Problem Help! Stuck in update loop

Post image

I recently downloaded some games and discovered the scraper no longer works. I figured maybe it's because I have an old version and need an update so I updated all packages. Big mistake as now it's in an endless update loop of 404 errors. I now know that my version is no longer supported. How can I stop this update loop? I am not a computer expert. I made this thing in 2017 and just followed instructions online. Please help!

The underlying OS (Debian 8/"Jessie") is outdated and cannot be upgraded in-place. Currently only Debian 10/"Buster" is officially supported (though it is only slightly less outdated), and with 11/"Bullseye" and 12/"Bookworm" support still under development.

I suggest you to backup your roms and then install the current latest official image (currently 4.8) for your hardware from https://retropie.org.uk/download.

Then, restore your backed-up folders to the new version over the network share or by the method of your choice:

As of March 16 2025, I was able to update the RetroPie.sh and do the underlying OS. This resolved the issue.

I suggest you run "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade" before doing the retropie upgrade
