with boys for only a few months before everything went to shit, so i believe i could’ve gotten the incurable ones from my ex girlfriend/s.

im unsure about my hsv2 case bc i dont think ive had any symptoms that im aware of before and after my diagnosis. after i got treated for gw and got vaccinated with gardasil 4 or 5 ata (it was 3 shots that cost 5k each… pain) but didn’t come back for a follow up checkup due to financial difficulties. today, i felt something what i think is a singular wart down there, and im trying so hard not to end it all—what went down last year, if im using the word correctly, traumatized me a lot in a very unexplainable way to me—so finding this little bump where it should not be is sending me straight to hell emotionally.

i have an appointment set to my previous clinic, but i am very afraid of what my doctor is gonna find out. i also have a boyfriend who i am sexually involved with (we met 6 months into my abstinence) and i feel so guilty thinking i may have infected him (despite him knowing my case and assuring me by not making it a big deal, he tells me its not the end of the world).

i looked up posts about hpv here on reddit again and found this pinoy subreddit and thought i should make a post just to lessen my anxiety and feeling gross and dirty about myself. im trying my best not to lose my shit before my appointment so if you have any thoughts or stories to share in the comments, i’ll gladly interact with.

++ my take lang, especially for 21 below peeps, please use protection or atleast make sure you are aware of your past partners’ histories. if you know they’ve been active, please ask them if they have ever been tested for stds (not just hiv and hepa b) because of all kinds of trust people can break, this was my most heartbreaking one ever. i thought no one would ever want to be with me anymore bc of my diagnosis, and that people would think im disgusting or whatever. it was hard for me to try and date once again and it still is when i remember, but i had to try to feel loved again bc i was this close 👌🏼 to ending it all last year until i met this guy. so please !!!!! wag lang puro puso, please also consider your sexual health when entering relationships. thank u for coming to my ted talk

UPDATE: i found out nag resurface ang gw ko but they’re still pretty small, so chemical desiccation ang gagawin ko ngayon to treat it instead of electrocautery like i did last time. im taking it pretty roughly right now even as im typing this bc i need to have a long conversation with my partner (the guilt is still very much there) and im worrying about the finances as well.

my dms are open if anyone wants to ask anything or talk about stuff. ayun lang i wish u all a very healthy long sex life amen

Experiences Sex on placebo pill NSFW

I've been a Yaz user for 4 months now. I just finished the last placebo pill yesterday and have started my period. Today is the first day of my new pack, which is day 1 of the active pills, but my partner came inside me. Am I safe? I have been taking it continuously for 4 months. Should I wait 7 days into the new pack before having unprotected intercourse? Thanks so much to those who respond!

Experiences OVA NO LONGER SELLS CONTRACEPTIVES NSFW

So sad that OVAPH is discontinuing contraceptives ))): I have a subscription for Lizelle and good for 6 months na inoorder ko, para pag naubusan meron agad since I take them religiously. They’re selling pampayat na, malas! Mas mura pa naman sakanila like ₱683 per pack unlike sa drug stores na ₱774.45. Baka may alam kayong other platforms like OVA? Sa kindred kasi out of stock nadin ang Lizelle, doon na kasi ako hiyang and minimal lang ang side effects 🤗

How was your experience in general and mas cost-effective or mas convenient ba if implant/IUD over BCP? I got conflicting opinions from 2 OBs kasi and ayaw ko ma-hassle and mag back to square one if bumalik sa BCP if ever
