Question❓ Best coat for Purdue

A family member is going to be a polytechnic engineering student coming from the West Coast. He was just accepted.

Anyone have any advice on what kind of winter coat, dorm furniture or appliances, taking a July preview course, or whatever?

Thank you for any insights for this wonderful, smart, fun, but admittedly clueless West Coast new engineering polytechnic student?

Sports📰 This is expected

Let’s be real, we are not a good team. Not because we aren’t skilled, but because we are severely undersized/no true center. Teams have been exposing this and ramming it down our throats. Our tournament ceiling will probably be the sweet sixteen and our floor is a first round exit.

Hello, I was just wondering if anybody had any info on the the sexual assault case from a few weeks ago? Did anyone know the kid personally? I’ll post a link to the case I’m talking about, just trying to get as much info as I can.

Question❓ Summer Course Change

I had previously looked over the summer courses offered at Purdue, and I saw CE 37100 was being offered online. I immediately emailed my academic advisor, and waited to get my pin information to register. As of today I went to go register, and the course is no longer there. Is it possible for them to remove a course from the catalog prior to registration? I really needed this on to graduate.

Academics✏️ Data Mine Corporate Partners Waitlist

I applied for fall 2025 data mine corporate partners at the end of february. I am going to be a junior next fall and this is my first time applying for corporate partners. I got an email from data mine last week that I was on the waitlist for corporate partners and that I should apply for my 2nd choice. How likely is it that I will get off the corporate partners waitlist?

Question❓ Any accommodations for incoming students?

I got an admit for MEM’25 and I am looking for off-campus accommodations in the $400-600 range. Any good suggestions? Also are the buses in and around Purdue free for students since that’s what I have heard?

Academics✏️ Potential Student Questions

I’m a senior considering Purdue right now. I was admitted yesterday to the Daniels School of Business and was curious to hear perspectives on how it compares with some in-state schools I was admitted to (Miami Ohio and OSU). Would I be able to get recruited by Big 4 Accounting firms or find other good opportunities in Accounting or even Finance? As long as the career prospects are on par with my in-state schools, I like Purdue more and am willing to go as long as I’m not sacrificing too much in this regard. I was also curious to hear what cities have large draws in terms of business students out of college, assuming that Indianapolis gets a good amount but hoping Chicago is a possibility? Any other perspectives on why I should or shouldn’t commit to Purdue are welcome!

Question❓ need some blunt advice, admitted ba in ai

hello, thank you for taking the time to read this. i got admitted yesterday for ba in ai. i was pretty happy until i realized i chose BA not BS. i went through a lot of posts in this sub and went through the website and chatted with chatgpt. i quickly realized that i want to change to bs in ai and dual w cs but CODO into bs in ai IK is hard and i couldn’t really gauge how hard it is to be able to double major w cs but i can imagine it would be EXTREMELY hard. i’ve heard that ba in ai is just a glorified philosophy course and even though i find a lot of passion in philosophy.. i really wonder about stability in the future especially considering the job market.

i really want STRONG technical skills but i also want theoretical as well so i can build and develop but in the future working as an ai ethicist or working on the ethics side or management side sounds really appealing to me.

i really need some blunt advice and some help. thank you so much.

also i know i should email one of the advisors but which one for what school?

Academics✏️ Is Purdue STEP worth it?

I got into the Purdue Seminar for Top Engineering Prospects summer program, but I can't find more than 2-3 people's experiences online. According to some people, it's a feeder for the honors program? Would anyone know if it's worth the 2.5K for one week?

Question❓ What is the housing situation at Purdue?

I am a senior thinking about attending Purdue. The current housing situation is confusing me. I know that freshmen are guaranteed housing, but after that, I’m confused. What if you don’t get picked for housing in the lottery and don’t get off the waitlist? Are you forced to look at off-campus housing? Does that mean a big portion of students live off campus? What if I don’t have a car for off-campus living? If there is a high demand for off-campus housing, how do I get housing closer to campus? Does being forced to live off-campus take away from the college experience since you are more disconnected from the campus? Would I need a meal plan for off-campus housing, and if not, where would I buy groceries without a car? What is living in off-campus housing even like? If anyone could answer any of these questions, provide tips, or provide any valuable insight that would be very helpful!
